What kind of sword do you carry in the bush? Do you prefer a spear instead?
Well sword goes better aesthetically with my fedora and fingerless leather gloves.
Spear goes better with my wool cape and vibram five fingers.
My favourite of course is my thousand folded wakazashi as it's a good balance between size/weight and utility, you know for dealing with those pesky skin walkers.

Starting a 3-night loop near clingmans the following week, looks peachy. Sunday will get hairy but just wear layers and get lots of water protection for your gear and body. Keep a set of dry base layer just for sleeping in. You'll be fine. I'm jealous, I'd love to wake up to snow during my trip

I was wondering if there would be a way to obtain recent-ish, high resolution (1m or better) sattelite maps (of a small area) without paying a few $k (free, preferably).
Does something like this exist for a common citizen like me, or am i just looking for something unrealistic?

Check your local govt. My state's (AZ) game and fish has a GIS service with satellite/map/watershed etc. Info. Also CalTopo has several different map types and I used to make a personalized map for my last hunting trip

Here's a pendant I made from a flint arrowhead which I think is really old. I made the rawhide myself, did a shitty job but the weave is my own design. Spare bootlace for the string seemed appropriate.

Plen here, I've backpacked the AT both south (Nantahala) and north (Pisgah) of the Great Smoky Mountain Park grounds, but never through the park itself: I am fully aware that you need a permit to camp or backpack anywhere within the park grounds; however, I am completely on-the-fence as to whether I will go for a 4-5 day & night trek through it for Spring Break (which is starting this Saturday). If it isn't too late to purchase the permit (I don't even know if this is done by mail or can be done instantly or electronically), could I get away with backpacking without it?

I highly recommend a trip in the Smokies, but
the A.T. during spring break is probably not the best time.
Permits were once mostly straightforward and free, but no longer. the park service has strong-armed a new policy into place in 2013 despite huge opposition from the local communities.
Hey /out/, what's the best product that filters water? Preferably, one that is easy to move around with too. Normally I would just google this to get multiple opinions, but I've noticed a lack of content on filtering water. Also, as a more rookie-ish side comment, if you're /out/ with no water, the best place to drink water is from a river, right? Are there any other spots that are acceptable in which drinking water from it won't make you sick? I assume this is the right place to post this question.

We had these at camp mowglis and I can honestly say you can suck water out of the ugliest and murkiest of puddles. Many a times wed hike up to a stream expecting it to be roaring, only to find it entirely depleted. These things saved entire trips.
If you know the area / flood patterns really well a life straw will be more than enough.

I used a Dremel to cut out sections of 3700 boxes so the bags fit better. Sharp razor blade would also work.
But that box has long since overflowed so I just throw them into the pocket of my bag now. I would just combine them into lesser bags but at least with PowerBait, the colors can bleed into eachother.

I used to catch the Obscure Birdwing Grasshopper as a hobby and serious excercise (for reasons I'll explain), raising them in cages for eventual backyard release (I live in a forested area). And these bugs can fly across a field's worth distance. You have to catch them with the first net swing, and trust me, you'll be running after them for a while before you get good. You have to move slowly through the vegetation, waiting for them to make a mistake.
I got so good I caught ten females and several males in one spot.
Any area with high vegetation...

I raised and bred Madagascar Hissing cockroaches (just one left, I sold most of the colony to pet stores), Mealworms, Flour Beetles (from mealworms), I even used to have a leech. And some leaf eating Stick Insects.

Currently studying Entomology in grad school. I've bred crickets and hissing cockroaches before and I have experience pinning and butterfly wing spreading.

What's wrong with my chilli plant?
New to growing, this is my only plant so far. I've done an adequate amount of research, but dont want to start more plants if I'm only going to kill them. I bought a small 4 shelf green house, it's just a basic frame with a soft plastic cover and zipper door.
This was the first picture I took, and when I went to take the second picture, the lead actually fell off. The brown parts aren't crunchy, they feel soft
Same leaf, but it fell off before I could take a better picture, so hopefully this helps.
Last picture. This is the rest of the plant, it seems like this other leaf will endure the same fate.
Is it deficient? Too much liquid feed? Maybe try another brand of liquid feed?
I'd lean towards low light and possibly overly wet soil from the pics. The top leaves look fine though. They will drop their bottom leaves first under stress and also after time if they're perfectly happy.
