Post trains you enjoy travelling / commuting in.
I don't think enjoy is the right word, but it was better than driving. Took it from Oakland to Sacramento in 1hr 45min. Took me close to 4 hours driving last time because of traffic. It was reasonably comfortable, had free WiFi and had a full bar.
>>945742
>actually having to use DB-run service on a daily basis
God help you.
>>945742
it's quiet, comfy, and just a little cramped when there's 4 people in the table seats
Although urban transit sucks ass here in Dallas, I did enjoy riding the train to high school
>>945752
this line has proven to be quite reliable. Only once it came 10 minutes later.
Best tho is Euroregiobahn. I've never had delays ever.
Traveling from St Pancras to Canterbury West like a boss, one of the best days out in the South of England.
>>945742
I travelled in one of those new trains only once, from Essen Hbf to Münster Hbf a few months ago. It was a very pleasant ride, but the interior smelled very "new", like plastic and rubber.
>>945868
The smaller railway enterprises are usually much more reliable and the stuff is so much more friendly.
Pic related is one of the trains of the RE 70 line which I use at least once a week. It's awesome. Much better than the DB RE 6 which serves part of the same route.
>>945904
I once took a train from Canterbury to London and back. I remember I was really sick and the air conditioning was so cold, noisy and made lots of wind in the cabin. I did not enjoy that.
>>945907
Did you go via HS1 or the London Chatham and Dover slow line on a class 375?
the comfy train never stops
OC from an hour ago
>>945912
Oh man, I have no idea. That was three years ago. How do I spot the difference?
Both of them.
ICE is nice and comfy and TVG was a pleasure to ride as well from Mannheim to Paris. Felt a little more cramped and plane-like though.
>>945947
Wanted to take a picture of a TGV today, when it stopped at a signal. But instead of continuing it rolled back the way it came from. very strange
>>945953
Very strange indeed. Don't they need permission etc. to go backwards and all that?
>>945906
You seem to live around where I used to live (Bad Oeynhausen). I have to drive the RE6 from Düsseldorf to B.O. for 2,5h and I can't really complain, other than that it is pretty full when taking it at the wrong time (weekends or rush hour and football games).
Drove RE70 from Bielefeld once, it is a really nice train.
>>945953
I see TGV's rushing by every hour on my window. Mine are from Thalys tho.
>>945925
Another comfy from last fall. Same line, different train.
Rode one of these babies for about 9 hours to Madrid, about 700km. It's slow as balls but dirt cheap. Also the seats are soft and comfy like a cloud. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
>>945742
>>945998
Should've mentioned: That's VIA 14, The Ocean, leaving Halifax for Montreal. Took that train to Quebec city in February. 17 Hours from Halifax to Sainte-Foy station. Fun as fuck, though, because I had a few friends with me. I remember I was in the first car behind the baggage car, my seat would have been in the third window on that car, it can be seen in my pic above.
>>945999
I want to ride a 17 hour train ride. I doubt such a thing even exists here
>>945999
I'll also mention that they were using one hell of a longass consist. The Ocean is usually around 24 cars long, with a stainless dome car on the end.
>>946001
If you have a bunch of friends and a car to yourself, (Or with the rest filled in by college students, like I did), you'll have a shitload of fun. If not, you might find it a little tedious, but it depends on the person.
>>945912
I'd rate the 375's as decent, most of the bombardier stock in the SE are the best we have to offer as far as commuter rail goes IMO.
The air con on the javs could be considered cold in as far as it works properly and the trains are nice and cool, but noisy, windy and motion sickness inducing? Nah, I don't think so, ditto the electrostars desu senpai.
>>945906
>The smaller railway enterprises are usually much more reliable and the stuff is so much more friendly.
You're still at the mercy of DB Netz and their piss poor maintenance record though. Who was the idiot ho decided to let DB buy up half of Europe's freight network while their network collapsed in from deferred maintenance?
>>945927
Class 395 Javelin goes fast, is pointy, and has blue exterior/interior. Class 375s are flat and were white with yellow doors, blue seats and orange poles.
>>946013
I really dislike the pre refurb class 375s. Poor airflow and dirty interiors. Since the late 2015 refurbs they are much better.
I always loved this one.
here's a cabview video: https://youtu.be/k7G6Q6iU2bU
I really like the MBTA Boston to Newburyport line.
>>946153
Not the Newburyport line in that pic, but I live right next to the Newburyport/Rockport lines. Can't wait until the N/S Rail Link is finally started and finished
>>946153
>electrified
>still using diesel engines
As long as you stay away from the toilets, they make decent interurban commuter trains
>aircon that works
>carpet
>flippy seats
>>946116
They're being scrapped, though.
>>946242
I know. Most of them are gone.
These run along my local route along with Class 158s. I always smile when I find I'm riding in one of these because 158s suck.
>>946253
What line, anon?
>>946253
went on a 158 when i last went to my sisters, it was a nice change to a 153 which feels like a shed on wheels.
my old commute
SkyTrain in Vancouver BC Canada
I'd love to ride this one. Sadly it was pretty much a failed concept
>>946743
Is pretty close and great to commute in.
Slow as fuck (that's Romanian rail infrastructure for ya) but during the night, especially since I don't sleep is top tier.
>>946236
Yeah I've ridden in these from Central to Newcastle and again to Wentworth Falls.
Can confirm, old but comfy.
Dusseldorf to Berlin.
Best train ever....I love ICE.
Winter, "siberian wolf" and old blue express carriages.
cozy
Love travelling on it, especially in first class. Linz to vienna
Saw a TGV Duplex today. I wonder how it is to commute by TGV. A lot more crammed than the ICE from what I've heard.
>>947158
I've never been on the ICE, but I've taken a couple of trips on this, which is an "AGV 575" - I'm no trainfag, so I dunno what to say about the train itself, but the trip was comfortable and fast.

