What are your thoughts on the American prison system?

http://acrossthelinesnews.com/2016/04/05/private-prisons-americas-worst-enemy/
>>
They don't do enough to rehabilitate prisoners.
>>
That's definitely true, but they're a lot worse then just not rehabilitating prisoners.
>>
>>37325
Too much rape and stabbing
>>
Verges on cruel and unusual punishment.
>>
I think it might cost less 2 send them all 2 trade schools.
>>
I think they should spend more time punishing them instead of rehabbing them as it seems really difficult to rehab prisoners
>>
>>37325
With privatized prisons, prison operators can and do lobby against law changes if these law changes might result in them receiving less prisoners. Which isn't judicially fair. Privatizing prisons might save the government some $$ but they're inherently corrupt by creating a profit incentive for punishing people
>>
>>37345

it doesnt save money.

AZ did a study that found thats its private prisons cost more despite the private prisons turning away difficult inmates (i.e. physically and mentally ill) and leaving them for the state to deal with.

How does a puritan like yourself, with such a forced sobriety that highlights a lack of inner spark and intelligence, survived in this world?

In what gated community do you live?

How much do you value trends and what "others" may say?
>>
>>37373

The funny thing is that this is exactly what modern day prisons are and likely viewed as such by those in power.

They are simply places to house poor blacks who do not have a role in the contemporary labor market. Why educate? Why support? Why try to build up the communites or actually attempt to reduce crime or the likelihood of becoming a victim in a poor black area?

It is easier to (continually) demonize a section of the population and then send them to prison. What better way for politicans to get re-elect than to use the white suburban fear of the urban black population? Moreover, the prisons are in poor white rural areas that give a boost to their broke ass economies at the expense of those living in poor black areas. Not to mention, tossing tons of poor blacks into prison artifically reduces the unemployment rate. Its a winning strategy for everyone except the poor blacks, but they don't have any political power or money, so why should anyone with money or power give a fuck?

Contemporary prisons are simply poor black warehouses. Our original poster isn't wrong. His word choice makes him sound like a complete dipshit, but through his racist bullshit he stumbled upon something that could be pretty true.

Actually in countries with a significant black population (US, Aus, etc) the percentage of blacks in prison relative to their % in society is higher. In australia aboriginals make 2% of our population but over 20% of our prison population
>>
>>37362
>it doesnt save money.
So is the lobby too strong for private prisons to go away?

After all, they only have 2% of America's prisoners.
>>
>>37410
>the percentage of blacks in prison relative to their % in society is higher. In australia aboriginals make 2% of our population but over 20% of our prison population

Arguably, aren't those race societies in extreme poverty levels?
Because they have higher levels of poverty, it makes sense for them to go to prisons more. The less education you have, the greater the likelihood of you going to prison.

Now you can argue that this should change, but I'm just pointing this out.

Well. Those are the Appalachians. Crime is usually found in cities. West Virginia does not have some major cities that are worth mentioning. You can't really find a lot of crime is rural, or in this case, mountainous areas.

Less law enforcement doesn't mean crimes aren't committed. It just means they aren't reported/investigated/convicted.

it is ideologically attractive for those coming from a neo-liberal/neo-conservative perspective.

it might not actually save money, it might not actually reduce crime, it might not actually do all sorts of things but it is attractive to voters who want the gov out of everything and have been taught to believe that business is the most efficient thing ever (despite the fact most large corps are just as bureaucratic as many gov agencies and only a few people in the corp have any ability to change anything going on).

The lobbies probably assist in keeping the private prison industry moving along as well.

Also, the Arizona gov is run by dipshits. They are poorly managing the state's limited water (refuse to see that ground water and surface water are interconnected, allow contractors to build new developments without assuring that water can be provided) they sold the capitol building only to turn around and rent the fucker out from a private business, they want to allow people to build strip malls near the grand canyon, and the current gov is doing his best to turn the public school system into a charter schools system, despite the fact that there is no evidence either way that charter or public schools are better (but once again, get the gov out and let the market come in is an attractive idea even if it doesn't actually create a better (or worse) world).
>>
>>37491

why might that be?

Where do poor blacks live? In urban areas, maybe. Where do poor whites live? Rural/Suburban? Why might urban areas have higher crime stats than the suburbs and the rural areas?

