Most of a cop's job outside of paperwork consists of interacting with criminals and victims of tragedies; it's a necessary and self-sacrificing profession, not a desirable or healthy one. It's their job to be paranoid at all times and ruthless when called upon. Unless you know an officer personally, don't trust them, just respect them.
