Not strictly a mini velo, but smaller than your typical road bike (22" wheels). It's fun to ride, light and manoeuvrable.

Issues you might run into are gearing (smaller wheels = lower gearing) so don't expect to be able to go as fast as a bike with bigger wheels. Then there's ground clearance, my pedals and crank arms have plenty of scrapes either from riding too close to curbs or not lifting the pedal enough whilst cornering.
>>
What's the advantage of a mini Vélo vs à folding bike ? Aside from stiffness and geometry maybe ? Then again nothing stops a folding bike from being well designed with good geometry.
>>
>>892177
I suppose it could be viewed as a half assed compromise between the two. A shopkeeper who might object to a full size bike in the aisles might not say anything if it's a mini velo. Or on a moderately full train, where a regular bike would be a no-go, it might work with a minivelo.

Plus a mini velo can be made at a lower cost than a folder, since it's less complex.
>>
is mini velo a brand name or just a style? what does it refer to specifically, just any bike with small wheels? I've seen bikes like the one in OP before, look like a lot of fun to fuck around on.
>>
>>892180
They're stiffer, lighter, and the make particularly good front loading delivery bikes because of the small front wheel.

They also make a 5'2" manlet feel like a 6'8" master race
>>
>>892096
I bet it kills the knees.

...no

>>
>>892389
Why would it? It's possible to get the fit to be the same as a full size bike.
>>
>>892338
it's a style, they have small wheels/wheelbase but handle similar to conventional frame geometry
>>
how about a sexy moulton?
>>
>>892115
22"? I work in a lbs and have never seen this. You a europoor?
>>
>>893201
I'm British, I believe the bike is a Peugeot so French. The tyre width is in decimal and not fractional inches which I think is more of a European thing, however it's not a French size (closest would be 500A). It's also the same size as some wheelchairs, probably the only reason it's still possible to get tyres for it.

Sheldon Brown just lists it as a juvenile tyre size, no other info on it.

I'm not sure why I like mini velos i kinda just do. I think they'd be fun for short rides as a look at me bike. Does anyone have any experience building/ riding one?
>>

Probably one harsh ride. Probably like riding a pogo stick, with no spring

I do have experience riding a folding bike with 16 inch wheels. It was twitchy when steering and wasn't really fast but it looked nice that's why I wanted it. The bike on your picture would be way faster for sure so that might be totally different experience.

Anway, I will get the Vanmoof T tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how those 20 inch wheel will ride.

I noticed a lot of the frames have this geometry with a long head tube. Is this the only option in terms of frame? Perhaps a track frame?

>>
>>895081
why would you hit the ground with your cranks the BB is at the same height as a normal road bike.
>>
>>895270
electric front hub with torque sensing pedal assist would be a better option
>>
>>895294
It's not. There's almost 3.5 inches of difference in axle height for the OP bike compared to a regular road bike.I decided to look up some geometries and even though a Soma has more BB rise than a regular road bike (which actually has drop) there's still just over a 2cm difference between it and a Cube Peleton Pro.

Now, it's not a huge difference but it is there, and you could go for shorter crank arms to compensate. It's not as bad as the other guy was saying if the bike has a freewheel, but a fixed gear would just be idiotic.

'68 schwinn runabout. 16" wheels with AS 3 speed. Almost as good as a coaster 20"

>>
>>892096
I've been using my uncle's vintage Schwinn Sting Ray just to shit around. It's suprisingly comfy, even though the foam in the old banana seat is over 30 years old now. I recently took the Wald Pizza Rack from my beah cruiser and threw it on the front just for shits...it fits! I'm now sincerely considering replacing the 1-speed coaster brake with a freewheel drum brake hub and throwing on a 5-speed freewheel and bolt-on derailer, and using it for recreation and short errands.

In short, sissy bar and banana seat is actually bretty cozy for longer rides. Try it!
>>
>>897314
How tall can banana seats usually go?
Are they sized like a children's bike, fit wise?
>>
>>897390
In my case, the original seat post was ridiculously long (15 inches), so the only new part I needed to get the seat high enough was a longer sissy bar. Make sure to get the type with clamps so you can adjust the height to your needs. Otherwise, I only issue I have with the frame is that it is not drilled for caliper brakes; hub brakes are the only option. Then again, those types of brakes take abuse MUCH better, so I don't mind.

got this last month, picked it up super cheap, tempted to put bmx bars on it, im tall but i can get the seat hight right but its bars are too low and forward, bmx bars would solve my problems, i want something narrow for busy streets! going from my ss to this is fucking bizarre,
>>
>>898061
Go with some risers and a shorter stem, bit of backsweep could help too. BMX bars will be far too high and a pain in the arse as you'll also need a BMX stem and longer brake hoses.
>>
>>897594
>three speed coaster
Kiddu Modo. I already have a leftover Shimano 5-speed freewheel, Suntour Hero derailer, and Suntour power thumb shifter from an '87 Schwinn cruiser. That combo was a joy to tool around with, and the parts functionally have zero wear. I'm going to get a freewheel threaded rear drum, and possibly a front drum too. No pictures as of this moment, but it's rough as hell. I currently have it half-assed back together again just to tool around on until I have all the requisite pieces together. Once I'm done, I'm going to keep driving it, and likely use it for short-range errands and pleasure cruises.Yours looks nice too, but I notice you're missing the s-7 front rim. Was it bent or missing? Or did the bike come from the factory with the same rims front and rear?
>>
yeah i guess so, im just trying to find a good set of risers that have enough backsweep but arnt super wide, brakes arnt a problem, i can recable super easy, altho i am tempted to get a long hydraulic set off ebay when i have the cash

It was a close second choice but I preferred the sturdier frame of the Vanmoof T. I might still get a Brompton one day.

That sounds like sweet set up.
Yeah the factory rims were s-5 on both as opposed to the far s-2 rear and a middleweight s-7 front since it was considered the sportier version of the stingrays. Post pictures when you can.

Yo. Gonna be using it for short-range errands and shitting around. Front hub grinds and needs to be replaced; I will be replacing with a hub gear of some kind. I will be switching the rear hub as well to a freewheel design to use some leftover parts, also possibly with a hub brake if I can. Needs a new seat too. Both rims were dented as well; my autismo shutin cousin decided to re-enact his favorite GMod video on this bike when it was still sitting on ruined 60's tires, and without a sissy bar attached. He weighs 200 pounds, by the way. He will never live that idiocy down, I swear to god.

It's torn to shit from the vinyl shrinking. If you want it, though, you can have it. You anywhere in Illinois? Wanna cover shipping costs, if you aren't? I really want to keep using this bike, so I'll be getting a new seat and either trashing the old one or giving it away.
