If I was to describe my work travel requirements as, "drive all over the Goddamn place," mainly on highways, what make/model or type of vehicle would you recommend?
Priorities are supreme reliability on the daily grind and comfort. We aren't racing. We aren't hauling shit. But we also can't be rattled around in a plastic Suzuki all day.
What price range?
BMW E39 530d or E60 535d.

I have discovered Volvo (v40 t5) to be pretty good on long trips. If you are in Europe have a look at the latest generation diesel Citroën C5 with hydro-pneumatic suspension.
Did Honda carbon copy the 4th gen Prelude to create the 5th gen Accord?
I'm going to Japan this summer and would love to check out some car meets. Has anyone ever day success finding one without any connections? I read that there are meets at other popular lots but I don't know where to get more info on this.
I'll probably try to get a cab out to Daikoku Futo PA on a friday or something and hope for the best.

>I'll probably try to get a cab out to Daikoku Futo PA on a friday or something and hope for the best.
You are much, much better off just renting a car. PA stands for parking area, it's a rest stop on the expressway.
I was in tokyo for a week and saw so much random hectic shit just walking the street. crazy place

I was just planning on going once or twice. I think I can get decently close on the JR then just get a cab for that short distance.
Otherwise I'll have to get an international driver's license
Yuropoor here, i am bored with the modern car design, especially with that of the german cars. I would like to get a donor car, similar to pic, drop a fuel efficient diesel engine that can handle the weight and a fitting tranny.
My questions:
Anybody already went through the tought process i am currently in?
Why ist this a bad idea?
Any experience or footage on similar projects?
The reason for this, our fuel prices will grow and dd a V8 is not reasonable here.
As an example, i could get a body donor for 2.4K€, and there are tons of cheap VW...

Well, just look at the weight of a Cadillac Seville and look at the specs of that VW tdi. Do you think a tdi engine can move that barge fast enough for the Autobahn?
>>14621174
not op should be OK considering its a cruiser especially if you can retrofit a 6 speed box
>>14621179
>retrofitting a 6-speed into a Cadillac Seville
>converting a land barge that only ever came with a 3-speed Hydramatic to a 6-speed manual
This is just my kind of crazy. I want to see just how well this works.
>tfw driving through upper michigan
>speed limit 55
>going 60
>flashing lights behind me
>son do you know how fast you were going
>60
>cops goes back to car
>gives me ticket for speeding
>140$
>ticket says I was going 70
So...will you contest that ticket or all you're doing is bitch about it on /o/?
I call bullshit.
When the speedometer tells you you're going 60 you're actually closer to 55.
Speedos are different in every car. Since it's generally calculated off the transmission, and sometimes off the ABS sensors, it's basically always calculated off the rotation speed of the wheels. If your tires are newer, they're bigger than when they're worn, and the car travels farther for every rotation, so the car will be traveling faster in relation to the speedometer. Different brands of the same size tire will be a different size when measured, so as you can see, speedometers are almost never spot on.
1 series = Perfection.
That is all.

E46 is recent perfection
E30 is true perfection.

Get rid of this part and you might be on to something here.

Hmm good thinking on the weight reduction anon
Does anyone here have a problem with car hoarding?

No we all ride the bus.
I'm not a baby boomer

Yup. Currently only have 4 because of parking restrictions. But I normally have a lot more.

Yes.
Why do "car guys" love to hate on the prius so much?
I for one own a Subaru STi and a Yamaha R1 and I appreciate the prius and am marveled at the engineering that went into it. I wouldnt buy one personally because I enjoy speed and could care less about gas money, but a good majority of people view a car as something to get from point a to point b and could care less about quarter mile times. All they want is something economical and the pruis fits the bill perfectly.
I feel like the prius haters are just teens that use their interest in cars to appear...

If you dont like what the car stands for thats alright. But you dont have to boast on the internet about how much you hate it. Its not like anyone is forcing you to buy it/ drive it
>>14619790
I would have got the Prius but it was too expensive for me at 10k. I got a Mazda 6 station wagon for 4100. I rode in a friend's 2013 Prius and honestly was amazed at the tech inside. I want to get it to save on gas because it makes sense for me. Most of my driving is within city limits.
>>14619790
My problem with it honestly isn't the car itself.
Its the idiots that own them
Why doesn't anyone talk about the Lexus SC, particularly the first generation, on this board?
>wedge coupe design
>rear wheel drive
>3.0L I6 or 4.0L V8
>available manual until 1997
>Lexus reliability
>less than $10K
What's not to like?
>>14619658
Anyone? There has to be a catch to this car.
The v8 is auto only, and slow.
The I6 is available manual, but impossible to find a stock manual. Markup is 50-100% for a 5 speed. It's also slow as fuck.
The actual JDM tyte version is significantly better. You could also turbo a 2JZ-GE one, but that removes the "less than $10k" and/or "Lexus reliability" points.
If you dont mind auto the V8 is awesome. I almost bought one of these years ago.
Can automatic braking be put on cars with manual transmissions?
>automatic braking
... huh?
>>14618950
not sure if b8 or retarded...
why the fuck not? It is completely independent of the transmission.
>>14618957
A lot of new cars brake for you if you're not paying attention to the road. It's some safety feature
Does Japan prefer manuals or automatics?
Automatic
They buy more (new) automatics than Americans do per-capita.
Source: lived in Okinawa, Yokohama, and Osaka.
Probably the same everywheres automatic is just a conveince but driving manual is the most fun
>>14618935
>buy more automatics than Americans do per capita
Disgusting
