3rd fucking try. I work at the GE locomotive plant in Ft Worth. Anyone interested?
Forgot to say, pic is my view chilling on break
>>945784
clearly taken with a shaken potato
>>945786
>clearly
kek
>>945786
Ya caught me. Shitty phone, shitty camera. Ain't broke, not gonna fix it. Maybe this is better
>>945784
this is a bike board only fuck off idiot
>>945784
Are you unionized? If so which union?
Even if no one gives a shit, here's a bit of info.
I'm a welder in the platform area. Never worked anywhere else in the plant. Been here a little over 1 year. All in all, a pretty sweet job.
>>945812
No. The Erie plant up north is, and want us to be union like them. You can tell they were doing great, what with the 1500 people laid off some months ago.
View from on top of the platform, where I weld. Now with slightly less shaken potato vision.
>>945823
If I take that off, will you die?
>>945808
Go get mangled under the wheels of an SUV you spandex wearing cunt.
>>945888
Ignoring the bane posting, no I won't die. I'll eventually get cancer. So yes actually.
I've personally made models for UP, BNSF, CN, CSX, and NS, both Tier 3 and Tier 4. Don't know the fancy names for them. The plant made a few for Citi Rail but I wasn't here yet.
>>945967
Why would you get cancer? I thought welders only wore masks to prevent blinding themselves from the extremely bright welding arcs.
Awkward question but how loud does it get in there? Seems like you have some pretty heavy equipment around there and it could get pretty loud.
What is the most dangerous thing you've done/seen done?
>>946092
We use so much weld wire, and the wire releases manganese or some such. Not bad if welding in open air, really bad when you got 50 guys doing it 16-20 hours a day, 5-6 days a week
With the train horns blown quite often, all the air tools and impact hammers, it gets loud as fuck. Our area is about approx. 800 ft long, 75 ft wide, 40 ft tall concrete box so sound reverbs like crazy.
Haven't done much dangerous shit, because we don't use a crane in a section, but once saw a guy almost tip a fully loaded hopper on himself. The hopper drops ballast in the two end boxes of the platform, with the amount depending on the buyer. This one was loaded at 5 tons plus about 1-2 for the hopper itself. Dude would have been flat as a pancake. Airline got stuck on dead man switch, and his hand started moving the crane away, tipping it over. Got to about 40 degrees before he saw. 10 more feet on crane movement and he'd been dead.
Do you work on the new Tier IV locos?
>>946092
Didn't explain everything, sorry. We use a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR). Has a fan in a backpack like thing, sucks fresh air in thru a couple filters, pushes it thru a hose into the welding hood. Keeps just fresh air in hood, no smoke.
>>946117
Just about exclusively what we build now. Currently in a run of Norfolk Southerns. Got some Kansas City Southern, BNSF, and UP scheduled later this year
Just about the most dangerous thing our area. Station before ours welds all the shit on the underside, flips it like pic related, then set it on temporary trucks while it moves thru the line
>>946128
this is a pretty neat thread
If any one wants pictures of something specific, let me know. I'll try. It'll be difficult, what with their super strict policy about pictures.
an almost finished product would be cool to see
but don't get fired over it
fucking cool!
2 quick pics from final assembly
Almost built
Waiting for an engine cab

Sick, my man. Love the primed locos. I love the bright blue, too. Reminds me of CN's 'Blue Devils'
>>946402
Gotta say, I like the new CN paint jobs the most out of what we've made
>>946402
Or the NS when it finally gets painted
Still here, surviving the weekend
What's in the nose of American trains?
>>947949
Shitters
>>947951
Multiple?
>>947949
Actually, they're off to the side a bit. Dead in front is just an entrance door on ours, with the 2 collision posts on either side
>>947949
storage area and a shitter
CSX had some engine problems
Same loco, different view
>>946514
Disgusting. Killing the paint schemes of old railroads.
>>945784
have you seen anyone get mangled?
what's the worst thing you heard of happening?
>>945888
kek
i will never get tired of this
my gf is getting annoyed that i've been talking like bane all night
>>946143
it's like you want to get fired
>>945784
What is ur fave locomotive?
>>949142
No fatalities here...yet. I'm a gore fiend so I'm waiting. Heard up north a guy got flattened when his rigging got stuck on a alternator and pulled in on top of him
>>949157
I guess UP. Building them are all the same, plus or minus a few parts here and there. Dad worked for UP for 20+ years and I got a few rides, both in the cars and up front like an engineer
Snuck a pic from driver seat in the fucked up CSX
Do you guys put all the hot plates and microwaves in our CN motors or is that something someone else does? Also, why is NS so cheap and only put igloo coolers on their motors?
Bill you need to come to my office I think we need to speak
>>945784
Do you work at the GE locomotive plant in Ft Worth?
>>946036
ES44's

ET44's
The doorstop is gone guys