Just think about that and tell me what you can come up with.

Also, the history of white poverty and black poverty are rather different, the similar situations may have very different meanings for the two groups creating different sort of actions. Also, how might the war on drugs really affect crime rates in poor black neighborhoods? Despite the fact that whites use drugs at an equal rate (if not higher) and most drug deals occur in suburbia, urban blacks take the most damage from the war on drugs.

Seriously, if you think it is simply genes or something ingrained in blacks how can you explain the shift in prisons being mostly white to mostly black/hispanic in 40 years? (answer, you can't, the war on drugs disproportionately affects blacks it is not any sort of ingrained behavior.)

Also, the murder rate of the US was highest during prohibition and then bounced up again during our silly war on drugs. Does this say more about blacks as individuals or what does it say more about the retardedness of prohibition and declaring war on drugs.

>>37498
not really. this doesn't really seem to take any consideration of history, economics, or how the city is structured. it also doesn't look at the court system or policing behaviors or anything that might actually explain why blacks/whites understand the legal system is very different manners. Really, it is probably one of the dumbest fucking interpretations of the situation because it is simply made up and assigns blame on those who point out there might be a problem and allows you pretend liberals and conservatives are soooooo different, which makes easier to dismiss anything the other side has to say, any idea someone from the other side might come up with, and to dismiss someone as lesser because they are different.
>>
OP posted about an article about private prison systems. Because of the US tendency to mass incarcerate there isn't enough room to house and care for all these individuals. The care for each prisoner adds up to billions of dollars. In order to save money, states look to the private sector.

The private sector of corrections doesn't have the same mindset as a state/federal prison would. They only have profit motive and abuses come with.
>>
>>37503

Blacks have less impulse control than whites and they have a lower IQ. We expect an outcome of equality out of inherent inequality. Which fucks over the blacks because they're treated with strategies that are more suited to people with more internal discipline. So we treat them as absolute moral free agents and punish the fuck out of them when they misbehave.

Which is insane.

>mostly black/hispanic in 40 years?

The utter collapse of the "minority" family in the face of welfare. The government literally shot generations in the foot so niggers would vote democrat.

They're not helpless people but the incentive structure is such that it benefits them to act like victims or to even demand goods and services not to be violent assholes.
>>
>>37522

And I don't say this flippantly. I was transformed from a communist into a near monarchist by being homeless for a few years.

Being in the welfare lines exposes you to the cunning animals and the herd animals who take advantage of what's available.
>>
>>37522

>less impulse control
Let's say this is true (it certainly may be when we talk about impoverished blacks) why might a "code of the streets" develop in contemporary poor black neighborhoods?

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1994/05/the-code-of-the-streets/306601/

>lower IQ
lets say this is true (and likely is), is an IQ something we are simply born with and not affected by the context of our lives?

Hint: if you think it is simply natural you need to come up with some biological explanation of why women all of the sudden surpassed men in terms of IQ. (Note the correct answer is women now have higher IQs because they can now easily access education, are encouraged to do so, and finish school more often than men, but lets see what you come up with )

http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/07/16/why-women-finally-have-higher-iqs-than-men/

>treated with equality.
Just by saying "ok, sorry about jim crow and redlinning, and everything else... now we will all have equal access to everything" doesn't make a fair race. Those who were exposed to various hardships and road blocks are now competing with those who never experience those roadblocks and have a head start.

Think networth (housing - blacks were blocked from moving into good neighborhoods), being blocked from jobs and pushed into shitty ones, and so on. The amount of education and networth one's parents can drastically effect their outlook on the world. Also, being treated differently may cause someone to believe their is no chance they will ever get a fair chance at success. look at the reconstruction of NYC under LaGaurdia, the city transformed dramatically but the black neighborhoods missed out on this transformation. Something like 135 parks were built in the city and only 2 in black neighborhoods,

People don't exist in vacuums, the world we live in dramatically affects us.
>>
>>37522

>welfare.. government purposefully made black people poor to vote dem
What does this even mean? This kind of consipiracy is on the level of George Bush planned 9-11.

