Hey /out/
A while back my neighbor shot a coyote out on my property, we couldn't find the body but yesterday on an outing we finally spotted it.
Its very far gone, desiccated and torn up pretty bad. Long story short, Id like to salvage some of the bones.
What's the best way to clean this thing? The soft tissue and skin is sort of dried out on it and its half gone (pic is not the coyote but its in very similar condition). Ive heard bleach fucks up the bones, and hydrogen peroxide is better, but I have a hard time believing either will clean off...

Shove it up your ass. The acid in your intestines will clean it.
Dump it in a vat of diesel, let it sit for a few days
At that point everything will have fallen off the bones or just slide right off at the slightest touch
Clean them up with water and a soft brush. If you want them perfectly white you'll have to paint them
Boiling might work
Guessing you want the skull, not much else will be too interesting or worth the effort.
I would probably try to stir up the brain through the spinal opening if lts still there to get it out then boil it on an outside fire for a few hours, scrub clean then let it sit in hydrogen peroxide for a while to bleach
People always like to talk shit about Bear but he is a true outdoor's man, and you can't argue with that. Maybe he does things in a exaggerated way and the shows are not the ones with the most information, but go away and ask your favorite buscraft guy to do what Bear does and watch him die of exhaustion after 3 miles running,

He's a showman and nothing more.
>piss drinking
Any survival "expert" who knows their shit knows that drinking piss is possibly the worst thing you can do in a survival situation.
>>708406
And why would that be the case? As far as I know piss is sterile and certainly better than nothing to drink.
I don't know about the sodium content in urine though.
>>708425
It's dehydrating. You can get away with it once in a trip, but twice and you're fucked.
Who would survive the longest?
Bear is a fucking joke.
Les puts himself in random situations and carries around 100lb of cameras instead of survival/out gear.
>All that shit Bear does
Die with some fucking dignity
Why won't you knife fedoras admit that if you didn't have so many anime figurine packages to open you wouldn't have much use for a knife at all?
I kill an animal in a trap about once a week by slicing its neck
I skin the same too
That good enough for you?
Cause it's not true, desu
Amateur porn pics brought me to 4chan, no anime. I stay far away from those boards and you should probably go back to them.
Posting this on here because you guys are my favorite board and also many of you probably have experience with this.
I need to make an emergency road trip from Atlanta to New Jersey on Saturday. Drive is about 13 hours straight without stopping, so with breaks and whatnot, I'm going to say it'll be closer to 15 hours.
I have frozen and cold food that I need to bring with me on this trip. Could a foam cooler like this packed with ice keep my food safe for that long?
Yeah it'll be fine but can you really not go 13 hours without cold food and drinks?
>>707386
Yes. Grab some soda bottles/juice bottles, fill them with water, freeze them, and place them in and around your food. You can even set them around the cooler itself and cover everything with lots of blankets/pillows.
Even 24 hours is like nothing really. Unless you mean shrimp, Popsicles and ice cream. lol In which case use the method I described.
What sleeping bag do you use?
Im looking for a 3 part sleeping bag with a cotton inside liner, the actual sleeping bag, and a tough water resistant outside liner.
Marmot Trestles 15.
>>706214
normally, the liner and bivy are bought separately from the bag, so that you can customize how much lining and weather resistance/space you need.
tell us more about the conditions you plan to camp in, then we can make a useful suggestion.
>>706228
I need a comfort temperature between -10 and -20C.
And i would prefer a cotton inside liner and a goretex bivy.
Has to be mummy style, and needs a compression bag.
Does anyone know of a "totally legal" way of getting an airsoft gun into Australia. Mainly into qld for no particular reason.
damn you guys can't even have airsoft guns?
Poor Aussies and their lack of a bill of rights
Im not too sure about all the regs and shit, but I think you can buy an airsoft gun without a license

holy shit, it's even worse than England.
Post futuristic technologies for outdoors or technologies you wish were currently on the market.
Here's what I want. Shiver Shield. It is clothing made with aerogel insulation. Imagine a sleeping pad, clothing, and cooler using this stuff.
>>704137
Wasn't there a paint/coating for the Space Suttle that was like R-42 insulation factor?
I would paint my wagon, pic related.
>>704139
cause the shuttle program was such a success
>>704139
Aerogel is the insulation NASA uses. The only spray on neat-o thing I can think of is that nano particles stuff to prevent things from getting dirty, but it wears off after a while and makes things look whitish and dull. The newer stuff seems to be a bit better.

