France is a french drone unit composed of drums, bass, and amplified hurdy gurdy. you will find here a one hour plus trance like impro, based on rhythmic repetitions and subtle variations of the hurdy gurdy line. the band is a thrilling experience to witness live (although I don't think they do a lot of shows). intended to be listened to at a very loud volume (Swans live shows kind of high volume)

I don't think there's any need of presenting Tangerine dream, but maybe the Tangerine tree deserves it : it was a project whose purpose was to find and make available for free every Tangerine dream shows recorded (and there were a lot). sadly, the project has been cancelled in 2006 due to legal problems, and the files are harded to find now. this one has been recorded in 1976, and is an excellent example of the band's ability to improvise some insanely good synth frescos that work either as relaxation or tripping music. on the second one, Froese picks up guitar, and adds a more krautrock sound to the mix

too bad they have been banned from ever playing again in a christian church because needles and crap has been found in the cathedral after the show (the building even had to be consecrated again)

you can get it as 1 track on the bandcamp too, they split it in multiple parts so they could release it on LP (but as the track has been improvised as a whole, I don't want it to get cut, especially since they added some fade out / fade in at the beginning and the end of the splitted parts)

and one last german album before hitting jazz world. Barney Wilen (of whom we will talk about later) is a french sax player that made everything from hard bop in the beginning of the '60s to free jazz with african people (if you're interested in this, check out his album Moshi). here he made a psych record that sounds a lot like the stuff the krautrock scene has produced in the '70s, except it has been made in 1968, making it some kind of precursor

Everyone in is about 25yo, but damn are they good (for example I saw the double bassist playing with Archie Shepp this year, and he's fucking 23, way to be jealous). expect some strong post bop, and keep an eye on them, because they will more than certainly get better with the years and the training

Recorded on quarter inch reel to reel tape in 1971, this was never released. Apparently the front of the box showed an infant being orally abused by an adult female with the image lifted from some Danish magazine. If I haven't lost you already, this is a really great and bizarre offering recorded before The Residents officially existed. One of the highlights for me is a crazed hyperactive run through of King Kong from The Mothers Of Invention's "Uncle Meat". This is a glimpse into the things that were to come!
