Has anyone ever took their dirtbike out to go camping?

I'm restoring a 1990 Yamaha YZ250 and want to take it /out/

Any tips? As far as the bike should I be getting any certain modifications for a prolonged stay outdoors?

Pack light, think about a bigger fuel tank, know how to fix your machine in the field. advrider.com for more.

I don't know much about the dirt bike part so hopefully Mule sees your thread and posts.

What advice I can give you is try out your gear before you ride, test ride with what you plan to bring (to get a feel for the change in handling) and do a short test camp close to home.

Also ATGATT

Solid advice, thanks.

This is my first real project, so I'm going to dismantle the entire bike and rebuild everything. Really excited. Hopefully at the end I'll know the in and outs of the entire things.

For a first trip, do you think I should bring my truck as a tag along or would just the bikes be acceptable?

I want to fly over the world and look down upon its vastness and beauty for years and years and years until my soul has meshed with it

Hey, /out/
I'm going on a camping trip soon, and I would like to try some bushcrafting. Do you guys have any cool ideas of things to make with a knife, hatchet, and supplies gathered from the forest?

>Also general bushcraft thread

A basket A fire A Bushcraft is for faggots sign. For real I fucking hate that word. Calling it outdoor activity or something.
>>
>>782861
Sorry if I used the wrong word, but I'm just looking for cool things to make with simple tools in the woods. No need to be a dick about it.
>>
Unless you wanna commit and build a cabin in the woods using hand tools dick proenneke style, I wouldn't bother.

Just get drunk and make a big bonfire. Doing bushcraft on a camping trip is meaningless, bushcraft isn't a hobby - it's a necessity to wilderness survival, and it's not fun.

Where are you from?
Hungary doesn't have really have big mountains and such, but there are a few pretty national parks. In what kind of /out/ related actions are you interested in? Mayhaps I can give you a few tips.
>>
>>782550
utter shit imo
first of all the hungarian wilderness is nonexistent
second hungarians hate foreigners and pretty much anyone not sitting in a car is third class citizen (second class if you drive a truck) and free game for bully
third it's pretty much impossible to do anything while out aside walking you are not allowed to make fire or camp except for concrete laid camping sites.
you are not even allowed to be off of marked paths in any national parks and pretty much all other woods are private land.
asshole...

>first of all the hungarian wilderness is nonexistent
Not true mate, though most of the 'wild' part is controlled by mational parks, you are entirely free to wander them. In the northern parts of the country there are vast territories without any human population.
>hungarians hate foreigners
How is this? I don't even think any European country hates foreigners....

3 MB,
Well this weekend I had plans to camp one night with friends, they all backed out.

I've been backpacking for a few years now, but somehow always end up with several people in our overnight trips.

Just going solo this weekend. Not really scared of anything, but for some reason the forest get spoopy at night. Northeast USA, New York state, not many animules to worry about.

Let's hear some tips how you guys solo.

Leave a detailed Itinerary with a family member of where you'll be sleeping and hiking with a phone call or text check in time the following morning if possible. Dont deviate from the itinerary you give out.

whelp, based on personal experience if you hear someone/something walking through the darkness don't go wandering about looking for it or trying to spook it. just sit tight at your little fire or whatever and nothing will happen to you. being insecure and wandering in the dark does you no favors whatsoever, regarding people or wild animals.

don't get too hammered. make sure you have plenty of comforts and things to occupy your mind - headphones, whittling, arts & crafts, night photography, etc. expend a reasonable amount of energy and time during daylight...

Are you sure it's not "carried in public"?

Never heard of a country that bans them for personal ownership and being carried for a "genuine" reason, such as camping or work.

I have an acquaintance who just heard i'm going to be camping this season, and offered to sell me his old hand-held GPS. Its a *VERY* old model... Like, i remember this same model being used by my dad a decade ago when he did surveying work. My question is, is there any use to it now a days? Or would the maps and everything be so outdated(and no longer supported) that it would just be dead weight.

I dont want to carry my fragile-as-fuck on-a-contract phone(Already bought a PAYG burner phone incase there would be an emergency, and somehow i get a signal) and i also...

Do you think the forests changed so much in 10 years that the maps are useless?

All you need gps for is coords anyway. You should have a paper map.

It would depend on the price really. If getting a power bank is cheaper I wouldn't buy it and just use a cheap android phone.

How can you guys hate a man who's only flaw was "stupidity"?
He's done what we have all thought about doing. We've all had these thoughts of leaving society behind and being completely sick of everything.
How can you hate someone, just because he couldn't survive? We're not judging someone on their survival prowess, see him as a human being for god sake.
He did what he thought was right, and I think most of us are a lot like McCandless, maybe not in his naivety but his dreams.
