Catfishing last night was a failure, although I did kinda half ass it. I guess I'll just go for more bass and sneks today. Only problem is it's so damn hot with this FL sun. I'll probably lounge around, then go waste some money at Bass Pro, and go out to a lake around 5pm or 6pm.
It's Saturday, y'all better be out there too.
Talk about fishin

As far as mountaineering goes, where does Mount Doom stack?
Like, K2 or something?
Seems pretty treacherous.
>>801025
Two midgets, one of whom was half dead, and a skinny skele were able to climb it unassisted. It's shit desu.
I went down to Tongariro yesterday m8 actually, it's nice for photos if you're interested and camping.

They didn't summit though
Does /out/ forage for anything?
Not necessarily food or hunting.
Im planning to gather pine resin for a few projects and maybe try to find some decent sized logs to age for woodworking. Watched a few videos of people digging for amber and other precious stones but i doubt ill find any of those.
Curious what /out/ does besides practice pyro skills or sleeping while innawilderness
I hunt, fish and trap. Forage for mushrooms during spring and fall, berry pick during the spring and fall. I do loads of foraging.
>>800156
Im scurred to try mushroom or berry foraging.
Bought a few guides, but when i go out and try i feel like said plants dont match worth a damn. Next step it to look up mushroom or foraging clubs but they're all near the cities rather than nearby rural places.
>>800178
This is all down to a game of patience. You're not going to be an expert on foraging wild plants or mushrooms overnight or even over a few years. You need to take it slow, and be meticulous. Try to make no more than one or two positive identifications each time you go out, but even then, that's optimistic. For a lot of plants you may need to watch them for a while (like throughout the season) to really feel like you know what they are. be aware of when and where you are finding something. I don't know...

What trails are your favourite?
Any trails you are planning to go on?
Any sc/out/s near each other?
Good equipment for out shit weather.
Am I the only Sussexfag here?
swanndri bushshirt is GOAT for shit weather.
not my picture
Glasgow here. Gotta love the Trossachs for accessibility.
Op here. From South Gloucestershire, walked most the Frome Valley Walkway, its the only decent route there is. Most of the landscape is shitty flat fields filled with cow shite.
I have to travel outside the region to get any good walks.
Ive been eyeing the Oru line of Kayaks and am leaning towards purchasing one even if the price is a little out of my range.
Is there another brand of portable kayaks I should be looking into, or should I just for over the money to get an attachment for my coupe?
Im just looking for a cost effective way to get into kayaking.
Get a regular one. I hauled mine around on the roof of my saturn with a pool noodle and 2 ratchet straps
I would never trust a collapsible one in anything other than perfect calm conditions

i live a short walk to a bay/beach. its too long for a haul up and down but it would be beyond stupid to drive. plus storage in my apartment is an issue. I am hoping that we will see a price drop in the next six months (although doubtful) or an off brand knock off because it really would make the most sense for me to have.
Where did you go /out/ this weekend?
Pic related, me enjoying a great view of the Presidentials in New Hampshire.
Greylock reserve in western ma
Really great place
>>792474
Hit a few lines of the AT while I was there which was nice
>>792474
OP here. I live by Boston, haven't had a chance to go out west yet. Anything else nice there other than Greylock? It's on my to do list, but in the fall when leaves change.
I found these mushrooms today. Are they anything good ?

if you expect someone to be able to tell you if something is safe to consume from a photo: take more than one, get closer, and make sure it's actually clear enough to see
those look like the genuine article to me
Those are delicious actually

g'day fellas
I'm a /p/hotographer and I love the /out/doors, recently introduced to this board.
Any kiwis on here or tourists in NZ? I wanna head down south to the alps. I don't mind going alone but it's always good to have company. All my mates are broke or don't like hikes. I'll be primarily headed for photos. Trying to keep it as cheap as possible - drive there from Auckland (I can pick you up on the way if you live south of Auckland), it'd be nice if you have a tent, but we can always hire a room.
Any questions etc...

Taranaki guy here. What are you attempting to do?
>>801177
I don't know any specific trails. I was gonna look up some nice walks near by Aoraki. But anywhere with mountains is good aye.
>>801181
West Coaster here. You see them better from this side, when its not raining.
Ive heard Bushcraft by mors kochanski and bush craft by richard graves are the only two books you really need to know how to survive.
How true is that? If you don't entirely agree what books would you add to read?
its a great book, i own it, and i would recommend it

This has been my personal outdoors bible since I've been interested. Some of it is pretty silly (Who would ever want to make a hat out of bark?) but seeing how I live in the southwest, there's a LOT more useful information in here than Mors' book, which is focused more in the north. It's chock full of useful tidbits. The only thing I'd debate is treatment of snakebites, but that's a huge shitshow to begin with.
Hey guys
So, I am planning on buying a poyke pot (Mostly for 1-3 persons meals), what size you think I should get?
Also, what backpack (size wise) I should get for long thru-hikes (tens+ kilometers) - I gonna need to carry water, food, stove, sleepingbag, some clothes, maybe a tent (but that I can tie to the pack) and other shit. 55L will be enough? I dont wanna carry something too big if it isnt necessary
>>800819
Hello OP,
For the pot I would go for a bigger size as I guess you will use it in your base camp (not carry it around all day). Then weight is not the primary concern. Having it little big bigger gives you versatility.
55L is what I have also. I envy my friend for his 65 as it looks more suitable to our climate and conditions (Finland).
Have fun!
>>800831
Actually my concern with the pot is the price. These poyke pots are expensive af, I mean way too expensive for an iron pot (60$ for a 4L pot, I think, and up to 110$ for 6-7L pot)
Op get a military pot https://www.google.ca/search?q=military+cooking+pots+with+lid+frying+pan&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjqpq7ExsHNAhUUHmMKHVW8CdIQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=crtANCa8Pz0qDM%3A something like that one. I own it and I can cook a meal for 6+ people in it. Mine is a 8 liter thou
Is it possible to light a charcoal grill using just some dried leaves and twigs? I would prefer to not use lighter fluid if possible and would like to avoid purchasing anything like a starter chimney if possible.
Yes, but it may take awhile. I've done it with cardboard, I made a pyramid of the charcoal and then stuffed some thin cardboard strips under the grate. For sticks you should probably get a little fire going then add the coal.
Yes, i use some paper and fatwood
Just use a fucking propane torch.
Why does /out/ have to make everything so complicated?
