hello /o/,
ive never been here before. ive traveled a long way over here from /b/ to maybe get answers to my (probably) really scrubby questions.
how does motorsport work?
more exactly, how does all this team business work. im always readind about certain teams in formula 1 for example that employ (i guess) different drivers to drive their cars for them.
do drivers from the same team compete with each other?
what do the teams get out of the whole deal?
who supplies the cars to the drivers?
who was phone?
thank you very much in advance, /o/
bump cuz im not rly sure how frequented this board is
>>14077391
Depends on the kind of motorsport
>>14077391
Basically, some rich bloke wants to race so he buys a car.
Then he realises he cant drive, do he hires a driver.
Then he realises that he cant support the driver during races, so he hires a pit crew.
Then he realises hes a woeful strategist, so he hires a race control team.
Etc etc.
>see ad for 300$ '97 Camaro
>go look at car
>see pic related
Any ideas what could be the issue?
>>14077305
blown motor or fucked clutch
Yeah thats clearly the third rotor in the primary piston control column of the second transmission gear getting backed up and reverting energy back into the shifter placement breaker
>>14077305
That's really weird. I've never seen that before.
if the most wear occurs on startup due to the lack of oil pressure, why dont car makers add an electric oil pump to prime the channels and passages before you start, similar to how the fuel pump will prime?
>>14077280
Because cars last long enough and they want you to keep buying. Add that to the cost of developing a system and why would they?
BMW already did it on the V10 M5 engine.
>>14077280
Taking a risk to make an oiling system electronic and having it fail is probably worse than just taking the little bit of extra wear on parts that are meant to wear and be replaced anyway.
So here is the story... I was driving home from work one night and as I stopped at a red light I noticed that my car was idleing wierd. I look over at my voltage gage and it was going to the same rhythm as the car. It sounded like it was going to stall but didn't. I just happend to be right down the street of orylies so I pulled in because my check engine light came on. I had then run a diagnostic on the car and It came back that I had a bad (EGR)Valve, and my RPMS exceeded there limits. The problem only a Now keep in mind that my car was having trouble starting. Not bad...

This. Do this.
Been driving automatics my whole life and now it's time I learned manual.
Best car around $5k I can get to drive manual?
Wagon/hatch preferred
decent power but decent gas mileage
Is plastidipping still considered shit if the paint looks bad on a car?
buy any old piece of shit first. drive that into the dirt. Drop the clutch, grind the gears, butcher the shifts.
fuck it up and learn in it. afterwards buy something descent!
You can probably find a decent WRX wagon for $5k
Find a sub-500$ piece of shit that barely works, put a cup of water in the cup holder, spill as little as possible.
Toyota.
Is Toyota the best brand to purchase?
Mainly for resale value? And every vehicle they make is a solid competitor to their competition so you will be happy enough with whatever you buy but you get tremendous resale value and reliability.
Honestly I find it hard to look at anything other than a Toyota.
yep they have the best resale value
Yup. Still the most reliable car brand

>Drawing upon specific uncommon instances to undermine millions of vehicles
Ok
Just bought a 2002 alero with 61,000 miles for $2,600.
How'd I do for my first car, /o/? What am I in for?
>What am I in for?
Major mechanical issues and an extensive history a vin check will find
>>14077068
Underhood shots, nao
>>14077068
At least $2600.

what else is new?
They're trying to stop progress. It won't work.

holy shit that 911 sounds godly
>speed LIMIT
>meaning don't go faster than a certain speed but you're free to go slower (but above minimum speed)
>people still want to crawl into your ass if you're at limit or slightly slower
>people even get mad if you do not permanently go at speed limit or even get pissed if you're slower than 5miles above it
How comes that so many people confuse speed limit with minimum speed?
>>14076667
Because speed limits are arbitrarily slow due to politics. /thread.
>>14076667
Because the current speed limits should be the minimum speed. If you go any slower, you're disrupting the flow of traffic and putting yourself and others in danger.
>>14076673
IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

I'm thinking about buying a cheap toy to fuck with. I can pick up an SR5 meme car for $2000. Should I?
I'd just do autoX, rallyX, shitty mods, and basically abuse it. Any other cheap cars I should consider? Like an A60 Celica, AW11 MR2, 318ti, etc. But no convertibles so don't even mention the Miata. I'd rather have a V8 American car but I don't want to spend that much on a toy.
Btw I do NOT watch Initial D. Never seen a single episode. I am not a weeb. I love all cars.
>$2000
holy fuck. i bought one as a memecar for $500 and it was barely worth it
>He wants a FR for rallyX
FF would be a better choice, and useable in AutoX.
a FR would be a good choice for AutoX, but not for rallyX
amateur rally is dominated by FWD's
>>14076450
My local rallyX is divided into rwd, fwd, and awd classes. So I'd only be competing against other rwd cars. The last event in my area had more rwd cars than fwd cars. But of course there were more awd cars than both, and they were all Subarus. Typical and cliche.
What is the best fun and also cool car that is still practical?
>German is too pricey for repairs
>I hate the Japanese so lexus is out
>American cars come off ass cheap / redneck / nigger
Are there any practical german cars, or should I look for less stereo-type american cars?
>implying Ford Focus isn't god tier practical car

im looking for something that doesnt look like a college student economy hatchback. been driving hatches too long.
