Pretty much. My hands stay on the grips close to the stem most of the time because my arms act more like a spring there, resucine vibrations to my head, plus it's easier to duck down into a flat-bar-tuck when I need to sprint for a traffic light or get a head wind.

>>894240
Thanx, and you're right, they are pretty short. Perfectly placed for my two-finger braking when my hands are on those grip which is only at intersections.

this has become a curse for me, this (>>894189) is my cockpit and the bars are only 32 cm across at the widest. it's the best setup ive had but everytime i get on a bike thats wider i feel like im splaying my arms open to give someone a hug and i feel really clumsy. Ive also got really short levers that fit perfectly (lengthwise, pardon the cracked braces/arms) on those little bar ends

I feel the same way when I use the grips on end of the bar. The steering feels awkward and I alway think I'm going to smash my hands on a car side mirror even when I'm a few feet away.
Also, when I'm tucked in using the grips near the stem I amuse myself by pretending that the ergo grips on the end are like plane wings and if I go fast enough I might take off. haha

>>894327
>K-edge?
Nah, I made that myself using a bunch of different parts from other mounts. The part on the bar holding the Garmin is the mount that came with the Garmin. The bit screwed directly into that is part of a reflector mount. The part attached to that, and holding the light, is a mini pump mount (SKS Piccolo) that's supposed to go on the seat tube under the bottle cage.
I'm pretty pleased with it. It's aesthetically pleasing having the light in the center and I'm sure it improves my side visibility from motorists because when the light was on the bar using it's own mount I flet like it was being abscured by my hands on the hoods. Where it is now it's much further forward and a bit lower so only the brake lever could hide it from being seen from the side.

Hit a pretty shallow puddle. Looked like the path was just wet, but it was actually a little muddy. I was going about 19 mph when I hit it and my front wheel shot out immediately.

The right side of the bike fell, scraped up the shifter pretty good and pushed it in like you see in the picture. Both feet came unclipped and the bike tumbled and the left shifter got pushed in as well, but i was able to twist that one back into place. Pedal is scraped, mud packed into my rear derailleur, both shifters are scraped, but mechanically everything seems fine.

I slapped my head against the ground, scraped up my forearm, shoulder and knee. Helmet saved me from a much less fun injury. My wife was with me, and she crashed trying not to hit me. She wasn't wearing her helmet, but she landed in the muddy grass next to the trail. Hit her head on the ground pretty good, but nothing bad.

sorry for the blogpost

I've been nagging her about it for weeks, she wouldn't wear it. She's got one already, and she cleaned it up shortly after we made it home. A few hours later, my neck is really sore from my head bouncing off the ground. Wouldn't want my soft melon doing the bouncing, glad I had the helmet.

>>895027
>I've been nagging her about it for weeks, she wouldn't wear it
She's an adult (I hope). Let her make her own decisions.

>my neck is really sore from my head bouncing off the ground
Probably due to the helmet.
>>
>>895128
>Seems unlikely, given that your wife was fine.
Well, she landed in the grass on the soft and wet ground. I hit my head on the concrete. Hitting my head on concrete seems less pleasant than padded styrofoam, but you might be right.

>She's an adult (I hope). Let her make her own decisions.
I agree but she's a bit clumsy. I worry and I'd blame myself if she did hit her head and a helmet could have helped. She does make her own decisions, which is why she doesn't wear a helmet when she rides.

>Probably due to the helmet.
Maybe. I had the same issue when I got in a car accident. My big melon head bounced around, and I had similar soreness. Maybe it's from tensing up, or maybe it's from over-extending the muscle.

I take it you're not a supporter of helmets sir?

i really like your cockpit but i fail at humour. what does the red thing do? I'm pretty sure that the 510 is already waterproof so i can't think of a practical reason for it other than to match red decals on the bike? extra shock proofing maybe?

I wear them when I go for a ride with the intent of reaching the limits of my abilities or my equipment's capabilities.

I object to them being promoted as either a necessary or sufficient requirement for safe cycling generally.

>>898849
Not necessarily. It depends on the design of helmet as well as the nature of the impact.
>>
>>898889
I don't even understand how you can fall like that.
>>
>>898889
It's law to wear a helmet here so no one cares really.

If you get into and accident and aren't wearing a helmet, is there a difference in liabiity in Burgerland?
>>
>>898901
Legally, there is not a difference in liability.

Morally, there is.
>>
>>898902
Fair enough, but moral liability means nothing legally.

The main downside I see to not wearing helmets is that if you get cleaned up by a car and a helmet could have saved your life, the driver still has to live with the trauma of having killed someone. Not wearing a helmet affects more than just yourself.

>>899330
Yep...tricycle Q-200 (bigger engine). The handling in general is...quirky. Ailerons (on rear wing) feel normal, but elevator (on canard) is very sensitive. Lands a bit hot, I basically fly it onto the runway with little flare. Never noticed anything different about handling in the rain - I think the earlier airfoil would've changed the pitch when it gets wet, but mine is the "good" one. Also, I dont trust the original configuration at all (landing gear on wingtips). That was a runway spinout waiting to happen, and wings should not double as shock-absorbers.
>>
>>899384
>wings should not double as shock-absorbers.

Without crunching the numbers, I strongly suspect that they're under way more load during any sort of maneuver (e.g. banking) than they ever would be on landing.

Still...

"Experimental" is just a legal category for aircraft...not an accurate description of their use. Basically it means they are built in a non-standard way. In the case of my Q2, its a homebuilt, from a kit. The experiments I do with it are adding cool shit & trying to overload my brain's pleasure centers. Now making a HUD to display data from smartphone. Then gonna change the prop....maybe someday add an autopilot connected to an EEG so I can turn just by thinking about it. Experimental category gives you a lot of freedom to try many things with your plane, except flying them for pay.
