It doesn't take a bunch of firefighters to get a cat out of a building, especially when the cat isn't even in a particularly precarious position. How about let's use our brains to navigate this social relationship and environment. Greet the cat; talk to it in a non-threatening tone, let it smell you. Slowly move closer to the cat; don't make any sudden movements, move with grace, allow the cat to recognize your intentions. Let the cat come greet you. If the cat will not greet you, leverage the cat's curiosity against the cat; use food, cat-nip, laser pointers, small stuffed animals on a string or anything you know a cat can't resist to help the cat create a positive impression of you. If all else fails, create a cat trap, place it near the cat and wait; the cat trap consists of an opened cardboard box.
