No plans to bring back the drops anytime soon. The guys from my shop that used to do longer rides with have moved on to DH and Freeride, so I'm mostly just scooting around town now.

>The guys from my shop that used to do longer rides with have moved on to DH and Freeride, so I'm mostly just scooting around town now.
Fair enough. Risers are plenty for going around town.

Definitely look into getting a front rack or basket. It's liberating for grocery runs and general errands.

Is the green tape stuff on the rear rack to keep the pannier from wearing through the tubing?
>>

Man if a set wouldn't cost like $150 for me I'd be all over those. I've been lusting over those Barlow Pass tires for ages.

Panniers are no problem for these racks. I used to have a metal basket there though. It would rattle and that may scratch the nickel plating, which would expose the steel to rust.

My new project, a Benotto 3000 like Francesco Moser's bike in A Sunday in Hell. What do you think?
>>
>>903463
Honestly it looks like a pretty average race bike frame, nothing particularly distinctive at a glance. What tubing is it made of?
>>
>>903465
Columbus SL. It was made around '83. Pretty light 1900 g just the grame. Yeah it ain't that impressive but I got the frame in a pretty bad condition and decided to restore it.
>>
>>903463
is the top tube dented just a little left of the clamp? also looks like the whole top tube is bowed, but that may be an optical illusion and or I might be drinking.

True, I have a number of problems with the bike but somehow I still love it.

I bought pretty much as a frameset from a friend so I was able to build it my way. The stock version is shit. I believe this is the 2014 tricross comp which is equipped with shit.

-I get insane toe overlap, even without fenders. Like, what the actual fuck? It's a fucking touring/commuter/cross bike. fuck off specialized.

-The bottom bracket is way too high. I don't feel "grounded" when I ride. It doesn't inspire confidence. Add some big squishy tires and you have a recipe for eating shit.

-Headtube height was an issue, I rad to replace the original headset cover with something lower because the original is something like 2 inches tall. lol no

-Aluminum fork lol not even once. I plan on replacing the fork with a long haul trucker fork or something that widens the wheel base a little bit. Anyone know the best way to do this? Hopefully moving the front wheel forward would lower the BB, which lowers the headtube, and takes care of some toe overlap.

That being said this bike is a fucking tank, it's been hit by any number of cars and still rides true.

I'll tell the more exciting one first

blow through about three stop signs in a row bombing a hill, passing a couple of cars, over the speed limit

hear a siren fire up

figure whatever i'm on a bike they don't pull over bikes

keep bombing

still hearing the siren, then over his speaker he says 'will the man on the bike please pull over immediately'

and oh shit oh shit oh shit either i take a ticket i can't afford to pay or risk a felony

risk a felony obviously

don't look behind me or acknowledge him, fucking book it

turn onto a high traffic four lane road and head towards the nearest intersection

i can shoot through traffic, he has to siren and wait to pass

make it through two major intersections somehow not causing any accidents or dying

he can still see me

grab onto a car and skitch to the next intersection

make a right at speed but then slow way down and duck into a garage for a second

watch him drive by, head the opposite direction, a couple of cagers yell at me that the police officer was chasing me and i'm a bad person or whatever

hide again, take off my helmet and sweatshirt and put them in my backpack, wait for a bit

finish the rest of my ride and head home

The bike feels dated. Because the previous owner kept it well conditioned under 10 rides, but he messed up the front wheelset and the fork also. Got them replaced ASAP. The fork now is a 2004 fox talas rlc.

Can you even have a front rack with shocks? Can totally see having a suspension touring bike on S. American roads, but fenders and lights might be good too. That tour would be way too much for me on a motorcycle!

Not that guy, but yes. They are the only real bike lights: throw out just enough light in all the right places whenever you need it. Recharging a flashlight overnight and strapping it to your handlebar is just kinda weak in comparison.

>w2c front racks like these, also would they work with a normal rim brake front?
Just about anywhere, and yes. Big rack on the rando is a VO Porteur rack, the rack on the rat is some cheapo random one I got used and ziptied a basket to.

