405 KB,
Ok, /out/, I'm considering going on a long camping trip this summer, and I want to have my own vehicle to do it in. I'm planning to go somewhere in West Canada, in those mountain ranges. I'm not terribly concerned with comfort, so what's a vehicle that has good gas mileage, carrying capacity, and can reasonably accommodate 3-4 people for up to 3 weeks, but would not be terribly cramped/small?

Kind of a the wrong board. Most everyone here won't consider that really camping (including me)

May as well stay at a hotel and go on day trips... Especially if you're considering dropping that much coin to go on a three week trip.

Well the point really is to get as far away from civilization as possible, and obviously that is incompatible with either staying in a hotel or hiking, because one cannot reasonably hike hundreds of miles from the nearest settlement.

Does anyone have a large collection of survival information? Like a mega-pack torrent? What's the best way for a sheltered retard to consume as much information as possible about outdoor survival?

Don't torrent anything. Start by going on short range overnight camping trips and day hikes.

If you do what you're thinking of you're going to end up buying a tonne of shit and never using it.

Then go /out/ as the other guy said.

To what end do you want that information? Just to masturbate to survival/bug out fantasies? Or do you actually want to get out?

This might not be the right board for this but I think you guys can help me out.

I'm looking for a cheap place to buy/get made a blanket made out of animal furs. Normally, and obviously these things are usually stupid luxury items and are ridiculously expensive and only come from designers or some shit.

I would be using it for camping with my girlfriend now that its starting to get a bit chilly.

I'm a DIY type of person but I don't know if I'd be up for killing a bunch of foxes and skinning them and...etc.

If I could exploit the...

I am fascinated by Wyoming for some reason. I want to do a week long road trip out there in the spring. Does anybody know anything about it out there? Where are the best spots for /out/?

Tetons are breathtaking
Yellowstone is fantastic if you go in the back country and stay the fuck away from tourists
Laramie is also known as Laradise for a reason
Bighorn Mountains are amazing
Devils Tower is a sight to see and climb
Thermopolis has some nice hot springs
>>
>>669203
I wanted to stay a night in laramie and then do a day hike in Medicine Bow forest/mountains. Is this is a tight spot?

I keep hearing about The Grand Tetons. Are Grizzlies a major concern if I go hiking there? Also, is it better than checking out maroon bells in Aspen, CO?

So there's about a week left of hunting season (bow hunting) where I live. As I didn't see a hunting thread in the catalog, I figured I'd start one up.

I'm a sort of rookie hunter, been going inna woods for 3-4 seasons (whitetail, bow) and have yet to get anything. So I'd love some advice, if any would be so kind

ITT we can also share experiences, stories, pictures, tips and tricks, hunting wisdom and any other hunting related things. Doesn't have to be deer, and doesn't have to be bowhunting

Bowhunting is very demanding, and many people who try it aren't skilled enough marksmen to consistently make clean kills. If you're not confident you can kill cleanly, don't shoot. I assume you're in the states, so I have to ask why you don't hunt with a firearm of some sort to start out. Basic shotguns and muzzleloaders can be had for less than $200 and aren't hard to shoot accurately within their effective ranges.

The best advice I can offer is to scout hard before the season opens...

btw I killed a massive ten-point with one side broken off this afternoon. It's a crying shame he wasn't intact but I guess the antlers will have what they call character.

My best hunting story is the time my father shot a hog through the lungs with a .270 and it ran a half mile from where he shot it and died right in front of me. Crazy coincidence and he might not have found it otherwise because the blood trail was so spotty.

I've mostly hunted the American south and Namibia, so come at me...

I also read that your chin is supposed to be tucked in and head down, but that seems rather uncomfortable.

I basically watched this video on Facebook about a guy who jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and then in mid air changed his mind and decided he wanted to live (just look up Kevin Hines), so he basically took the brunt of the impact on his feet and legs. The bridge has a 98% fatality rate.

GasBuddy for cheap fuel
CalTopo (site, not app) with snotel overlays for snow depths and terrain/slope overlays
Avalanche Forecast for ... well, avalanche forecasts
DOT websites bookmarked for the states I'm travelling through for road closures

I also keep copies of parts fiches, owners/service manuals, wiring diagrams, etc for my vehicles on my phone. Not ideal, but in a pinch it's nice to have that information available.

USB-OTG adapter's kinda handy too.
