>Trip Hop, Jazz, Ambient, Baroque, Post Rock

My new album, Bringing Up the Bodies, is out! It's fairly short, but I wanted to distil a certain style and sound in a concentrated manner. A lot of Trip Hop/Krautrock influence, as well as inspiration taken from Flying Lotus and the like and my usual fave Jazz artists (Davis, Coltrane, Maupin, Mingus, Liston Smith, Hubbard). Worked on over 3 months and going through many changes until I was finally happy. I really am.

Would love feedback as always. Check it out and lemme know what you reckon. Cheers!

I dig it. Very original. I think with this kinda song, you'd need to hear at least an E.P. to know if it's good. Like, if you can make this style interesting and original over a couple songs. Fucking love the name.

It's alright. It's hard to do garage rock these days cus there was a million of em in the last few years but you seem to be making a decent effort to differentiate yourself. I like slacker a lot but I found the others a bit boring. Reminds me of the Wytches.

Put out three new releases this weekend. Each free and 15 - 25 minutes long.

This is fucking tragic. Artists like you are why no one takes noise seriously. I mean, come one, you're touting the fact that you did literally nothing on Potere Operaio. Come on, dude, try putting a little bit of effort into your craft or just stop now. Just because you have recorded something desn't mean that it's worth anything or that anyone will listen to it put some effort in or you won't get anything out of it.

Long story short, delete your entire bandcamp and everything on it. It's all worthless. Spend 3 or 4 years working on ideas and release something that has a little more thought put into it than just you sitting down a recording improv noodline for 25 minutes at a time.

Also, your album arts are of a phone-camera-run-through-stock-photoshop-filters tier and your song and album titles absolutely reek of pseudo-intellectual drivel. "I'm from Georgia but I'm seriously cultured, lul"

You've single handedly made me give up trying to look through /mu/ bandcamp threads for new music. I just want you to know this. I hope everyone else in this thread invites you to be the guest of honor at their next blanket party.

>>64717513
Eh, spent about 30 - 45 minutes getting the right amount of feedback / tone. If it isn't you're cup of tea I understand, I mean not everyone likes stuff like The Reta or Vomir.

Mostly the 'hard' part goes into the setup of it all / modifications of analog gear etc.
>>
>>64717574
*Rita
>>
>>64717574
Don't you dare compare yourelf to The Rita. The Rita has been doing the kind of stuff you've been passing off as music since the 90s. You're just a tourist, someone who heard a single The Rita track after finding of of their album arts "edgy" and instantly thought that you could also put out 20 minutes of unchanging static and become famous. You're pathetic. Do you care to explain any of the concepts behind you albums? Do you wish to offer any insight into what your albums mean and stand for. Do you care to explain your recording process to enlighten us as to how your music isn't entirely derivative garbage? You're the musical equivalent of a clown, standing on a stage, shooting himself in the scrotum with a staplegun in hopes that some fool will walk by, laugh, and throw a crumpled up dollar at you. Pathetic.

Also, everything on your page better be backlogs that you finally just got around to updating because if you're trying to tell us that you released 9 (FUCKING NINE!?) albums in the past two-and-a-half weeks while telling us that we're in the wrong for not liking your "music", you have to really take a step back and take a look at what a narcicistic lump of cynical filth you've become and just try to think about where it all went wrong.

>You're the musical equivalent of a clown, standing on a stage, shooting himself in the scrotum with a staplegun in hopes that some fool will walk by, laugh, and throw a crumpled up dollar at you. Pathetic.

I would seriously respond to you, but can't see past this. How is that creative writing class going?
>>
>>64718005
>I would seriously respond to you, but can't see past this.

It's good that you can't see past that because that was the final line of my main point. That's generally the point where one would stop reading if they were to make a proper rebuttal, which you seem to have conveniently sidestepped by responding with snark.

Regardless of how much you thrash out and how much you ignore naysayers, it won't make your creations any better.

Ambient can be pretty good. It's great for background when you want to get lost in thought and just use music to set mood/setting. Not all of it has to be something you active listen to. That said never found noise/drone to be pleasant, as I could never focus on anything else if I'm listening to something that harsh.

Pic related: Puts you in a great mood, the mindset of an airport on a sunny morning (at least in my mind, it reminds me of pleasant layovers at Barajas Airport in Madrid).
>>
>>64718954
To me (not sure about anyone else) the pleasure of noise walls / drone walls comes through in the negative space. When you are listening to a 40 minute barrage of sound and it suddenly stops it's a really unique feeling.
>>
>>64719000
I suppose that's an interesting take on it I haven't seen before.

It's really shitty that people tend to just ignore all of a genre posted in these threads simply because of an assumption based on shitty uninspired projects. Same bullshit happened in the noise threads. It's incredibly discouraging for artists who have actually put time and effort into their projects and want to post them here.

There are a few legitimate drone and ambient acts in these threads. I hope that I could call myself one of them, but I certainly find literal 9/10 and 10/10s in these threads. I run the only ambient/drone/noise show at a mid-size uni and I love playing tracks from what I find in these threads. Do I have to filter through shit? Of course, I have to do that with every genre on here. There's some bedroom pop on here that's great and there are other projects that suck considerably more. You have to look for effort in projects and ignore the ones that show none.

I always skip noise, drone, ambient, beats, all that bullshit. like cmon man, dont fucking clog up these threads at least have a talent or something worth sharing for fucks sake. Nothing is worse than pretentious shitty noise "artists". I've played plenty of shows with them. Its just as bad live as it is recorded. How, literally fucking how, can you do that and think for a second anyone could enjoy your pathetic excuse for music?
>>
>>64724865
Why do people find it so hard to believe that there aren't at least a few good ambient artists in these threads? Fuck.

