Nick Plante is only a minor cog in the Lattice Collective but thank you. I am really enjoying the unique tones in this. This is definitely some special harsh noise. Is the violin sampled or do you play? If you play, are you classically trained or are you just playing around?

This isn't my project, I jsut know the girl who made it.

It's not sampled. I've seen her play live before and it's fucking awesome.

Nick Plante posted a photo of Bjork on Facebook with the caption "I'm Abelian!" or something, someone posted a screenshot to /mu/, and Abelian got mad. Then Nick Plante started impersonating Abelian in the bandcamp threads.

this is kind of a trend but its overall really good.
cause a lot of people post here with the intention of "getting their music out to people" but have never really face much personal or direct criticism or antagonism, which you need to be able to handle in a non spergy way or else you'll never survive once your music actually gets out to more than just mu. and if they can't handle it than it was probably never meant to be. its like musical darwinism or smth

Hey everyone I'd just like to say I think it would benefit everyone if we start giving each other anonymous feedback and recs. It stops people from babying each other and giving each other "recs" which are just more or less pats on the back. And I feel like it would just help this place grow as an artistic community much better, it would also help curb all this sticky drama.

So just post your ad and come back and leave feedback in an hour or so.
>>
>>64196805
I also like how it generated posts that weren't just shilling their own stuff, and reccing others out of some obligation to the thread, so that they could get away with shilling their own stuff.
>>
>>64196805
Neither of them were being criticized for the quality of their music. Abelian was being called out by Nick Plante for no reason other than his Björk posting, while Abelian was making fun of Nick Plante for looking young. It was more of just petty jabs than actual fighting.
>>
I get that its not actually abelian but that dudes imposter makes me respect his work. Because its actually entertaining.

>>
>>64196917
From what I can tell, Nick Plante is deliberately playing up the whole "underage british twat" gimmick. So I don't think he'll mind. Also that chart gives him a bigger photo than everyone else.
>>
>>64196805
I wouldn't really call that being criticized, though. Sperging out and stooping to immaturity like airing people's personal information is antagonism, but serves no actual purpose.
>>64196811
It would be totally beneficial for everyone to leave anonymous feedback. Unfortunately, some equate anonymity with the freedom to be complete asshats with their feedback without being constructive or objective in any form.

>>
>>64197123
So where did abelian go?
>>
>>64196997
I think harshness is good though. Some of the best criticism is the most harsh.

I think what makes this diffrent than say a soundcloud thread is that to me a lot of those people in soundcloud threads seem more like hobbiest with their music. While here there's more experimentation or just a more overall pride in your work.

I think if anyone is willing to have their music out in the open for others to listen to they should be open to criticism, harsh or not. It's part of being an artist.

I've gotten a bad review from a pretty well known music blog in my community and was I mad. Yeah for 10 minutes, then I got over it when I realized that
A) Someone was willing to take a chance on my music
B) They were willing to even take the time to write about it
C) There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Just people talking about it, weather it is in a good or bad light, will draw others to it. The root world of infamy is fame.
>>
>>64197144
It's only Abelian if it's a trip-code.

The basic namefag Abelian is Nick Plante.
>>
>>64197147
As previously stated, he had a bit of a meltdown after people posted his personal information on here. He came back for two or three threads to let people know he wasn't coming back (a little odd, but not gonna question it) and has not returned since.
>>
>>64197205
>people posted his personal information on here
Wow that's fucking low.
>>
>>64197191
Neat. Be nice if he took a break from shilling though.
>>
>>64197183
Harsh up to the point of it's usefulness is cool. I do agree that there's more experimentation and people who have a genuine interest in production in comparison to SC threads (I have no idea about the /prod/ threads, though). The more I think about it, the more I agree with you.

That said, there's been people in here that have replied to nearly everyone with feedback along the lines of "listened for ten seconds, not my thing, sucks" and that's not cool.
>>
>>64197227
Yeah, doing shit like that isn't indicative of a community at all.
>>
>>64197305
I'm the shit feedback giver. I see my bad feedback out as a form of validation. Why else would we post our shit? Also I do it so the discovery of something great hits harder.
>>
>>64197305
>listened for ten seconds, not my thing, sucks

To be fair isn't that how we normally find or decide on new music anyways? Think about it how often do you open up a video in say a youtube thread and listen to say a minute and make a choice on weather you like it or not.

If I've already decide I don't like the first minute of your 17 mintue harsh noise-industrial-vaporgaze-ambient-dronewave project what makes you think I'm going to sit through the other 16 minutes, I may skip around. But you have to keep in mind that everyone here has life and time they'd like to spend other things doing. People aren't feedback machines.

I do agree 10 seconds is a bit short, but there's nothing we can do about it really, people just have short attention spans.