So, it wasn't that gov favored whites or simply "reducing taxes" but across the board state, city and federal officials (elected and otherwise) sat down and said, lets figure out a way to get these people to vote dem by doing "welfare"

So when Bill Clinton enacted workfare this was a way for him to get support? when he (and red politicians) increased mandatory minimums and "got tough on crime" and got "tough on drugs" it was to make the blacks vote dem? This adds up in your mind? Clinton signing NAFTA which sent blue collar jobs (which blacks in the north relied on) he did this not to woo businesses and finance, but to woo black citizens? Really?

No one is saying anyone is helpless. What is being said that your notion that being black = being bad, dumb, angry, violent is a pretty silly outlook on the world. It fails to even superficially examine the world in which we all live in and how the context of one's life creates the likelihood of certain responses.

>>37523
this reminds of the recent rants from various pundints lashing out at poor blue collar whites. Saything that are all cry babies, they deserve to be poor, and by voting for Trump they are trying to blame everyone else for their problems when it is just that they are bad people who made bad decisions. Even though 30 years ago, these same people would have been held up as ideal Americans, but since they didn't chance with the post-industrial economy they are failed individuals and lacking any sort of moral character.
>>
>>37500
Even libertarians would agree that the government should be enforcing the law, not private corporations.
>>
>>37547

umm probably not.

As governor of New Mexico, Johnson was an avid supporter of private prisons. And although he acknowledges that they have problems, he also believes that the positives outweigh the negatives.

>>
>>37546
>when he (and red politicians) increased mandatory minimums and "got tough on crime" and got "tough on drugs" it was to make the blacks vote dem?
Blacks were overwhelmingly in favour of these things when the laws were passed.
>>
>>37557
Prisons administer punishment, not enforce the law.
>>
>>37559

Are you a libertarian? The rather vocal libertarian think tank the CATO Institute does not denounce private police or private security firms.

Ideologically why wouldn't a libertarian support private police? Additionally, why would a libertarian support support private prisons but not private police?

http://www.cato-unbound.org/2015/10/23/edward-peter-stringham/private-enforcement-contracts-versus-property-rights

http://www.cato.org/publications/speeches/shadow-force-private-security-contractors-iraq
>>
>>37558

hmm, you are correct a majority of blacks did support workfare (I wonder what this would look like if it was separated by class as well.)

the war on drugs is a bit more equivocal
http://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/08/16/212620886/the-shift-in-black-views-of-the-war-on-drugs

"The debate leading up to passage of the laws in 1973 was fierce, exposing rifts within the community. Some black lawmakers dismissed Gov. Nelson Rockefeller's black allies as "palace pets." Others, like Brooklyn’s Vander L. Beatty, one of the top black legislators at the time, said the Rockefeller laws didn’t go far enough. He wanted the death penalty."

https://www.wnyc.org/story/312823-black-leaders-once-championed-strict-drug-laws-they-now-seek-dismantle/

And by the late 90s we see Clinton still expanding while leaders of the black community are saying "re-evaluate the war on drugs"

http://www.nytimes.com/1998/06/09/world/anti-drug-effort-criticized-as-more-harm-than-help.html

Also, a key thing here is these policies were worked out with dems and reps, so how can it be a dem plot if reps were part of it as well?

Finally, I'm still a bit unsure what this actual plot is.

Thats where most criminals live,duhhhhhh

>history of white poverty and black poverty
Correlation does not equal causation, poverty has nothing to do with crime when you're living on taxpayer money.
Whites, vietnamese and other people live on welfare and don't do crime.Explain that boy.

>>most drug deals occur in suburbia, urban blacks take the most damage from the war on drugs.
THEY have the drugs, and the drug money AND the connections AND the information on gangs, cartel, deals, spots and stuff
Logically you first go after them, pumpkin, don't you think so?

>the murder rate of the US was highest during prohibition and then bounced up again during our silly war on drugs
12 million illegals, cartels across the border, new gangs and the highest ever drug trade has something to do with that
You can't legalize crime ,thats why there is a "War on drugs",drugs have destroyed lives and keep doing it.

>why blacks/whites understand the legal system is very different manners.
Blacks will act retarded in court ,then get axed for 20 years after that.
Whites and asians don't pull that shit because they're smart.

