Got this yesterday after my dad cleaned it up. He found it covered in mud in a ditch next to a railway

I'm just using it as an exercise bike, but it's probably worth a mint

Can anyone recommend a good set of fenders? I'm thinking about picking up a set of Honjo fenders, either smooth or hammered but are they worth spending $100 more than on the Velo Orange fenders?

skip the VO or Honjos - given the graphics and vintage of your bike something simple like a black plastic full fender would be more appropriate. i like the zefal paragon ones from nashbar - nice and wide 45mm and pretty much bulletproof, about 25 bucks also.

>>945128
That's an interesting bike. Did it originally come with drop bars? Did you convert it to 700c from 26"?

I know it's heresy but I think plastic fenders are better than metal. Plastic = lighter = less rattling. And I've broken more metal fenders than plastic, somehow.

>>
>>945499
pedal one way and you go forward, pedal the other and you go forward. not that complex.

actually, it probably has something to do with, like most retro DIYs, two freewheels threaded together (a bottom bracket cup as a coupler) and onto the wheel threads. so you need, one dicta brand freewheel, one bb cup, one freewheel hub/wheel, one whatever freewheel and some way to keep chain tension.

It certainly looks like it's retro-direct, the wiki shows a nice color coded picture to wrap your head around it. Just follow how the chain would go around the gears and you should get it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-direct

Here's someone dudes blog about making one I found a while back that made me want to build one too.

http://kentsbike.blogspot.ca/2008/11/building-retro-direct-drive-bicycle.html
>>
>>945504
probably should have pointed out the reason for the Dicta. You need to thread one freewheel on backwards, and to my knowledge the dicta is the only brand wheel you can do this with. so you are always coasting on one freewheel, but backpedaling engages the second freewheel.
>>
>>945160
Take a new pic please!

Yes, it is a retro direct, backward=low gear, forward=high gear. The other anons explained it well.

2 Shimano freewheels (22t and 16t), a non-drive side BB cup to link them, threaded on to an old school freewheel hub.
>>
>>945507
Wrong. Both freewheels are on the right way. Only Dicta or Shimano will work because the threads on them go all the way through.
>>
>>945576

Just removed the 7700 groupset that she came with 16 years ago and rebuilt with 9000+EEcycleworks brakes. Chris King hubs. Original fork was replaced a few years ago after I destroyed it in a crash. Took some doing since it was a 1.5 to 1.0 tapered steer tube and there wasn't room for a smaller bearing in the upper integrated race. I had a shim custom tooled so I could fit an external headset up top and that made a modern tapered fork feasible.

>>
>>946041
>>946042

Cable housings are Alligator I-Link. I've set them up on a couple other bikes so I'm comfortable working with them. Saddle is a S-works toupe, post is thomson masterpiece, bars Easton SLX.

The 7700 was beat up and I had gotten tired of the effort it takes to find lightly used or NoS replacements. Plus this is a workbike, so it sees plenty of use//abuse.
>>
>>946039

i'm italian actually so i like to have as many italian parts possible on a bike.

the stem is angled that way because the mecanic who sold me the bike tought it was my first road bike, and he wanted to let me get used to the position on the bike.

i'm going to change the stem soon.
even though i have to admit it's quite comfy this way.

the bikes get a bad rap because of people like him, like you know his bike is going to be shit right?

so since he calls his bike a mini-velo anyone who rides it for a minute will call all mini velos crap since they have "plenty of experience with one"

despite his bike not having a single thing in common with a mini velo

the 20" wheels aren't even interchangable, he'd have to bend his dropouts 15mm to use real mini velo wheels

First impressions on the tires for anyone interested:
1. they're marked 24mm, but on OP rims they actually measure 22.3mm.
2. On dry pavement and dry gravel they feel just like a 23mm GP4000 or Veloflex Master. They're fast tires, I'm looking forward to seeing how they wear.
