>Fav albums contemporary and old

Also do you think we're in a new psychedelia age? Seems to be more and more stuff coming out that can be considered psychedelic.

I hope so, I love that idea.

I hope so as well. I've been composing songs for a little psychedelic-inspired project I've been dreaming about for the past year. I've been studying composition and listening to a lot of old orchestral music - mainly baroque and impressionism. It's obviously been done ages ago [psychedelic music with classical music instrumentation] and songs like Good Vibrations are definitely an influence to me but I'm trying to make something a tad more unique, absolutely straying away from guitars and rock drum sets and such instruments and psychedelic lyrics/imagery for the sake of being psychedelic etc. And I absolutely hate hate hate when I hear a "psychedelic" band and it's basically a Beatles rip-off. Countless times I've been disappointed when searching for something else.
Main instrument would be piano because it's fucking underrated and I love it but I'm not very good at it yet. I also play the violin and know quite a few people who play different shit in orchestras (some professional some amateurish) so maybe I'd get some help there.

Ok now to stay on topic. A tad soft psychedelia but absolutely underrated album imho.

Oh and no electronics obviously. Too easy to get all "psychedelic" with computers, keyboards ie. electronic music.
>>
>>64310569

>>
>>64311451

Dunno if the thread is dead, but...

I'm really looking for a specific kind of psychedelia in music. When most people talk of psych music, they imagine dropping acid and listening to the trippiest, most mind-scrabbling thing they can find.

But, what if I want to drop acid and feel that I've been wrapped in a warm blanket, totally comfortable with positive vibes, or not exactly "positive" but emotional and engrossing?

I've only found a few albums that do the trick, and sometimes they only veer into psych, but if you guys could rec me some stuff, I'd be eternally grateful.

Sandy Bull - E Pluribus Unum (my all time fav trip music)
Can - Future Days
Mort Garson - Plantasia
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi
Bill Fay - Time of the Last Persecution
Dave Bixby - Ode to Quetzlcoatl
John Fahey - Red Cross
Billy Nicholls- Would You Believe
Beach Boys - Surf's Up

While your albums aren't, this is 100% dream pop.

Listen to this.

Been trippin to Panda Bear a lot lately. Yeti from Amon Duul II made me feel really warm too. Also Black Dice, Aphex Twin's SAW and Black Moth Super Rainbow are really good
>>
>>64312244
Piano, celesta and harpsichord. No electronics. You know, basically old wooden shit.

there should be a wiki for psychedelia, have all the great psychedelic albums, books and movies on it for psychedelic generals across different boards

Shameful

We're deff. in a new psychedelic age, at least in the (kinda) counter-culture stuff, which is what it started as in the '60s too. All we need is a huge band to have massive mainstream success with psychedelia and we have true new age.
It would be like One Direction or something releasing a psych album
>>
>>64313967
The problem is there's too much apathy. There's no following the Grateful Dead across the country anymore. Nothing to be this landmark acid revolution, because it's already happened
>>
Electronic Artists:
Infected Mushroom (try older)
Shpongle
Tipper
Space Jesus
Flying Lotus
Random Rab
Phuture Primitive
Liquid Stranger (some)
Bonobo
Squarepusher
Eskmo
Amon Tobin
Freddy Todd
1200 Micrograms
Nosaj Thing
Massive Attack

I can keep going if anyone's interested.
>>
>>64314018
This is true. Partly due to the fact it isn't novel, and also because society has changed too, the actual psychedelic aspect is more restricted due to the super tight laws, you can't just brew up some 2C-E anymore.

Innovation is needed I guess, a new movement; if psychedelia is looking like it could have a resurgence, there needs to be a breakthrough into popular media again, I'm sure of it

>>64313964

Is there any good psychedelia forums? A place where I could talk about this kind of music, movies, books, the universe, art and of coarse tripping

Pendulum
Bliss
Slugabed
Machinedrum
The M Machine
Marcioz
Point Point
Wave Racer
Com Truise
Dedealus
Beats Antique
The Glitch Mob
Crystal Castles
Purity Ring
Grimes
Four Tet
Dan Deacon
Conspirator
Noisia
The Knife
Eric Prydz
Kill the Noise

All artists who may not necessary "psychedelic", but definitely use their sound in a unique way that attempts warps the preceptive of the listener, along with most being on another level when played in a "live experience", such as a festival.

Please spoonfeed me on new neo-psychedelia releases. Haven't heard of anything worthwhile for a while now. Preferibly electronic oriented.

PAUW
Dutch band very inspired by Tame Impala (similar to innerspeaker's guitar tone at times) and Pond
Otherwise similarities to the Small Faces, The Doors and ITCOCK
Released their debut album about 8 months ago

Den Sorte Skole - Lektion III
Probably doesn't qualify as psychedelic.
They sample across all genres, first album is mostly rap inspired. Second is little more psych inspired, but still with rap.
The third and newest is most psych inspired yet, with a mix of pygmy/psych/noise/electro.

of Montreal and Animal Collective are my definite favorite bands, and are both heavily psychedelic. can anyone think of groups that are similar in style, sound, or consistency (in terms of quality)? the only groups I've found that are similar are YAWN, Alvin Band, and Miniature Tigers. All nice, but I need more!

Not so much like them, but very nice, I found this group yesterday perusing thru the RYM neo psychedelia section, and i think they're very nice.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXMey9IT7hk

>>64322290
you've obviously listened to the new deakin record, what did you think? I loved it
>>
>>64322795
i thought it was gorgeous! i was so surprised, because i've never loved any of the Deakin tracks on the AnCo albums, particularly had a dislike for Wide Eyed.. but wow, it was just beautiful and it really resonated with me. It sounded more 'AnCo' than Painting with (which i loved as well)
