How do you get over the fear of being followed when you're /out/?

I go on hikes alone and constantly keep looking over my shoulder or just freeze up. Its really annoying ;_; i just wanna enjoy nature without being hacked up by some crazy person or eaten by a mountain lion

You don't. You just mask the fear with a firearm.

I carry when I go camping/hiking solo because you never fucking know with people anymore. I don't brandish it like a dickhead though, I keep it concealed.

>Hacked up by some crazy person or eaten by a mountain lion

Try not to impede on their known territory anon, as for the crazies, well at least you'll have done everyone else a favor by putting them in the ground before they choose to make you their next meal.

is a revolver good enough?

its an old Model 19 ;-; .357mag is strong right??
>>
>>791577
With a .357 you can kill just about anything you can hit, unless you plan on running up on a rhino.

For defense I'd stick with hollow point for blunt trauma, which is where you want it. Stopping power.

I carry my Walther PP in .32 more or less to either halt/deter a human attacker, and as in Kansas, the largest animal would be a deer if it ever decided to charge me, which is highly unlikely unless you corner it.

317 KB,
I want to get into scuba diving and I found what I think is a decent package. $1850 will get me all the way up to a PADI Divemaster while apparently saving $500 on course materials as well as $100 store credit (though I'm pretty sure I'm still technically paying for that). The side courses for Advanced Open Water like wreck and deep diving are also included and I should get a year of free gear rental.

I already own all the equipment that they require for starters and I'm ready to go. Is this a good deal?

Padi is a joke. Sdi is where it's at.
>>
The shop also does SDI training, though I'm pretty sure they don't have a package like this.

Regardless, I'll definitely look into it.
>>
I wouldn't go from owd, all the way to dive master in one go. I'd take it step by step in each area and log more dives before moving on. Its better to be a owe with 100 dives under you then be a dive master with 10dives. The name just says you can go this deep. I'd inquire about how many dives you will get in each section also get rescue diving under your belt and some other Tec dives. I'd wait till you hit 50 so dives before trying to go to dive master so your comfortable under water and have praticed and mastered your gear and the most effective ways to use it safely. PADI is a good company less pricey then other but they don't cover as much material in the OWC unless you go AOWC or higher. I personally like NAUI they have been around longer then PEDI and cover a bit of rescue diving in there OWC since being able to save your own ass and others is very important. But company is mostly a matter of preference really PEDI and NAUI are the most known and largest. BSAC SIDI are smaller but that doesn't mean they are worse or better then the big 2. Just really make sure you get a good instructor that will work with you and cares about you being the best you can, and safe doing so when underwater.

What's /out/'s opinion on the best way to keep away bears when innawoods? I'm going to start some deep woods backpacking this summer in black bear country, I was planning on bringing along bear spray, but what about a gun (a high powered rifle or 12 gauge)? Some quick research seems to show that bringing both is the best option, especially since we have high wolf population around here too (I've personally been stalked by them while in the bush, and my dad was attacked by one last year). Is the gun worth it or is it just unnecessary weight?

Boat ramp etiquette

So I've been taking my canoe out to this lake, parking at the chamber of commerce welcome center which has a boat ramp.

I load my canoe right by my car and make sure that when I'm on the ramp everything is all packed and I can just jump in and go.

When I was coming back after paddling for a few hours, these 3 yuppies, 2 guys and 1 girl were launching their jet skis. They seriously had their truck on the ramp for about 25 minutes and even after all their boats were in they just hung out on the ramp for awhile, blocking it.

Does it really take that long to unload a small jet ski from a trailer? I was able to untie my huge 100 pound canoe from my car by myself, portage it 50 feet or so with 120 pounds of sandbags+ my gear, and paddle out to the middle of the lake faster than it took them to unload their tiny jet skis.

I wanted to yell at them to move since I was tired and wanted to get out and relax, but I have no prior boating experience and I didn't know if they were in the wrong or not. Were they? One of the guys immediately asked me to move my boat once it hit the ramp so he could put another jet ski in. I was like damn dude I was going to move it anyway.

I don't leave my canoe chilling on the ramp, I wait for others to go first, but is their behavior acceptable?

I feel like they were just some rich douchebags I should have said something to.

