>The charge against Collins stems from the investigation into the leaks of photographs of numerous female celebrities in September 2014 known as “Celebgate.” However, investigators have not uncovered any evidence linking Collins to the actual leaks or that Collins shared or uploaded the information he obtained.

>Many of Collins’ victims were members of the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. By illegally accessing the e-mail accounts, Collins accessed at least 50 iCloud accounts and 72 Gmail accounts, most of which belonged to female celebrities.

>“By illegally accessing intimate details of his victims' personal lives, Mr. Collins violated their privacy and left many to contend with lasting emotional distress, embarrassment and feelings of insecurity,” said David Bowdich, the Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “We continue to see both celebrities and victims from all walks of life suffer the consequences of this crime and strongly encourage users of Internet-connected devices to strengthen passwords and to be skeptical when replying to emails asking for personal information.”

>The case against Collins is the product of an ongoing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

tl;dr While Ryan did illegally obtain the pictures, he didn't leak the pics to 4chan or reddit. The investigation is ongoing.
>>
>“By illegally accessing intimate details of his victims' personal lives, Mr. Collins violated their privacy
Their privacy was violated the moment they uploaded their pictures onto devices they didn't own.
>>
>>29391
>feelings of insecurity
If I had thousands of people on the internet jerkin it to my nudes I wouldn't be that insecure.
>>
>>29391
WHY IS NOTHING HAPPENING WHEN I PRESS THE YES?!

Meanwhile, "The Hacker known as 4chan" remains at large.

Prettty much this. People who usually upload/send nudes are prepared for the consequences. This and the "revenge porn" law is a joke.

What I want to know is what he did to anonymize himself and why it didn't work.

>privacy

I like how I'm supposed to believe this is deeply wrong and illegal but there is no way in hell they could have ever found this guy without severe abridgements to privacy by the NSA and FBI.
>>
>>29547
The NSA's not sharing it with strangers.
I, personally, want more government security.
I have nothing to hide.
>>
>>29785
Thank you If the public is stupid enough to put their dirty laundry out in the open then they deserve to have this happen.
>>
>>29391
Why do these people take lewd photos, though?
>>
>>29391
>“By illegally accessing intimate details of his victims' personal lives, Mr. Collins violated their privacy
But google can legally sell the private details of everyones life.
>>
>>29785
>want more government security
security =/= spying on everything
>>
>>29391
Thanks Collin
>>
>>29790
Seems like a liability. I've always wondered the same thing.

>>29968
thing is we couldn't possibly relate to these people that are crazy rich and basically don't work. they may as well be aliens.
>>
>>29755
Ayup. All investigations now have parallel investigations.

"When you say, ‘I have nothing to hide,’ you’re saying, ‘I don’t care about this right.’ You’re saying, ‘I don’t have this right, because I’ve got to the point where I have to justify it.’ The way rights work is, the government has to justify its intrusion into your rights."

>Then, it seems that whoever was managing the personal accounts of several of the targeted celebrities complied, replying to those messages with the requested access information: the usernames and passwords for their accounts.
They want us to believe that someone else managed the accounts with all the celebs private racy photos obviously taken from a cellphone, or are they trying to intimate that the celebrities themselves are the morons that did it while avoiding a potential lawsuit?

I may be a government worker, but that doesn't influence my opinion in any way.
>>30014
It's a worthless right. A better right would be "we will not give your information to any person or organisation"
I'd rather have a camera and equipment on every neck, if it'll stop crime. If I'm monitored that closely, I'd never die of, say, a heart attack when nobody's around. Some punk gets drunk and angry and tries to strangle you? Don't worry, he'll just be injected with a paralyser, picked up, then reformed!
It'd be better.
>>30047
Censorship is bad, though.

NSA PLS GO

DONT TREAD ON ME

I'm FBI, not NSA.
