How far was him from civilization? Re-watching the movie now and there's no way to get way from the idea of the freedom that an /out/ journey like his can bring to someones life.

It's the ultimate cliche but the life it's also the same thing. Born, Live and Die, the only certain things in life. Yeah, he died alone, in the cold, with pain, but in the end he still perdures. His history, his thoughts, his free spirit that can be found in everyone who loves the nature and the /out/doors,

There is nothing stopping you from filling up your backpack and walking into the bush. (Unless youre married with kids, in prison or owe debts to Sicilians)

I always tell people my hitchhiking adventures and the first thing they say is "wow I wish I had the freedom to do that" and there is nothing holding them back but themselves

He overestimated his abilities, sure. But he never had any intention of having a career or family, he despised commercialism and wanted to die alone in the woods. Probably not so quickly, but still. He also lived more during the two and a half years that he traveled than most cubicle dwellers will in their entire lives.

>Look up which USDA zone you're in.
>Go to a seed company like www.burpee.com
>Find the plants you want, and order the seeds/plants that grow in your zone.
>Plant them in the ground.
It really is that simple OP.

I'm probably going to go fishin' a little bit. There are a bunch of lakes and ponds in commercial and residential areas out west where I have been working. Everyday I'm out there, I regret not having a rod in my truck. I'm just hoping I don't get hassled for trespassing too much.

Also I need more practice with that new baitcaster rod. Bought another spool of line in case I birdsnest it real bad again.

Looked like you had fun. It also looked like you were trying to see how much of your parents' money you could blow before they realized you "borrowed" their credit card to go on vacation. I seriously hope you picked up a different girl every night in every town you visited, though. Its important to me to live vicariously through others.

Is there such a thing as a lightweight four man tent? My friends are poorfags that can't afford anything of their own so basically I just buy and carry all the gear we need, which is why I would like it to be pretty light. Needs to be able to have myself and two friends with my pack and maybe their little jansport bags and shit. I'm in SoCal so it doesn't get all that incredibly cold, which means a three season should be fine if I even need that much. I guess my price range would preferably be around $250 or so if that's possible.

I want to go kayaking but the local kayakers make it sound very dangerous to go alone. Is a canoe safer or a kayak, also I saw some kayaks at Walmart for 300 dollars is would I be buying junk if I got that or are they fine for a beginner?

Where? Ocean? Lake? River? Whitewater? Warm or cold water? Kayaking alone isn't necessarily dangerous unless it's rough water or open ocean but you should know what to do if you tip.

>also I saw some kayaks at Walmart for 300 dollars is would I be buying junk if I got that or are they fine for a beginner?
As long as it floats junk is better than no boat but you should have a look at used boats as well. Better not to spend too much on a first boat because you don't...

I casually kayak on a calm lake every now and then. I bought a $250 kayak from Walmart, and it's served me well for about two years now, no leaks. It was a really good, cheap option that let me know whether or not I liked it. Stay far away from boats if you're going out on a popular lakes though, the wake can easily tip you over. Don't bring anything with you that you're not prepared to lose.

Research your area for trails, get a map and some snacks, then day hike it man. If you find out you enjoy it consider equipping yourself with gear to camp
>>
>>657278

>>657281
This guy gets it. 90% of /out/ is actually getting off your ass and going and doing something. You don't need all Gucci shit at this point. A small backpack, a waterproof jacket, bottle of water and some snacks are about all you're going to need to get a taste for it and a dayhike locally there. If you're feeling brave, build yourself a popcan stove, and grab a tin mug from poundland and some 3-in-1 coffee, make a brew whilst you're out...

Some suggested routes: (But get an OS map with a compass first, then work out how to get bearings. Then you will never get lost, even in the thickest fog.)

Having an issue finding a fine task knife. I am looking for a 2in blade with a 3in-3.5in handle that is also a horizontal draw. Any ideas? Pic is of the closest I could find, but it is a bit too long, and doesn't look to be horizontal draw.

Ever thought of finding a knife you like, tossing the sheath it came with, then get some blank kydex and making your own sheath?

Shit, you could heat that shit up and bend it your the exact spot on your hip, ala cutom fit.
>>
>>656940
"You probably have a knife in mind that is SUPER close to what you want but the the sheath isnt"

that's really what I'm trying to get at
>>
>>656941
Yeah close enough. I think I am going to end up spending another 50 to get a proper sheath for it. It was going to be worn at the 11 o'clock position so it would be a cross draw.

So I'm joining the Marines and leave for bootcamp at the end of june and I really wanna do a decent camping trip with some friends before I go. I'm just not sure where would be good for it. I'm based out of Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. Don't particularly want to drive more than six hours. Looked up camping areas and what not, just want some other peoples input.
