Lately I've got a boner for exploring caves (near northern Illinois). How to find natural caves that aren't commercially run or partially manmade(stairs, etc)?

In general, tell us of your subterranean travels, /out/.

Never heard of him.
Just watched a couple vids, is pretty neato.

Makes me think I should wear a GoPro camera when I'm out finding treasure. Only problem is I sometimes stumble onto otherwise unmarked private property I don't have permission to detect, and I'd rather not post evidence of that occasional blunder online for enterprising internet sleuths to question.

I'm looking for some hiking/approach shoes for the summer, as I'm going to be hiking a lot. I'm looking for something light and study on a budget. Are Vibram Five Fingers any good ,specifically the Trek Ascent? What else could I try?

Wtf you smoking man? I'm assuming you meant "light and sturdy". You do realize Vibram toe shoes are literally just covers for your feet? They're minimalist shoes, not sturdy at all. You'll also get laughed at by nearly everyone. They're also $120 and not anywhere near an approach shoe.

Shoes are so personal and there are millions of models. Check reviews on outdoor gear lab to get a start. I doubt you'll want real approach shoes, as they typically suck balls for hiking....

Check out scarpa zen. They're without goretex so they can breathe pretty good and they're rather comfy.
>>
>>786715
I've run gnarly, rocky trails in socal 5 days a week for a year straight in vibrams and they showed little sign of wear or tear. The only issue is they can get real funky, but as far as actually getting not usable, they're fine.

One pair did rip p much right out of the box but that was a defect and they replaced them.

They have a specific trail running version with like a fiber glass bottom. I found that to be overkill and that even their lightest models can handle rough terrain.

carbonator.jpg
55 KB,
I just bought a portable carbonator. Not the one in the pic, it needs proprietary mix that releases CO2 as it dissolves (like pop rocks). I got one that uses standard food grade CO2 cartridges like seltzer bottles. I just didn't post the exact one I got so I wouldn't get called a shill.

It's really small. About the size of a single can of cola. It's lightweight. Including the cost of cartridges, flavor concentrate drops and shipping, it's about 5 cents per litre of soda.

Is this justifiable? Or is making your own soda from filtered stream water inna woods crossing some sort of line where it's not real camping anymore?

I mean don't get me wrong I'mma do it either way, I love compact gadgets that let me bring amenities /out/ with me. I just want to know if it'll trigger anyone here.

Who gives a shit if it triggers any of the sperglords here. The point of going out is to have fun.
>>
Most retarded shit ive ever seen
>>
>>785171

Is it? All told I can fit the carbonator, a couple CO2 cartridges which are about the size of shotgun shells, the sawyer filter and a little bottle of flavor concentrate in one pocket.

It takes up very little space and weights very little but allows me to have sweet, fizzy drinks wherever I can find a water source. That seems like a pretty cool capability to have in such a small, light package.

What would be retarded is carrying cans of soda. Carrying water in general is retarded if you plan to camp...

Just do like the Mexican field workers and wear a baseball cap with an unfolded bandana under it and hanging out the back.

A cap and a bandana combination are more useful than a silly hat.
>>
I wear a hat just like pic related. It cost me $3.95 at Walmart and has lasted about 18 months so far, and still going fine. Been through the wash about a dozen times too.

Can't help you with your neckflap conundrum though

Do you seriously not take bandanas with you? You should at all times have 2 bandanas on you. I learned this at a young age. And I'm not even mexican.