I lied actually, this is actually really great. Wasn't expecting the cool harmonized vocals, the trippy synths, and the unconventional percussion. You need a better visual aesthetic and some kind of driving concept 'cause this is actually really great musically. Very comfy and soulful.
>>
>>64201749
I wish you incorporated the vocals through this project more, they're very evocative and well-done. Some of the drones feel like they drag a bit but I understand that's likely an artistic choice and for diehard fans of the genre I'm sure this hits the sweet spot, I imagine it's not something you'd show someone with intent of getting them into post-rock or drone but rather that gem that a passionate fan finds somewhere and carries it close with them emotionally. Fascinating textures throughout, I like the consistent use of organs, the effects they're filtered through sound reminiscent of some bleak apocalyptic machinery, cold and desolate. I'm not sure if the lack of percussion was a choice or due to lack of access to drum kits but it feels like the strongest weakness of this album; so many moments I hear soaring guitar parts that could be underscored better by a pounding drum beat or held together with washed-out cymbals. The message is still put across effectively but I feel like it's just missing something. Then again, perhaps that adds to the chaotic and melancholy nature of the album; thinking on something distant and missing that leaves a sharp sense of absence in the listener.

Overall though, bretty gud. Would recommend to fans of drone and ambient/apocalyptic folk.

>>64201749

Decided to give this a chance since it got overlooked, I'm glad I listened. The guiat progression is super simplistic, but it works well enough. I understand the emphasis is the message of the lyrics so I don't hold the simplicity of it against you.

I get maybe three partway listens from /mu/ if I'm lucky while I get a couple every other day from facebook and I'm not a stereotypical 4chan shut-in or anything but not a social butterfly by any means either. Maybe try that if you haven't. I'm getting my music on spotify as well now but not anticipating that spreading much beyond people I know either.
>>
>>64202476
Yeah, Facebook is pretty decent for me too, I have a couple hundred followers on there and I get occasional listens from there, mostly a bunch of people in Europe that follow the page out of nowhere. I feel ya, though, I'm not a sperglord-4chan-basement-dweller but I'm not super popular either.

What's the process like for Spotify? I've tried very briefly to get on there but I'm kind of technologically impaired so I have no fucking clue.

New Alldrig? I'm hyped too man, I love your work, I'm excited to see what direction you go from where you've already been given the sonic diversity of your releases already.
>>
>>64202818
Was trying to give you feedback last night but the anonymous-feedback thread got 404'd.

I love your flow, I think the whole dark rap aesthetic is cool and all, but man, I'd love to hear you step up your lyrical game. The "I'm fucked up and all I do is take drugs to forget how fucked up I am" bit is an interesting shtick but it falls flat unless there's some kind of narrative or strong sense of poetics/imagery to back it up. Your flow and rhythm are all very good and I like the tracks, but the lyrics just don't keep my interest. Keep doing you though mate, I see a lot of potential in you.

also >>64202406
I listened to these two songs and I liked them a lot. Very simplistic vocal melodies but they're very cute twee indie, definitely the kind of stuff I could dig at an open mic while sipping some coffee. Also the bass in Jupiter & Mars and the piano in If The Bird Won't Sing are fantastic.

Simply-arranged and to the point. Good stuff, mate.
>>
>>64202932
Thanks buddy, I don't have a mic at the moment so i've been spending time working on my writing. 651 probably has the most work put into the writing of all my released shit because i was in a pretty dark place at that time so I would definitely check that out.
>>
>>64203005
I don't think I listened to 651, I listened to probably the first couple tracks so my opinion is by no means comprehensive. I'll check it out, though, if you think I'd dig it.

I'd like to see some material when you get back to the game with your writing sharpened. Understand that I don't think your writing is terrible, it could just use some depth, but if you're working on it, then you just keep doing you.

Not to be a dick or anything but fuck, I left a shit ton of feedback and got zero. It happens every time, to me at least. I know people have busy lives and there's nothing /wrong/ with dropping a link and leaving per se but man these threads have become a shitshow. I slaved for 10 months making my album, it just sucks not having that effort reciprocated or noticed.

Feel free to call me a whiny baby because to an extent yeah, that's what I'm being but we all know this is a problem. We really need to stick to that one idea that was presented last night with the "leave your links then give anonymous feedback" shtick.

Seems like you pretty much gave yourself some feedback:
>>64204798

But if you want more than you already gave yourself I'd say you should probably work on the mixing a lot, or just your sound in general. The guitars sound really thin for example. And the drums tend to sound a lil bit too robot-like. I don't mind the lo-fi aspect at all so that's not the problem for me.

You should probably get someone to help you with the recording process and mixing/mastering.

The songwriting feels very inconsistent to me and to be honest you should probably try focusing on doing a smaller release where you try to focus your big ideas and ambitious attempts at complex songwriting.

It's pretty obvious to me that you have very high ambitions with your project in terms of writing and concepts and themes but all this kinda falls flat because of what I said above.

That makes sense. He was part of a lot of the drama on FB /mu/ too. because Rodger at the local usps wants to charge me $4 an ounce to ship shit

the tapes cost roughly $50 for an order of 25 (15 for the tapes 15 for cases and 15 for shipping on the site we've been using) then it costs another $30 to make the labels. this is a big money sink and we're not even close to breaking even

Thanks, really appreciate it. There's a pitch corrector on a couple songs that I didn't like at first but it grew on me. Link to your stuff?

Thanks for the kind words. I've only listened to a few songs from your bc so far but it's really interesting. That second one I'll definitely revisiting.

i like this. at times the kind of like interpol-esque + emo hybrid is a little cumbersome, but I think at time yall will figure out how to better blend these styles

this is really good actually ! !

reminds me a bit of Badbadnotgood indeed, but this is different, drums seem to be a bit less hiphop and the bass is much more prog, the keys are great, really good album, 9/10