Listen mate, the basic tenets of Watersports dictate that if you own a jetski, you're a cunt.

Don't get me wrong, we ALL enjoy jetskiiing - but people who own one are always borderline gangmembers (ie hard but not nearly hard enough).

When it comes to jetski fucks, the only option is

>step 1: tell them to please open the slipway for others
>step 2: tell then to fuck off cos you've already called the cops / harbour authority
>fucking call the cops before...

Jetskis? Isn't it obvious they are rich douchebags?

However, in their defense, you don't unload your boat on the ramp while they are still loading/unloading (unless its a 2 lane ramp).

But it sounds like they were being slow and you've got a canoe so I would have told them "hey I'm gonna put in next to you and I'll be gone in a minute". I wouldn't exactly ask permission more just tell them what I'm about to do but if they objected, then I'd suggest they...

They looked like douchey frat boys, pretty tough looking though. I honestly don't care how muscular they are when I have a paddle I can use to knock them upside the head.

One of them said he'd help me put my boat back in the water when he was done but I was like 'I'm good bro, its a canoe lol.'

Hey /out/

Im looking at buying this property (pic related, numbers are in feet) so that i have a nice piece of rural land I can put a cabin on, do a little small arms shooting etc. I wanted to ask you guys what you thought the best setup on something like this would be. Specifically, whats the best way to winterize a property like this while maintaining a level of self sufficiency and sustainability?

I have a lot of long term goals, but I just don't know where to start.

Get a temp job at a farm. Go from there. 15 acres is plenty of land for that type of thing. Looks like there's a house nearby so getting electric to that spot will be easy and not as expensive. It is always good to have redundancies in place for utilities, regardless of your level of self-sufficiency.

Thanks for the link, Ill be sure to look at that.

As for utilities yes it shouldn't be that difficult to hook up. The farm next door and the B&B way down the road are the only inhabited places for a good 50 or so k. This land is owned by the farm in the picture.

Im looking at prefab cabins to put on it to start, although i plan on something more substantial once I start making more money. Problem so far has been finding something thats winterized.

What im most confused on is winter sustainability....

Catfishing and carpfishing can be more active you're active and make an effort to be where the fish are.

Too many people think you just toss out hooks covered in prepared bait as far as possible and wait 2 hours for a bite and if that doesn't work, then you keep waiting.

That'd be like bass fishing and only sticking with one lure, in one spot (ignoring structure and cover), casting to the same place, with the same retrieve, and hoping a fish will strike.

If...

Hi /out/

Beginner hiker here.

I have recently moved to Switzerland and I have to say this country is beautiful and of course it is a great place for hiking and biking. The only problem is the rain. Sometimes it rains for weeks. As I do not have apporpirate clothing yet I cannot go hiking when it rains. I am planning to buy now some clothing / shoes for hiking in the rain.

The following brands are available here:

Waterproof, windproof Clothing:

The north face
Jack wolfskin
Columbia
Helly hansen
Rukka

Seriously?

1. Buy a waterproof jacket -- light and cheap.
2. Go out.

Seriously -- get used to rain. Rain is not dangerous. Bring a $2 plastic poncho if torrential downpouring.

If fall/winter/spring/high altitude, get some waterproof shoes or boots, and _maybe_ some waterproof/-resistant legwear.

Get a tarp for breaks.
>>
>>796923
#1 is footwear. It's ok to spend some serious money on your boots. Get a rain jacket, and a small pack cover wouldn't hurt. test that for a while. If that isn't enough, rain pants. There's lots of rain gear for a reason

Arcteryx Alpha is the Cadillac of hardshells. I have the pants too. I hike in Salomon Quests which are waterproof.

All you really need though is waterproof boots and a poncho. Although since you live in a rainy environment, it's nice to have more serious rain gear.

Took small amount of LSD and had a mild trip, just a body high no visuals and walked/ran 50-55 miles for the duration of the 10 hour trip.

Not sore at all. Literally no blisters, feel great. This is 24 hours later roughly.

Should I consider doing endurance things professionally? I really had a good time doing it and considering the amount of complaints this board has for anything over 15 miles a day I've got to say I impressed myself.

Was in Daniel Boone National Forest for 100% of it. No roads, some backyards but mostly trails and animal paths.
