It's amazing, nothing compares to it. There are hundreds of miles of paved bicycle trails. There are lots of other cyclists out, giving it that cyclist city feel. There are dozens of bike shops, occasionally even a shop that is only accessible from the bike trail, not the death cage road. There are bike lanes on lots of streets, some are even designated bicycle boulevards. There are so many cyclists -- thousands out at any one time during the summer -- that drivers are very aware of us, and since they realize that stopping and then accelerating from a standstill can be...

Love,

OP here and I was actually referring to the Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro as a whole. Saint Paul is great, some of my favorite places to cycle are in Saint Paul.
>>933847
Btw, one of the places I mentioned (where a bike trail goes between a railroad and a river of barges) is in Saint Paul, pic related. I love that stretch.

Who else is reading the Scarborough transit and LRT proposal tonight?
Major transit happenings in Toronto recently. Excited to see what units they'll be running on smarttrack too

But, but, what about the existing SRT line?
You know, the one that's an automatic maglev ... except it's a really special one with the added feature of drivers, and cars that touch the tracks.
>>916541
the whole point of smart track was to use existing space used for the go train system and integrate it with the TTC. by 2017, it'll probably cost $3.50 to get on the bus and you'll have to use a presto card. Ellesmere, midland, and mccowan stations are nearly ghost towns. The LRT is going to be a much needed relief for anyone who's tried travelling all the way across Eglinton on a packed bus

So NASA is holding an airship design and construction competition.
The prizes are:
Award 1-- A proposed $1.0M will be split between teams successfully completing Tier 1 within 3 years of the challenge initiation. A possible scenario for splitting the Tier 1 prize money is 4 prizes of $500k, $250k, $125k and $125k, starting from the first to demonstrate to the fourth.
Award 2: A proposed $1.5M will be awarded to the first successful demonstration of Tier 2 within four years of challenge initiation.

I just want to say I hate every one of you low balling tire kicking flakes that have nothing better to do than waste people's time.

Winter beater Bianchi Bobcat. I pulled the frame off a trash pile a couple years back and built it with parts I had hanging around. Only spent $5 on replacement bottom bracket bearings.

Are electric bikes, used non-competitively, cheating?
>>934065
no, but they're no fun
>>934066
What about if you derestrict them?
>mfw I frequently go to a hill nearby to climb and there's a group of faggots on electric bikes going up and down it
For what purpose

Enjoy your mud covered ass and worn out drivetrain & brakes
Why does everyone on /n/ ride with gloves? Do you really crash that often? If so, maybe you should just drive instead. Honestly, I ride every day and barely ever crash.
I'm shaking my head with disdain right now.
It's still cold here so I ride with full gloves just to keep my hands warm.
When it gets warmer I switch to the fingerless gloves because my hands start aching after around 10kms from rubbing on the hoods sometimes. Sometimes not though. No idea what the problem is there.
But yeah: sometimes my hands hurt so I wear gloves. If I don't wear gloves my hands are sometimes fine and sometimes not. So I prefer the gloves.

I live in a warm climate and have calysts on both of my hands in between my thumb and index fingers from the hoodz

The struggle is real.
If there was a zombie apocalypse would you ride a bicycle?
Depends on how far I have a travel, how much food I have and how much noise I can make before attracting anyone.
I'd probably only ride a bike if I'm away from society.
I would.
A bike with
> Steel frame
> massive spoke count
> All loose ball-bearings for easy service
> V-brakes
> Full touring racks and fenders
> Low SS gearing
> MTB levers - no need to hunt for degraded bar tape
You'll have to take the tires, chains, and cables as you go.
I'd consider:
> 26" if you're cross continents
> multiple brake options. Run disc and V-brakes, one breaks? Run cable to the other option.
> Run with gears, friction thumb shifters. Carry ss cog for inevitable break-down
Cycling horror stories?
Every time I end up taking a shit on the side of the road. Agonizing cramps leading up to it, then spend rest of the ride worrying it might happen again.
Can't say I've ever had any horrors - just the occasional shameful/painful moment that involved bleeding profusely or calling a family member to ask for a ride after bonking a long ways from home.

just replace your broken stuff. jeez, man.
>Also, what are the best and most creative anti theft tips you guys know of?
big, heavy chain with a big, heavy padlock. i'm talking about industrial 7/8 or larger big 'ol fuck-you steel chain and a padlock the side of your fist. simply seeing that acts as a deterrent to most bike thieves. they're not even going to try if it looks like it isn't worth the effort.
Alright /n/, you all remember how those little Beyblade things seemingly had endless power so how about this. A man powered vehicle propelled by a rip cord to spin the wheels.
Yay or Nay?

What sort of logistics would I need to plan, to be able to walk from the southern east coast to the northern west coast?
Yes, this is transportation, because walking can take you from point A to point B.
