James Brown - Super bad
http://www37.zippyshare.com/v/26518211/file.html
recorded live in 1971, here goes some great funk / soul like Mr Dynamite knew so well to perform
does anybody have the Hawaii: Part II: Part II ?
(the one with the demos and instrumentals)
i can't find it
James Brown - Hot pants
http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/26109071/file.html
from 1971 too, another great album by king James, who, at the time, was in a flawless row. I took the liberty to delete the original two parts Escape-ism to replace it by the 20mn full version
James Brown - Hot
http://www75.zippyshare.com/v/86881754/file.html
this time from 1975, a bit before he started to lose it with pcp and shit, still some strong stuff going on
Does anyone have Darkside - Psychic? the last mega link has stopped working now.
Pied piper of Funkingham - Pied piper of Funkingham
http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/11145146/file.html
from 1982, this is some crazy good funk going on, I don't understand why this album isn't more known
P-funk all stars - Hydraulic pump
http://www46.zippyshare.com/v/62749934/file.html
a 1983 12" from what will probably stay as the most representative funk band. classic p-funk
Standing room only - Heart and soul
http://www46.zippyshare.com/v/11481882/file.html
pretty rare funk album from 1982 that goes quite high when it comes to boogie, without forgetting to get some quieter but still grooving soul tracks

Wayman Tisdale - The fonk record
http://www10.zippyshare.com/v/39868772/file.html
Tisdale was a basketball player in NBA, and a bass player on some forgettable smooth jazz records. however, he got bone cancer, a leg amputated, and, before dying in 2009, wanted to make a p-funk album in the good old '70s fashion. his dream came true, with participation of George Duke and Georges Clinton, and he delivered here a smoking hot record that will probably fit well with your Parliament / Funkadelic collection
V.A. - Funk fu : fight 1
http://www35.zippyshare.com/v/88453201/file.html
edited by the french label Big cheese records, here is a very solid funk compilation which can introduce you to some great undergroud artists, some of them having only released one or two 45s
last track is pretty fun, a collage of funk sounds and speeches about Superfly being missing and Shaft going after him
im looking for this album (pic)

V.A. - Funk fu : fight 2
http://www23.zippyshare.com/v/99095711/file.html
and here is the second volume of the collection, more handpicked forgotten funk 7"s to get the boogie going on
V.A. - The big cheese
http://www51.zippyshare.com/v/14606293/file.html
and here is a third funk comp, still from Big cheese records, and still grooving high. the fellas knew how to dig crates
V.A. - The get down boogie sound
http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/68345130/file.html
compiled by Dane Rudland, this is a collection of insanely groovy 12" from 1981 to 1983 (often the only ones ever made by the bands presented, and for the first time on cd) that we got here. essential boogie and party going music
unfortunately I have stuff to do now but I'll come back in an hour or two to keep this going with some more funk albums, '70s and modern psych, and a bunch of great french jazz records. see you there

Malka family - Malka on the beach
http://www67.zippyshare.com/v/33752508/file.html
Malka family was pretty active in the '90s french groove scene, and could be easily considered as the french Funkadelic, breaking up in 1997 because the band was too big (about 15 members) to live out of it. this is their first album, with some fonky fresh music inside

Heldon - Live in Nancy
http://www58.zippyshare.com/v/51620390/file.html
recorded in 1979, this recording presents us one of the best psych french units of the '70s, with some heavy enthousiasm for drums, to the point it kind of sounds like drum & bass at times (but idk if it comes from the recording or if it was intended like that)
France - Live at Bourse du travail, Saint-Etienne
http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/79279957/file.html
France is a french drone unit composed of drums, bass, and amplified hurdy gurdy. you will find here a one hour plus trance like impro, based on rhythmic repetitions and subtle variations of the hurdy gurdy line. the band is a thrilling experience to witness live (although I don't think they do a lot of shows). intended to be listened to at a very loud volume (Swans live shows kind of high volume)

