Anyone here live on Long Island? Is it worth going to the Muttontown Preserve to visit the ruins of King Zog's Palace? Has anyone here went there and found it?
Im on LI. I didnt know about this place... but I'd like to see it.
Joining the Air Force and my job will have me in a plane so I get to go through this, can anyone tell me what to expect or what your experience was like?

Cool man, I'm a SERE specialist at Fairchild. Maybe I'll be teaching you.
Hey folks. I live in australia and I have started doing overnight through to 3 day hikes.
I have a ordered a simple Vango blade 100 tent until I get a feel for what I am after, as I am a novice. I was wondering, once i receive the tent and find out exactly how long the tent pole is overall, can I purchase a tent pole that comes in smaller sections? It packs down to a decent size, much smaller than the one I have now but it could be a lot smaller with shorter sectioned pole.
Cheers
You could consider getting trekking poles. Those are light, will pack down and many tents are intended for use with them.
Look you retard they aren't going to sell a small tent with really long poles.
You sound like a worrywart. Chill brah and get your shit together before ordering more gear.
>>629674
When I do a search for that all I get is hiking poles. It seems like it would be pretty easy to just get replacement poles and cut/string them myself. Can i do that without compromising the integrity of the tent if I make the sections shorter then they usually are?
I have seen a lot of different things here called gimmicks. What do you think are some real gimmicks?
dude thats bad ass I want one

>I have seen a lot of different things here called gimmicks.
It's a common phrased used by people who sit in their parents basement in attempt to elevate themselves by putting down things they can't afford, due to things like their parents not giving them much of an allowance.
Hey /out/
I am hoping someone can help me with a question. I am wanting to join my local ESAR (Explorer Search and Rescue) program, but i have a few black marks on my record. I know they do a background check through the department of emergency management, what i was told anyway by the local organization leader anyway. The way it was described to me in my orientation was "if you have ever been in the back of a cop car, for anything other than a ride along, you wont get in". That seems a bit outrageous to me, but how much truth is there too it? I really want...

Nobody regrets "experimentation", sexual or otherwise, until they want a real job.
Then it's all, "Holding me accountable for muh past is just, like, stupid, man."...
Or, "What do you mean I need an education? That's just like, stupid, man!"...
Who was that Seator that got busted in an airpot for slliciting homo blowjobs in the Men's room, because an undercover cop baited him with toilet paper stuck to his shoe under a wall in a stall?
Pled guilty, then had lawyer change plea! Kept his job, even after the humiliation of soliciting homo blowjobs in public!
Who the fuck even knew that was a "signal" unless you already knew it?
But op ain't no Senator's son, he wasn't born with the silver spoon in his mouth.
Sorry op, get a lawyer to make it go away. That's...

By getting a bike. Or you could just enjoy the sounds around you ffs. I'll never understand why people always have to have shitty music being pumped into themselves continuously.

Answer this truly, could you have lasted more days than this man? In the same location, same state, with the same supplies, could you have lived indefinitely off the land? What would you have done differently than he? Would you have stopped at the bus too? Would you have kept going?
The issue with that is I wouldn't do it like him. He is a total retard.
The question is akin to asking someone with no-to-limited flight experience if they could have done a better job landing a plane than some aviation fuck up. I probably couldn't do much worse than Mccandless, but I probably wouldn't do very well either. That's because I haven't done anything to learn survival techniques in Alaska because it's a situation I'm not going to put myself in.
To answer you're question, I would have stopped well before finding the bus. In fact, I'd have stopped before double majoring in the liberal arts.
Poor dumb bastard looks like a god damned skeleton in that picture.
I would have done better IF I decided to do that. But I won't decide to do it. And the only reason I would do better is because I would save up money and make extensive preparations for such a journey.

Got a Staffordshire Terrier mix from a local pet adoption the other day but I can't pick him up till he is fixed.
Will mainly be at a nice big house, but my intention is to take him outdoors on hikes and on trips to a family cabin.
Anyone else have a staffy? How do they do outdoors?
Any tips for taking a pet outdoors?

dogs that are muscular and dense tire / overheat / gas out more quickly so you shouldn't make him run a lot. long walks should be fine if not in intense heat. since dogs can't sweat and mostly lose heat panting, if very hot you might wet his fur and give him water regularly.
also beware of gunfags they will fill justified shooting your big scary dog if it looks at them.

Greatest /out/ist ever or common bogan?
>>631553
Ausfag here.
Even I think he was a common bogan.
>>631553
he's not much of an /out/ist either way. possibly an /an/(whateverthefucktheycallthemselves).
mostly he was /tv/ though. he was a showman and a personality. his enthusiasm and passion for animals and nature was admirable, and he did the most good with his talents anyone ever could. he was a good man and doesn't deserve to be made fun of.
Hey /out/ I took a shit the other day in the woods, and it was very awkward. Do yall have any positions to optimize the process?
>>631444
Find a fallen tree, let your ass hang off one side, makes it easy enough. Also, learn to squat, it is healthier for your intestines.
>>631444
Squat over the nearest geocache.
Hahaha, when I shit I nearly went on my hiking boots, lol one of the guys tried to shit in hay and his hands fell thru and got hay up his asshole
Hey /out/, found this while innawoods yesterday. Thought you guys might enjoy it. Took everything I had not to kick it down

I find that if you look at the tiny thumbnail when choosing a pic you can see if it's sideways, sometimes. Then I go into the photo and turn it around. Or you can always take the pic in sideways mode.

Hey /out/,
Right now I'm using a flip knife I bought at my local hardwear store to take /out/. I've read good things about Mora's on here and was wondering if their good knives? I would just use it for various thing's around camp, cooking, chopping wood, etc, maybe cleaning game every now and then.
Thanks in advance
>>628889
i have that knife, had it for about 6 years and its still sharp, havent sharpened it once. good blade length, practical. ive split logs and cut rope and what not with it, also easy to conceal when out and about, would definitely recomend
>>628889
Yes. I bought mine in stainless and love it. Ignore the shitty guy with the wal mart fishing knife that undoubtedly post here.
why would you want such an ugly knife, anon?
>Americans aren't allowed to camp anywhere they want, make campfires or forage
How exactly does one go /out/ in America?
Do you just go along touristy trails and sleep at designated camping spots with "leave no trace" faggot shit?
Like, why are there threads about Americans buying axes and knives on here if you aren't allowed to use them?
Please explain to a Scandinavian
I'm tempted to visit some American national parks but if they're this extremely restricted I'd rather...

It really depends on where you go. The rules vary from place to place. If you go to one of the National Forests, they're generally pretty lax about what you can do. You might need a permit for some of the more traveled trails and camping areas, but they're usually cheap or free.
The National Parks are more regulated, but they're not that bad unless you want to Hunt. Main thing is that all of the good ones are overcrowded as hell unless you know where to go. Yosemite National Park for example is a complete clusterfuck of crowds and tourists unless you hike...

I don't understand. Are you proud that your country doesn't mind if people just fuck shit up? I'm not big on having to look at everyone's stupid attempts at building toilets and fireplaces all over.
There are different classifications of public land. BLM is basically free-for-all, National Forest is generally chill, and National Park is hermetically sealed scenery, look don't touch. There's a place for all of...

There are tons of gigantic state and national forests, as well as general federal lands were you can basically go do whatever the fuck you want. Keep in mind, America is enormous. Also plenty of people have ranches or other large chunks of land and they just go out on their own property.
