So why hydraulic brakes instead of mechanical ones?
So you can stop faster...?
What kind of mechanism do you propose? The only one I can think of that works with suspension is a cable (like many parking brakes), cables stretch, hydraulics can transmit a lot of force very consistently, and are easy to maintain.
>>14008754
thanks for the arguments - I was just wondering why hydraulics are used instead of mechanical ones with cable
Hey /o/ what are your thoughts on the Dodge Hellcat lineup? Are they worth?
Would love to own one, they're no canyon carver but undoubtedly a lot of fun.
just the engine itself 2bh
you could prob buy a restoration body like an old cuda and drop a hellcat engine for less than a 2015 model because of thhat dealership mark up
>>14008659
I think they will make interesting engine swaps when someone with more money than sense decides to get curious.
>mfw someday there will be a hellcat nd miata
Why is F*rd so inferior to Mazda®?
Are asterisks the hot new meme now?

If you have a V8 Mustang just keep it. That [Hoonigan] sticker and the stripped doors mean that thing's abused as hell.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2015/12/08/nhtsa-crash-test-ratings-five-star/76987630/
>WASHINGTON — U.S. regulators are overhauling the process of assigning safety ratings to new vehicles by proposing requiring more crash-avoidance technologies to achieve a perfect score and adopting new crash-test dummies to assess performance.
>NHTSA on Tuesday proposed revising the current ratings system from a single overall score of 1 to 5 into a multifaceted scorecard that would include the score on crash-avoidance systems and a mark for pedestrian safety.
>The overhaul, which is now open to a public comment period, would go into effect for the 2019 model year barring bureaucratic delays or political hurdles. The changes include:
• A new rating to gauge a vehicle's use of nine advanced technologies such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. That's significant for the automotive industry because it could prod manufacturers to turn often-optional but highly profitable safety systems into standard technology. It could also increase the average price tag of a new vehicle.
• New advanced test dummies with improved sensors to better predict injuries.
• A new frontal oblique crash test to address what NHTSA described as a type of angled crash "that continues to result in deaths and serious injuries despite seat-belt use, air bags and crash-worthy structures of late-model vehicles."
>Currently, NHTSA ranks cars simply based on crash-worthiness. Five stars is a perfect rating. The new system will retain an overall score, based on three sub-ratings: pedestrian safety, crash worthiness and crash-avoidance systems.
>Regulators have not yet determined how much weight they will assign each category when determining the overall score. One thing they've settled on is allowing half-star ratings.
Looks like auto makers are going to have to find new ways to shill higher trims soon.
Also I bet Volvo is pretty happy right now.
> It could also increase the average price tag of a new vehicle.
Oh joy of joys more retard-enabler technologies become mandatory AND I have to pay more for it? Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo.
>crashed F*rd Must*ng
nothing of value lost
The shitposters are on fire tonight.
Recently, when I start my car, generally when it's kinda cold outside, it does this (what's in the webm)
Revs drop super low, it makes this awful noise, and when I rev it, it drops to near 0 before slowly and really unresponsively climbing back up to 1k.
Is this just cause of the cold? Is there any way to remedy this? Could it be anything else? Any help is appreciated, thank you
webm originally has sound but can't post in /o/
>>14008257
shameless bump for help
>>14008257
It's the cold. Run the car in neutral to warm it up.
>>14008408
just letting it sit in neutral at the near-0 revs with the CEL will be fine?
I'm asking seriously, just to clarify, in case that sounds uh, not serious or something
>Hey dude! Nice WAT sticker!
>haha is from 4chan/o/! its a site full of memes haha!
Nice twingo honhonhonhon!
/o/, just how does one go about negotiating over a new car? I will gladly admit that at no point in my life have I had to negotiate beyond merely asking for a toy in return for some chores that I already did. I guess it's just strange for me to imagine saying fuck you LPG, knock off two thousand.
Basically, I guess what I want to know is
>Are all cars open to negotiating in a general view, not counting dumbass instances like buying the last Evo ever or some shit
>How much is it acceptable to ask off
>How do you know how much to ask off
>How far will agression get you
>What vehicle types are less negotiable (Hotcake mid trim sedan versus barebone single cab truck versus mid-size RWD SUV)
>Will extended warranty be worth it
tl;dr How to not sperg out at the dealer
I guess I should also say that I have asperger's syndrome and while I'm much better in social situations and whatnot, I'm shit when it comes to reading people and emotions.
never extended warranty. 100% scam.
you can haggle anything. Generally, the longer a car has been sitting on the lot, the more money off the dealer will be willing to give. Generally they will NEVER take a loss though. It does happen sometimes, but it's rare.
I went and looked at a truck. They were asking $28,000 for it. I left with the truck and paid $18,000.
Aggression won't get you far. What will get you far is acting/threatening/etc to take your money to another dealership. They want your money until they realize you are an incompetent moron...

Hey, that's one way to do it. Let me see if I still have my tl:dr haggling guide around OP
>>14008214
>I'm shit when it comes to reading people and emotions.
You'll be fine. negotiation is business. You don't need to read someone to BUY a car.
>that guy with a lifted bro truck he uses only for commuting back and forth to work
That's what a brotruck is, any actual offroad truck doesn't look like a brotruck, whether it's for mud or rock crawling or blasting around in the desert.
>that guy who straightpipes his shitbox DD in high school
>>14008040
>that guy who doesnt straight pipe every car hes ever owned
>that guy whose only car is a miata

muscles cars not allowed, need good balance between HP and handling.
>>14007600
I would rather have a drivers car, not a numbers car.
>>14007600
I'd rather a corolla
>>14007634
To be fair the Cobras and the replicas do both, at least the FFR replicas.
best 2 door coupes
Slowish but cheap and fun

help! I've inadvertently fallen in love with early 2000's practical family sedans
>>14007551
Good mpg and value await but only if you post "THANK YOU COROLLA!!" in this thread.
more specifically v6 versions of early 2000's practical family sedans
Does this look like a horrible idea for a first car? I need something to drive maybe 30 minutes a day, does this look okay for 1000$? I know nothing about cars but it looks cool.
https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/5306789528.html
86's are good as they are SEFI, also have the one year only TV rod instead of cable
5.0 is easy to work on and reliable, AOD is reliable, make sure the grommet isn't fucked.
Honestly though, if you know nothing about cars, I wouldn't start with a 30 year old one.
Just buy a late 90's toyota.
>>14007599
fuck you dude
>hurr you should buy a car you hate for your first car
>>14007529
Great. It'll be comfy, reliable, and easy/cheap as shit to work on. My first car was an '89 Cadillac Fleetwood I got for 1k and that thing was a kid's best friend.
What does /o/ think of the Iltis? There's like 4 of them in my city, and....I kinda want one myself.
>>14007524
Why would you want one?
>>14007550
Because look at it! I have a soft spot for little recce vehicles.