Electric Moon - Mind explosion
http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/31169172/file.html
if you enjoy the orbital trip of Yuri Gagarin, you should appreciate the interstellar journeys of Electric Moon, one of the best space rock / heavy psych improvisation you can find. this was recorded live in 2014, and, as always with this band, expect some extended right in your face fuzzy psychedelia improvisations
Krautzone - Kosmische Rituale
http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/99431589/file.html
Krautzone is a collab between Electric Moon and Zone Six, and yes, they keep every promise the band name can suggest. you will get here three heavy psych tracks, that at times furiously makes you think of Ash Ra Tempel and other legendary german bands of the '70s

Earthless meets Heavy blanket - In a dutch haze
http://www75.zippyshare.com/v/47813874/file.html

Xhol caravan - Altena
http://www37.zippyshare.com/v/71955727/file.html
a live recording from 1969 of this seminal kraut band. some psychedelic jazz covers (Olé, Psychedelic Sally), but, more important, a one hour long acid drenched Freedom opera that is quite worth listening to

Günter Schickert - Samtvogel
http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/29986737/file.html
released in 1974, this album is entirely made with a guitar and an echo device, making Schickert some kind of successor of the early '70s experiments, and a precursor to other people like Manuel Göttsching (who released an album of the same kind, but in 1976)
Günter Schickert - Überfällig
http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/47100511/file.html
and his second album, this time from 1979, and with a drummer added, but keeping the same echo guitar drive as the first
Cosmic circus music - Wiesbaden
http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/73717902/file.html
recorded in 1973 but only released last year, this is probably the only record you will ever heard by this band, and that's too bad because they made some great stuff. here you have two 40mn kraut jams going on, with a weird feeling of being out of the time continuum when listening to them
Tangerine Dream - Live Manchester
http://www18.zippyshare.com/v/47033608/file.html
http://www18.zippyshare.com/v/85321200/file.html
I don't think there's any need of presenting Tangerine dream, but maybe the Tangerine tree deserves it : it was a project whose purpose was to find and make available for free every Tangerine dream shows recorded (and there were a lot). sadly, the project has been cancelled in 2006 due to legal problems, and the files are harded to find now. this one has been recorded in 1976, and is an excellent example of the band's ability to improvise some insanely good synth frescos that work either as relaxation or tripping music. on the second one, Froese picks up guitar, and adds a more krautrock sound to the mix
Tangerine Dream - Live Düsseldorf
http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/5923325/file.html
another one from 1976, more focused on quiet atmospheres, especially in the first improv
>>49073065
why is this 1 track? the cd and bandcamp have it split into 5 tracks. trying to verify source is this vinyl?
Tangerine Dream - Live Reims
http://www1.zippyshare.com/v/22684046/file.html
recorded with professional quality and superb acoustic in 1974 in the cathedral where french kings used to be crowned , this one is probably the best fruit of the entire Tangerine tree, and the first track is probably among the best improvisations ever made
too bad they have been banned from ever playing again in a christian church because needles and crap has been found in the cathedral after the show (the building even had to be consecrated again)
>>49073797
you can get it as 1 track on the bandcamp too, they split it in multiple parts so they could release it on LP (but as the track has been improvised as a whole, I don't want it to get cut, especially since they added some fade out / fade in at the beginning and the end of the splitted parts)
Barney Wilen & his amazing free rock band - Dear prof. Leary
http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/77878099/file.html
and one last german album before hitting jazz world. Barney Wilen (of whom we will talk about later) is a french sax player that made everything from hard bop in the beginning of the '60s to free jazz with african people (if you're interested in this, check out his album Moshi). here he made a psych record that sounds a lot like the stuff the krautrock scene has produced in the '70s, except it has been made in 1968, making it some kind of precursor
Anyone here listen to Gastr del Sol? What's their best album to start with?
>>49073901
>too bad they have been banned from ever playing again in a christian church
Only catholic churches, in fact the church of england invited them shortly afterwards (probably just to annoy the papists).
>>49074031
Thanks for the response, it sounds fine to me
>>49074098
indeed, and some of those english churches shows are also in the Tangerine tree, and pretty good (York, Coventry and Liverpool) .I should learn one day to differenciate the different christianity brands. thanks for the precision
also, I am going to have an aperitif with my parents, so I'll do the jazz part later. see you there