But, yes there is an insulating paint that NASA has developed,

Are these good for cheap starter hiking boot? Also suggestions for good online gear store that deliver to Ireland? Cheers.
>>703270
Reviews seem quite good. Also they're cheaper on amazon right now.
>>703270
I just bought a pair of golites at a thrift store for $5. Resoling them will cost me another $5.
If you plan on spending much time in them save up and buy a good pair. They last for years and happy feet means happy times innawoods. Go to your local outdoors store talk about what you will do and let them show you and try some boots on. You dont need to buy straight away but you do need the right shoes to enjoy time in the woods
Hey /out/,
So I thought that it'd be good for us to have a thread on how you've dealt with injuries/illnesses while /out/.
I'll start, so I completely chopped off the top of one of my fingers before, it was pumping blood. I was about 90mins drive from any medical help. I stuck the bit of flesh back on and used a whole pack of butterfly stitches to keep pressure on it and help to stop the bleeding. The bit of flesh stuck on a bit after 2/3 days and I started putting honey on the open wound. It closed up 3 days later and started to use comfrey ointment...

Wait, through the bone and everything? Lucky guy
>>692006
I've never had to deal with anything besides mosquitoes. Treatment involved ignoring the issue.
We need this thread though.
Willow bark makes a decent aspirin substitute.
Mint is good for upset stomachs.
Garlic has antifungal and antiviral properties.
Anybody got more?
>>692006
This may be odd and goes against everything we're taught but I'm 52 and have not once in my life needed a FAK
I've been skiing 3X with injuries requiring cart/sled
knee/knee/collarbone
I've been on boat requiring a butterfly bandaid
kneeboard to the nose
1 fish hook in a bare foot
broken finger playing softball that I set myself and broken collarbone playing hockey that I set myself (see earlier skiing)
So much is made about FAKs but I think they are fucking useless
City boy here
w-w-what should I be choosing?
>>692456
Matches - To make fire for warmth, to cook food, to boil water
The Pot - To cook food and boil water in
Tarp - For shelter, rainwater collection
First aid kit - Just in case
Everything else seems kind of pointless
>>692456
5 ounces of weed
Wilson
Vitamins
and a Hammock because those fuckers can be a pain in the ass to make yourself.
But I want 5 ounces of pot that has seeds. I don't want just male plants.
Everything else I can make or make due without.
>>692456
fishing pole (I'm assuming this is magical and always has a hook on the end of the line), if not I'll go w/ the Mora so I can make spears. Also you can set up a rock trap for fish so, forget the pole, I want the knife.
tarp
hammock
pot, cooking pot that is.

Let's discuss fishin'
Does it rustle your jimmies when you see someone lip a fish?
Does anyone have tips for crappie or white/yellow bass fishing from a boat? I normally fish for black bass or catfish but some of the lakes around here have good populations of crappie and white bass that I'd like to try and target. I have a pretty good idea of what bait/lures/techniques to use, I could mainly use some tips on finding them.

just explored my new backyard, will post some photos soon. So tempted to cast some big bombers into the river, but I know its still too early for striper in the river.
What are the advantages of putting a tent inside a larger tent?
Pros
>double insulation
>inside tent stays clean
>double rain protection
>double bug protection
Cons
>hard to get out
>have to set up two tents
>have to buy two tents
>Yo dawg I herd you like carrying a lot of shit
>So we put a tent inside yo tent so you could get scoliosis while you backpack
>>707847
I let my wife and her boyfriend sleep in the smaller tent inside the larger tent, and then I sleep in the larger tent just outside the smaller one.
She gets her privacy and I stay dry as well. It's a win-win.
Well tarp over tent is a good idea although ur insulation isn't as air fight.
Tent for bugs
Tarp for water

I'm going on a 3-4 day hike through Northern Scotland with a friend of mine in about 3 weeks. Not got much experience, but have a decent list of items. Would appreciate any advice or commonly missed item suggestions.

You guys have fun!
>>707285
>implying these are not already on the list
secks is of gr8 importance
It would help if we knew what was on the list in the first place.
