Are you really surprised that your $20 chinkshit filter crapped out on you?

Anyhow, most folks seem to go with Sawyer filters these days. Fairly cheap and very small/light. Probably won't last as long as a MSR, but they're less than half both the price and the size.

Basically you fill one of the pouches it comes with with dirty water, then hook the pouch up to the filter and squeeze it. Clean water comes out the other end. Just make sure you don't ever use the dirty water pouch for clean...

no not bait lol just wanted to start a convo on using kukris for survival

I don't really understand much about knives or blades in general, but shouldn't a kukri work much like any other knife with the exception you have to wield it in a different way due to the curvature of the blade?

I'd expect people are going to call bait because they think it's unecessary and you're just trying too hard. Good luck OP

Hey /out/,

I'm a second year college student planning to graduate with a bachelor's degree of geology with a minor in physics.
What kind of jobs do you experienced /out/doorsmen have/know about, and are there any specific jobs you guys would recommend that allow me to be outside pretty often? I know this is a decision I need to make for myself and do some proper research, I just thought I'd ask here first.

We can turn this into an /out/ career thread general I guess

most geologists have post graduate degrees
>>

Yeah my professors have told us we will probably need to specialize eventually.

Do you know any specialized career paths (volcanology, hydrology, structural geology, whatever) that let me work outside at least a few times a month?
>>
>>797889
Pretty sure if you're trained in petroleum or mineral exploration you'll have plenty of opportunity to work outside in the arse end of nowhere.

Sup /out/ can we have a campsite books thread going? Was thinking of buying pic related to take the next few trips this summer. Also thinking about getting a copy of the Revenant, might give it a try.

Any suggestions? What do you guys read at the camsite/ Innawoods?

I don't mean books on survival and bushcraft and technical stuff like that. Sometimes I just like a nice story.

The trail

I've been challenged to walk a large portion of the south-coast of England.
I have some experience in camping, but that was only doing D of E, and all my equipment was awful because I was a poorfag.
Can anyone from /out/ tell me what equipment I need without breaking the bank too much, I expect to be travelling a few weeks (I do have enough money to stay in hotels every now and again, and with airBnB I don't have to be camping every night).

camping isn't necessary at all

all of the seaside towns/cities are so close to each other you can just eat/sleep in each one every lunch & night
>>
For food I personally wouldn't spend a lot on expensive camping food. Because of all of the towns on the coast I'd say it would be a lot easier and cheaper to just buy food from supermarkets day-by-day.
>>
>>796557
That's what I was planning, heading to tesco or whatever shop each day when I head through a town to pick up some food, or eating in a cheap cafe for lunch.
I was planning to carry about a days worth of food at any one time to for camping and keeping costs down as I dont want to fork out on eating in a cafe every lunch.
Cans on all day breakfast and shit is what I was planning, I have a little gas stove already that I could use.

Slug damage?
>>
If you're into the no pesticide/herbicide thing like I am, just put a plank so the slugs can crawl under it when the sun starts to shine, pick it up before the night and dispose of them.
Also, if you have plant fleas watered down medicinal alcohol does wonders, vinegar is bad because it fucks up the PH of the soil.
>>
Same problem with my beans OP but I think I have snails not slugs. They eat the sprouts the plants don't even make it as far as yours. I bought 3 bean transplants and used those instead and it's working out great so far.

/out/ I have been watching this plant grow in a raised bed for sometime, however no one recalls planting anything in that spot. It is also different from the other plants (the rest are strawberry). Any ideas as to what it is? I thought it could've been an herb but I'm not sure. Pic related.