>>904237
>Wow, clean! Doubt it was like that when it left the factory. Did you switch from canties to V-brake? Take off that spacer.
I did switch to the mini-Vs, the cantis that were on it absolutely sucked so I made the switch.

I'll take it off eventually. If I recall there was some form of retention that wouldn't allow it to come off. I was pretty pissed at the time and said fuck it.

I'm assuming that's a round-beam rechargeable flashlight, pointed way down to avoid dazzling oncomers. That works, but not as well as a cut-off light with a beam shape that puts light right where you need it.

Ah, I understand. It's a rechargeable flashlight, but it's only pointed down because that's where it ended up before I went on my ride. The sun hadnt set when I took that pic.

I googled what you were talking about and I'm definitely interested in a proper cutoff light, but it sounds like that's not terribly common in the states. If I had more money to throw at a new light, or if blinding people were a more common problem for me, I'd replace it. I originally purchased it for mountain biking at night, but when riding the local paved trails at night, I rarely encounter people. Definitely something I'll be more mindful of though, thanks for the feedback.
>>
>>904812

I have ridden this set up for four hours no problem.

I have very long limbs and a short torso. It makes fit hard. The best I can figure is a zero setback post, 58 cm to tube... And a seat post level of a 64cm bike

These bars are too low though. I'm gonna replace the fork so I get more stack height a

like offroading trails or anything? not at the moment. It used ot be set up for rougher terrain but it's (obviously) become more of a dedicated commuter. I also use it to try out different setups and stuff, which is why the fit looks so wacky and it's only got a single chainring, but i've managed to pretty much fine tune it into something i can ride for hours at a time with little to no discomfort at all. The only thing i need to change about it now is just getting a suspension corrected fork because the one on there is pretty much shot. It was fairly long into it's life when i got it anyways

Bottom RD knuckle is garbon.

>trying to give an online bike fit for someone you've never even seen

or maybe he just has long legs and short arms

oh and I forgot to add, nice bike senpai
>>
>>906493
I just can't deal with a larger stem backwise, thats it. Of course, Internet Wisdom can't deal with it and would disagree, but as long as i feel comfortable and have fun while riding..

Won this thing at a race yesterday.
>>
>>906876

Seriously? Nice. What race? What's your bike?
>>
>>906881
It was a Mash/Cinelli race. Pretty fun, a mix between an alleycat and a regular race. All on open roads. Finished first. Got the bike plus some oakleys and other goodies.

Nah
>>
>>906885
Yeah, who'd want a free probably $4000 bike?

Damn dude, I had the same issue with my old Judy XC fork. It won't spring back up. Tell me what you needed when you get it fixed so I can maybe put my back into service. Rather than fixing mine I just said fuck it and bought a brand new fork as you can see in >>906920

fuck I'm an idiot, didn't even see where you said you'd replaced it already

Here's my winter beater bike for the 2015-16 season. I dislike the frame but it will work until March, the wacky cockpit setup actually works quite well, and I'm riding studded tires for the first time, they work as advertised but are overkill for average winter conditions where I live.

>>906920
I know we've seen this before but it's still cool, did you get front brakes yet?
>>
>>906928
You dislike that frame? I personally think Panasonic frames are beautiful

>did you get front brakes yet?

Well I've had the brakes but I need to get a hanger that attaches to the headset to actually put them on. The hanger's cheap, it's just that I always forget and remember when it's too late.

>>906898
Not him but what about that bike is $4000 worth?

Probably stupid question but it looks at least like a fairly unremarkable Al track bike?
>>
>>906955
The part where he didn't actually win that yesterday, because no one would give one out as a prize with those parts.
>>
>>906960
The frame+fork combos they have on the website are all under 1k.
>>
>>906964
Thinking about it from that perspective, I suppose if it didn't have mismatching wheels (that rear one's set is ~$700 or so new apparently) and a double-sided power meter you COULD push the retail value of a bike like that to $4000.
>>
>>906960
>Cinelli mash frames are like 2k USD as far as I know.
Nope.

Slight update.

VO Pass Hunter rack w/ random basket.
40:20 for a breezy 2:1 ratio.
Platforms
Massive mudflap.

>>909629
I love this build, but the mudflap size is a bit much
>>
