>I FIRST met Larraine when we both lived in a trailer park on the far South Side of Milwaukee. Fifty-four, with silvering brown hair, Larraine loved mystery novels, “So You Think You Can Dance” and doting on her grandson. Even though she lived in a mobile home park with so many code violations that city inspectors called it an “environmental biohazard,” she kept a tidy trailer and used a hand steamer on the curtains. But Larraine spent more than 70 percent of her income on housing — just as one in four of all renting families who live below the... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
America's housing situation is pretty much garbage right now. I just finished my degree, so I have a real place now, but I had some really close calls to homelessness. Landlords just have so much power it's insane. I had a roommate duck out without paying the last month's rent and I was sued. Successfully. I was evicted from an apartment that we had been trying to leave.
Fuck landlords, seriously. If there's a good one out there I've never met them.
Man faces a year in jail for this remark, which is being persecuted under a new law against blasphemy made after the Pussy Riot thing >“If I say that the collection of Jewish fairytales entitled the Bible is complete bullshit, that is that. At least for me,” Krasnov wrote, adding later “there is no God!”
>>27382 More and more people getting arrested for shit they say online. I haven't paid attention to Russia but in the UK. There a few articles of kids getting investigated over bomb threats and suicide attempts in the US which seems appropriate.
Except bomb threats and other threats of bodily harm have never been considered protected speech. How are these incidents a threat to our freedom of expression?
Don't go around threatening to blow people up. It's pretty fucking simple. The police have to waste valuable resources and manpower responding to these threats as if they were serious. They can't gamble on the basis that someone may be crying wolf, because then they'd be even more negligent for not responding at all.

a study published this week in the journal PLOS One has yielded fresh insight into how dogs see us. It adds to existing research showing that -- much like humans, other primates and even goats -- our canine friends use specific regions of their brain to "process" our faces.
"Our study provides evidence that human faces are truly special for dogs, as it involves particular... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
For the first time since pre-WWII era, a neo-nazi political party (formed by radical Marian Kotleba) was elected in Slovakia. According to analysts, the situation was most likely caused by the strong stance of Slovak people against the refugee crisis, which is seen by election of some brand new anti-immigration-focused political parties. For a long time, Slovakia refused to help Europe with refugees.
