How do you travel and sleep if at any moment a camouflaged predator can jump out and try to eat you.

So low possibility of detection, and if that fails you gotta use a weapon.

How likely is this to work against a bear though ?

>>635756
A fire? Wouldnt this attract attention like mad. Espeacially at night huh ?
Ive actually read a bunch of websites. Fire wont do shite.

Recent birds thread.

Bagged a red headed woodpecker a few weekends back, it was a juvenile but still awesome.

Anyone else see anything good lately?

Nothing too exciting, but the Old Squaw ducks are back in Toronto Harbour for the winter. I love the calls they make.

Pigeons were going nuts outside my window just now like there was a hawk around, but I don't see the hawk.

Here's a fuckin turkey that keeps appearing and reappearing around Harvard Yard, right in the middle of the city. Over the years it's been caught and removed but it (or one like it) keeps ocming back. Anyway I've been seeing it around a few times the last couple weeks. Vid is from 2014 but related.

hunting in pa.jpg
188 KB,
Hello /out/, first time poster here.

I am going to start getting into hunting, specifically with a bow. I am not sure where to start with getting my license and which I would need to hunt with a bow.

I am going to hunt in good ole PA as a PA Resident, so the license I know only costs me about $20 or so, as long as I pass the test.

Any tips on getting started? Resources, what kind of bow should I look into, etc?

Also I am wondering if Archery Ranges would have bows to try out so I could get a feel for them, but I guess that's just dependent on my area.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to use these bobber stoppers? I figured you just pulled on the string and cinched it tight on the fishing line, but no dice

the tube is just to slip the rope on, slip on line, pull knot off, tighten knot

theyre garbage anyway, i just tie a mooring hitch in my line to hold floaters/ strike indicators on

this
The rigs that come with the bobbers are usually useless, but the bobbers themselves are top tier

I do it once in a while, it's great exercise and a lot of fun.

Yeah I love it, Minnesota has a good skiing community so there are a lot of places that groom trails and rent skis. I rented for a year and then bought my own cheap pair of fischers, I will be training for a race up in Mora mn now that we finally got some snow.

I want to try skiing and camping but I really only have summer camping gear. I imagine you can cover much more ground than hiking.

I am an 18 year old female, want to start some wilderness/semi-wilderness solo camping trips next spring.
I know what I am doing but I fear sleeping alone at night out there. Tips to get over it? What are your experiences solo camping?

Only way to get over the fear is to go do it. What part scares you?

Never had a bad experience solo.
>>
Tell someone where you're going and when you'll expect to be back. Read up on stealth camping. Even when legitimately camping, I always use stealth and leave no trace principles if only to minimise my own impact, let alone attract unwanted attention from other humans.

Any metal dectorists here?
I am looking at used models on craigslist and wondering if I need spend the big bucks or can get started on the cheap.
I mostly want it for gold prospecting if that matters.
Thanks.

gold has a poor electrical conductivitie so you can't use cheap detectors. you won't just get a signal. I am saving up money for a Imerator Xp with wireless headphones. seperate handheld pinpointer is also must have. Here in Europe the most interessting stuff is at max.30 cm deep. I have the habit of digging every signal since i have a secound hand whites and i am building up expierience in interpreting signals.

i stated that fact so op doesn't think he can expect huge gold nuggets with a seben detector. The Detector in op's pic is a very good start for a rewarding hobby.

Is firesteel really the best way to make fire in the woods? What are your experiences with this and other methods? I'm sorta new to bushcraft, and starting a fire with sparks seems difficult. Please share any tips/tricks.

There is no "best way". And starting a fire with a fire steel is not difficult, depending on your tinder. Personally I carry matches, a lighter, and a fire steel because the weight and volume is not worth leaving behind. (and its not expensive to have all 3 either)

72 KB,
I'm currently planning a backpacking trip for this Spring. My current focus is on picking a location/route.
I've done 3-4 day trips, but I'd like to make this one around a week.
Most routes I've found online tend to be 2-4 day routes.
I'm located in North Carolina (School:Greensboro Home:Raleigh) and would
prefer to go somewhere that's around 3-5 hours driving range.
I'd like to pursue mountainous/difficult terrain since I'm in pretty good shape and I like the idea of a challenge.
I'm also open to the idea of exploring...

I find him very honourable. He has raised awareness about oceanic problems, such as acidification and pollutions (e.g., PCBs), and how they affect biodiversity and even our future selves.

I agree with his actions of defending cetacean life by breaking down ships and harassing stupid Faroe, Japanese fishermen, and Inuit people considering there is copious evidence defending cetacean high self-awareness and intelligence. If we acknowledge their high encephalization quotient, high degrees of brain folding, complexity of their neocortexes, psychological experiments validating...

He's a faggot and a retard. If you're going to be an eco-terrorist, do it right. Not that I disagree or agree with him. My ex loves whales and I watched the show because she talked about it. The show was absolutely horrible. It's a noble idea, in its own way, but it's so stupidly done it blew my mind.