Beats and noise can be super low effort, but writing off entire genres is close-minded.
>>
>>64724865
Because some people like sound. Shocking! If you think it takes no talent or is pretentious, it's obviously because you know nothing about it.

Firstly, this isn't me, so don't go blow up on him like Nick did on Abelian. Give this track an honest listen and tell me it's that it's not at all catchy
>>
>>64724927
i know, i understand your point, but ive just been burned too many times clicking on a artist of those genres in these threads. at least 9/10 its a total waste of time and the person only has a bandcamp so he can feel like hes a musician. Fucking learn how to play an instrument or construct a song, fuck. But yes, on a whole, there really isnt an entire genre that should be dismissed. Even so, imnot a fan of those genres really. So, i wouldnt be the guy to critique them anyway as i wouldnt know what to look for. I mean, thats why i come in these, to give and receive criticism so i can help others and maybe see if something is wrong my stuff that i didnt catch. I wouldnt want a guy telling me how to fix my music if he has never listened to or hates my genre, ya know? Same thing if iwent to a very talented noise guy and said "this is shit, fix this, that, whatever". I'm ranting but you get the idea

refer to my comment here guys. I didnt mean to rile anything up. I understand that people do genuinely like that stuff, when its done with care. but in these threads, it usually comes off as "hey i make music too!!"

and im giving that an honest listen now. I'll tell ya in a minute
>>
>>64725103
by my comment, i mean this one
>>64725063
>>
>>64725030
yeah that was pretty good. It was pretty, short, and had a great texture to it. Very warm feeling as well but an almost industrial sheen was over top. Very enjoyable. Could i listen to an entire album of that? probably not, but imsure others could. But that isnt the case with most of the BCs i find. maybe ill give them more chances.
>>
>>64725014
I'm glad we can have such civil discussion and open minds. I know sound takes talent. I know that depsite looking down upon some genres, there is maybe one or two artists that have been here in the past year that don't have shit mixes.
>>64725063
Okay. So you're not a fan of the genre. That completely justifies writing off the artistry of that tenth person that actually knows how to play a few instruments, construct songs, mix, and master. Although I don't listen to metal anymore, I can still provide mixing feedback to the metal artists in these threads. I don't like more than a couple bedroom pop artists and I can give them good mixing feedback. I can give objective feedback despite not being a huge fan of the genre. Learning to objectively appreciate some qualities about music in other genres takes time, but is important to listeners, the artists in here, and the community of these threads.

>>64725118
>>64725172
Was typing a reply before you directed me towards the comment. I'm glad you could sit through it and provide some opinions on it. You should be able to click on "laura pointless" to listen to the rest.
But again, yes a lot of people suck, but you have to dig through shit to find awesome stuff and artists need to hear feedback to work towards being less shitty
>>
>>64725173
i guess it comes down to me feeling like an asshole for trying to give a guy criticism on something i know so little about. If i've offended anyone i apologize. I'll try to become more educated on the subject and give honest listens more often. its just really not my cup of tea though, music wise. And i dont listen to too much metal anymore either, but id gladly give feedback on it as i know quite a bit about mixing bands. I love finding metal in here though, its quite rare.
>>
>>64725296
It's all about being honest without being harsh. The artist's putting themselves out there by making the music and you're putting yourself out there by offering feedback. Also, listening to more will help you learn more about it. You don't have to be educated, that'll come with time. I'm also not saying to torture yourself listening to genres you hate constantly, but it's nice to help others out. Someone's not an asshole for trying to help.
>>
Do people really think noise musicians don't know how to play instruments?

I feel like this is something you can definitely develop on. You seem to have a clear direction.

I like this. I have a real soft spot for this kind of emo. I'd back of the reverb just a little bit. It's a little too much to be subtle and not quite enough to be washy. Cool songs though. Recording is nice.

I just went back and re listened on my headphones. Its the delay/reverb on the vocals. On my shitty desktop speakers it sounds pretty pronounced. Less so on the headphones. Later on in the song its more noticeable as well I think.
>>
>>64727014
so you think there's not enough verb and delay on them?
>>
>>64727118
I think you can go either way. Totally washed out for a "we did this on purpose" feel, or back it off for a more focused sound. Right now I just think it doesn't sit right.

>>64727251
i get what you mean now. i actually felt that way too. id like to have less verb on my voice and focuss it more, but im self conscious about my singing and i feel like vox are a deal breaker for many. So im at a weird balance of burying and putting em up front. But ive had many people say they're mixed just right, so i think its all up to preference. But im with you, im not sure where they sit. For our other songs for the album, i havent been putting as much on them. except for a few of the dreamy songs, ill wash the shit out of em and see how it fits. But generally, id tell you if you like what you hear, were putting out a full album, with this track on it, in a month or so. im sure ill get all the mixing down a bit better then. Also, we have got a whole other album up there as well, titled You Feel Bad About You. The songs on there tend to have a bit more reverb i think
>>
>>64726410

This is great, it sounds enough like chip-tunes to give a certain vibe, actually it kind of reminds me of the music in the Hyperdimension Neptunia games sorry if you can't stand that shit, or in terms of musical reference points something like Anamanguchi or Perfume. But there's enough influence from other genres that it doesn't pigeonhole itself and has a lot of personality, so I could see someone liking this even if they're into glitchhop or some other genre not directly tied into video games.
