Honestly, it's about time this happened.
The Republican's have had too many candidates for too long and that has caused real damage for them. Out of the 20 something people we've had for months, most of them blend together and were unable to really stand out. The reason Trump took over in the polls is mostly because he was the odd man out and the only one who people could even remember. had there only been 3 of 4 possible candidates still in the running last September, the people would have been able to actually get to know the differences between everyone.
In short, it's good that we are another man done, but I think it's too little too late and the damage has been done.

There is always a possibility that at the convention their delegates could be used to support another candidate. If they drop out all the way those delegates go 'unrepresented' and are assigned to whomever the GOP (meaning Reince Priebus as chairman) wants.
