How much of an idiot am I if I pick this up tomorrow morning?
In desperate need of dependable transportation and am quite handy fixing up cars. But this fucker has been through 5 accidents and the latest has declared it a total loss, but somehow still ins't a salvage titled car.
After speaking with the owner, 2k would secure the auto. I'm tempted
https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/5527208727.html
If it was totaled, how is out not a salvage title car?
But it if you have 2k disposable. Offer 1500 None of the issues sounds horrible if that is really all there is. Fix it up and flip it.
>>14821584
Yeah, I couldn't figure that put either. But apparently a car can be written off in the state of Illinois as a total and still be granted a clean title.
The car is being offered at $2400, he's accepted my offer of 2k, I doubt anything less will get the car.
Flipping it isn't an option as I need reliable transportation.

but i am not australian
not saying I wouldn't love to be an aussie, but im not
I have a Golf 2.5 and I often see lots of love for other 5 cylinder engines on /o/.
But not much love at all for VW in general..
Is this just a meme? Or is modern VW still as unreliable as people on here seem to make it out to be?
Mine has been great besides the occasional bs with the interior, but mechanically it's solid so far
It sounds nice, because i5.
It's also pretty realiable for a VW engine, from what I've heard.
I drove a 09 VW Rabbit with one and was a bit underwhelmed with how quiet it was. 170ish HP at 2.5L is pretty weak too.

I googled this but couldn't find anything definitive. Are colored DRLs legal in Texas? Specifically red. Pic related
>>14820700
No. But hasn't stop people in my area.
>>14820700
It was even the first google result:
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/lighting.htm
"The bulb must have a "DOT" or appropriate SAE stamp on it. Currently, there are NO DOT approved "Red" bulbs.
Vehicles that are equipped from the manufacturer with approved lenses which are clear and lighted by red L.E.D. lights will pass state inspection.
Vehicles that are equipped with aftermarket lenses which are clear and lighted by a red bulb will be rejected. (Currently, there are NO DOT approved "Red" bulbs.)
Vehicle lighting equipment is covered in Chapter 547 of the Texas Transportation Code, Subchapter D. § 547.3215 - Use of Federal Standard. Unless specifically prohibited by this chapter, lighting, reflective devices, and associated equipment on a vehicle or motor vehicle must comply with:
the current federal standards in 49 C.F.R. Section 571.108; or
the federal standards in that section in effect, if any, at the time the vehicle or motor vehicle was manufactured.
The CFR will refer you to Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) #J578, which will refer to several other SAE standards. Everything that complies with those standards is "legal".
Equipment manufacturers have to self-certify that they meet these standards. DOT does not test equipment unless they act against those who don't meet standards. You should insure that the equipment vendor is reputable and that all equipment has a DOT or appropriate SAE stamp on it (or if not marked, keep the box that it comes in which says it is "DOT approved") and under no circumstances use equipment that is for "off-road or show only"."
No you ricer. Red may only be visible from the rear of the vehicle. White may only be visible from the front of the vehicle, and amber may be visibile anywhere. State laws may allow more colors but white and red are restricted at the federal level.

What can I do to give my 5.0 F-150 a lot more torque? I'm going to be using it for pulling a lot of stumps this summer as well as some heavy hauling and I don't want a real tractor. Already looking at converting rear end to a dually, what else can I do?

Alright b/o/ys. How dumb is it to buy a car from 1979-1983 to use as a daily driver? Im talking like Datsun 280zx levels of daily driver. I need to know everything I can before jumping into this within the next few months.
Example A: http://frederick.craigslist.org/cto/5510932742.html
That would be absolute max price range and it looks incredibly good.
This would be my daily driver, and my project. Start by refreshing everything possible, like vacuum hoses and fuel lines, and start with suspension/brakes and work my way up.
Dont, buy daily if you want a daily.
I daily a 77 280z. If you have enough money, go for it. however at that price, every fucking thing better work and be brand new, or you're an idiot. Also s130's are shit.
>>14814707
That money could find you a nice s30
Check for rust before you buy
l28 is insanely reliable and won't really let you down
this car can work fine as a DD
Why arn't you using the torque App?
>>14813895
No obd2 in my car :'(
>>14813895
because my car already tells me that information on the dash
>>14813895
But I do.
How much is a 1990 Toyota Supra Targa NA Automatic with 137k miles worth?
I like the aesthetics of the car, and while I'd prefer the turbo manual, if I can snag an NA Auto at the right price I'd do it.
>>14821373
Price?
If it's more than $1000 then no
>>14821397
The guy wants $2500 but apparently it's in very good condition. I was thinking I could try and snag it for $1500.
I think $1000 is unrealistically low.
>targa
Eh.
So I would like an opinion and I know the internet has a lot of them. I have this Mazda that has 185k and gets about 20 mpg even with the tires on it. It's a good little truck but I drive about 35 miles to work one way so around 70 miles a day. I know this truck isn't worth very much maybe $2k with the right high schooler. So my question is do I keep it till it blows and then buy my commuter car? Or sell it for what I can and then buy my commuter?

>>14820369
Assuming you make that commute 5 days a week, got 2k for your truck, and the new car got 33mpg, it'd take 69 months to break even @ $1.95/gal, 62 months @ $2.20, 34 months @ $4.00

>>14820479
So maybe I keep it for a while
well for one those are fairly heavy looking tires which will hurt you quite a bit

End it friend, save me the trouble.
Your corvette isn't running because its owner has no idea how to keep a car on the road.
Next time, consider some diagnosis before you start wasting money on parts.