>>946743
Some east german branch lines run them still.
>>946796
Lacks the comfy front seat view though.
>>946743
That looks cool as fuck, but also seems a pretty dumb concept. If you have a low-traffic line, you don't need double-deck cars, since you can just couple to single-deck cars together. And if demand is low at times, you can just run one single-deck car, but with the double deck car you'll be still carrying that extra weight even if demand is low.
>>947529
>since you can just couple to single-deck cars together.
that's the point of anything double-decked (buses, trains, planes, whatever). You have the capacity of nearly 2 single-deckers while you take care only of one car, 2 cars = 2 times the expenses for their maintenance
>>947529
shorter trains = shorter stations
>>947154
>Love travelling on it,
Meh. Most uncomfortable seats in a high end train ever. Also, why bother having the fastest "traditional" train, when you dont have any tracks to run it at anything resembling speed? Graz to Vienna is a nightmare.
>especially in first class
Oh, ok, maybe its better in first, but 2nd (or rather "economy") has shitty seats. Also, only "Großraumwagen"
>>947192
>The taurus is one sexy beast
But yeah, that machine is sexy.
Personal favorite:
There are still some backup IC's in Germany, where they just use really old first-class rolling stock with a new painting. Plushy, springy chairs, where you can just turn the whole compartment into a large bed. Totally comfy, and way better than the modern ones.

to be fair, when 90% of your rail journeys are on a class 142s with original seating, class 150/156s feel like flying 1st class with Emirates
Ticket only costs 7 bucks to get the hell out of Baltimore and go visit Obama in Washington.
>>948489
where i live, all class 150's have been replaced by Class 37's with a DBSO
i wonder if this will become widespread soon since Class 37's are no match for freight with class 60's and 66's shitting on them
>>948507
DBSO?
>>948507
i hope so but i doubt it, id love to see 37s on the local lines again here just like they had on the club trains in the early 90s

>>948544

>two locomotives for four cars
what
>>948554
I think its to increase reliability or speed, or to do with needing to go back and forth on one line
they were built for freight back in the 60's so it can't be to do with needing more power, 4 cars for a class 37 would be like hauling feathers
>>948568
"top n tail" always looks great
>>945746
took that bitch from la to seattle. its a nice train, but i would need to get a room next time. that bitch was cramped
>>948633
No, you took the Coast Starlight, which is similar but not quite the same. That's the Capitol Corridor. It doesn't have private rooms or an observation car.
>>948568
Aren't some of them cab-only locos with the prime mover taken out?
>>948661
Nope, they only run with one loco now, the DBSO mentioned earlier is on the other end now. It's a passenger carriage with driving controls at one end. They ran with two locos initially as the DBSOs were being refurbished.
These are rarely full and comfy af
>>948458

Semmering-Basistunnel much?
Seats even in Economy are better than the old Eurofima coaches. Also you have power outlets in the Railjet.
Ski resort in New Hampshire runs this narrow gauge steamer (from Germany?) to take skiers to and from the base.
Extra comfy... if you don't mind getting covered in coal dust.
>>948554
Lack of multiple units in UK due to fucked up franchise system
>>948554
You have to think about is so that these locos and old carriages have already amortised their acquirement loans in 40 years of freight/main line passenger service, so what they are doing now is incredibly cheap as far as equipment is concerned.
>>946169
this sucks
MTA is switching to all-diesel and tossing the AEM-7s and HHP-8s because having all the same locos saves money on maintenance. The Northeast Corridor shouldn't be tarnished by loud, slow diesels.

Posting this one in Tampa, because it's the only form of rail transit besides the Amtrak line going to Orlando that gets you from place-to-place and not in a theme park.
>>949284
I heard of that train at Loon Mountain (yes, it's German and it was built in 1934, so there are probably engraved swastikas on some of the internal components).
One of the resort activities you can sign up for is to be a train engineer for a day and learn how to drive it.
I sure do love the Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line in Boston, that amazing HERITAGE line run by the MBTA. Look at this beautiful HERITAGE rail vehicle they use. It's the only type of vehicle running on the line, and having them does a really great job of preserving the line's HERITAGE. It's actually a very rare example of a non-street-running light rail system in the USA to use HERITAGE equipment.
>>951651
You seriously think railjets are more comfy than that?
>>951666
Did you ride it?
I think if I'm ever going to visit london I'd really nlike to go by Eurostar. But I guess it's probably expensive as fuck.

Also one of these. Queensland Rail might be utter shit but as long as you stay away from where the pantograph is, they have soft seats, a smooth ride, soft lighting and carpet

Using a public (or even hotel) washlet is one of those things you think about for a while. The spray head might clean itself but during its lifetime, at least one person has taken a shit on it

Those plushy, ultraspringy seats…
However, in summer they become fucking hot and/or deafeningly loud, when you open the windows.
But on the other hand, the seating arangement allows for the occasional pantie peek, so I guess its quite OK.

25 kV AC EMU, serving Paris Saint-Lazare railway station (western area, mainly communter trains) since 1976. Has an unique sound, the seats are pretty comfy, large windows and the ride is smooth considering the age of the train.

>>953882
>all pantographs raised
why
>>949684
>>953973
Depending on architecture, it may be one pantograph per motor car, or even one per motor bogie
>>953882
In france is usual to rise both pantographs while braking or starting to move. This let the train take/give more energy from/to the catenary
Pic related, or any Turbostar/clubman pretty much. They're comfy and pretty quiet

This.
>>954034
Most older trains tend to have one pantograph per motor car while newer train just have one pantograph for the whole train (well in France most of them have two pantographs, one for 1.5 kV DC and one for 25 kV AC).