Barney Wilen - More from Barney at the Club Saint-Germain
http://www65.zippyshare.com/v/28342023/file.html
Barney Wilen, 23yo at the time, recorded his first album live with Duke Jordan on piano, Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Daniel Humair (who, at the time, just arrived in Paris), and the bass veteran Paul Rovère. needless to say, it's a great bop / hard bop session, that you can here discover in its entirety with this double cd edition
in the booklet it is reported that Stéphane Grappelli, hearing this album for the first time in a blind test, couldn't believe his ears that it was that youngster playing
Benoît Berthe back quartet - First pages
http://www75.zippyshare.com/v/36297758/file.html
speaking of youngsters, here is probably one of the future leading jazz units in France. Everyone in is about 25yo, but damn are they good (for example I saw the double bassist playing with Archie Shepp this year, and he's fucking 23, way to be jealous). expect some strong post bop, and keep an eye on them, because they will more than certainly get better with the years and the training

Christian Vander - Au Sunset
http://www75.zippyshare.com/v/47515782/file.html
recorded at the Sunset sunside, another great parisian club (and usually much less expensive than the Duc des Lombards, if you're hanging out in Paris and want to see some jazz), here shines the jazz roots of Christian Vander, that we're more used to hear in Magma and Offering (although his first recordings before Magma are as a sideman on jazz albums). great quartet playing on Coltrane's tunes (except the last one, which is a Vander comp)

Barry Harris - Live in Rennes
http://www61.zippyshare.com/v/38766381/file.html
this great jazz pianist has been active as a leader since the '60s and appears as a sideman on numerous good records. this one has been recorded live in a straight-ahead trio formation in 2010, and the least you can say is that he still gets it, even as a 81yo man
I'm looking for Boyd Rice/NON albums.
Can you help me?
Thierry Maillard - The alchemist
http://www9.zippyshare.com/v/82459394/file.html
Maillard, after being a classical pianist for years, discovered jazz in the '90s, and never stopped since. here he goes back to his roots, with an album played with his usual trio, but with a string quartet added. you like classical ? you like jazz ? well, you'll certainly like what will probably stay as one of the best jazz albums from this year !

this man represents about everything I love in double bass, he has an incredible tone (as an anon pointed out in /jazz/ the other day, it has some similarities with Ron Carter's), a natural ability to launch astoundishing basslines, a great time keeper... and he was a great friend of Guy Lafitte, who happens to be one of my favorite sax players (he plays on some tracks, and reads a poem). what do you need more ?

Residents Uninc. - Baby Sex [Unreleased, 1971]
> Leftfield, Avantgarde, Experimental, Parody
https://mega.co.nz/#!yUlSSCIY!GwnZCNv-nrUvknnN3nu_2i-lSZhlXJ5VjIEqflP8G6E
I'm assuming that everybody knows about The Residents but here is something for that one person who doesn't!
Recorded on quarter inch reel to reel tape in 1971, this was never released. Apparently the front of the box showed an infant being orally abused by an adult female with the image lifted from some Danish magazine. If I haven't lost you already, this is a really great and bizarre offering recorded before The Residents officially existed. One of the highlights for me is a crazed hyperactive run through of King Kong from The Mothers Of Invention's "Uncle Meat". This is a glimpse into the things that were to come!

With four original tracks, and a cover of The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” it’s a skewed, psychedelic quarter of an hour journey into Cole Williams’ world, where dusty hip-hop thump, soul, and R&B collide in a wilfully weird melange of sounds and textures.