>You assign blame on those who point out there might be a problem
You have a problem with criminals going to prison because they're black
It just happens that most criminals are black
You're more likely to get stabbed, shot, raped, killed, assaulted by a black than by chinese neighbours who never had welfare and are middle class today.

Just saying boy, you're still young, idealist and naive.
Educate yourself.

Rehabilitation does not exist, it is a myth.
The prison system is only a penal system there is no "teaching" people to change their ways, only through locking people away from their potential victims and punishing them do the criminals finally get the message.
Saying that America locks away innocent people too often and executes plenty too, they try children as adults when they clearly are not.
Mental disability and incapacity are ignored also.
The disproportionate sentencing of white against black inmates is also well proven and shocking.
America has the highest prisoner population per head as a nation than any other in the world, this speaks of a sick society where crime is easier to find than opportunity,
The land of the free? Don't make me laugh.

I live in England again now, I have never been burgled, mugged or had my car stolen or broken into, I walk the streets any time of the day or night and fear nothing (I am 6'5" and scary looking), but what you describe is my life so far.
I've been to America many times and find the place in constant fear, the news is always telling the people to be worried about everything the criminals walk with impunity and the general population feel they need a gun to be safe.
A sick society, the symptoms of that sickness are crime and the ensuing fear and intolerance of others.

Internal colonies. They're not sustainable because they have burgeoned to the point where they're actually cannibalizing business that would have gone to private citizens in the past. Once you establish a path from incarceration to private profit, you've pretty much just taken a fat shit where you eat as a supposedly republican society.

In any event, squares should be furious they have to pay for these things in the end via taxes.

>fucktard, maggot, hurr hurr durr
seriously, even if you had something interesting to say it is obscured by your tantrum. this sort of ranting probably isn't the best way to frame your ideas.

rural areas benefit from prisons which often house prisoners from the city

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:lIQzdhOQjsgJ:www.newsweek.com/do-rural-prisons-benefit-locals-74437+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

>at least the city cops can ignore some shit
Police have discretion. Wow. Thanks. Who would ever guessed? Are you telling me that rural cops never let people off, everyone in the rural areas get busted for everything and it is only big things in the city that get people arrested? Loitering isn't a go to reason to arrest people in the city?

seriously, you could argue that since the rural courts are less busy than the city courts it may be that the police are less likely to arrest because they don't feel that the courts are going to follow through, but you would have to counter this with the fact that police engage in tactics that are ethically debatable in poor neighbors to increase their ability to search or pull people over.

>is they don't even attempt to hide it or take precautions to getting caught
the open air markets are rather visible. this is part of the reason that the arrest rates differ from suburbia where the deals often take place in homes.
however, to say that the dealers don't take precautions is a bit silly. they work in teams and the open air aspect of the dealing activity makes it easy to shut things down quickly and not be trapped in a building. the person with the money doesn't touch the drugs. the person with the drugs (which are often hidden and not directly on the person) never touches the money. look outs tell people when the police are approacihing so the group can disperse.
>their schools get more money than mine
and it certainly looks like you could have used a better education.
>>
>>37647

>this is where criminals live
if drug use and selling rates are equal in urban and suburban communities it wouldn't really be where MOST (drug) criminals live, now would it?

>crime has everything to do with race (and welfare) and not poverty
Poor urban blacks (51.3 per 1,000) had rates of violence similar to poor urban whites (56.4 per 1,000).
The overall pattern of poor persons having the highest rates of violent victimization was consistent for both whites and blacks.

http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=5137

>they (unclear who they are) have drugs and drug money and connections
if most drug deals occur in the suburbs why wouldn't these be the targets, again?

>can't legalize crime
what are you even trying to say?
We can't legalize crime but by making alcohol and drug sillegal we can certainly dramatically increase the amount of violent crime in an area. what was your point here?

>blacks act poorly in court cause they are dumb, and is the only difference.
not access to lawyers, not ability to afford bail. not different understandings of the fairness of the legal system, no other variable can explain the presentation of self in the court room other than your idea that blacks are naturally worse than everyone else.

>most likely to get killed by blacks
Actually, a white guy i am most likely to be killed by another white person.
if I was black then I would be most likely to be killed by a black person.

>insults i know better cause i have more life experience than everyone else. i know what the real world looks like.
