Treat your bassists properly, people. Feed them twice a day, make sure they have a clean place to poop and grant them access to a metronome and many drumtracks in several rhythms at all times.
Oh, and anime. Bassists are mostly weebs, so give them a good 2 hours of anime time per day, this will keep them motivated and happy in the long run.

Howdy /gg/, ampbro from a few days ago whose 135 watt 4 ohm tube amp into 8 ohm cab was getting BTFO by other guitarist's 100w SS with perfectly efficient cab.

I got the 4 ohm cab, it's certainly a little louder but he's stay way fuckin louder, I'm at 10 across the board and he can't go past 5, and he's now playing the 8 ohm cab. Friend who knows about amps insists it's just because my Fender is a "classy" amp while the other dude's Peavey is a workhorse; I'm willing to believe that to some extent but being literally half as powerful seems a little extreme. Is it time to get the amp checked out and possibly repaired? No reason a 135 watt amp through a goddamn 412 shouldn't be peeling the paint off the walls...
>>
>>64052326
I-I am a weeb bassist.
>>64052342
Good point, also you HAVE to restrict their anime access or else they'll simply stop sleeping entirely and just watch anime. A healthy sleep schedule is important, and during crunch time you may restrict anime access even further to 1 hour per day as to make more room for practice without losing sleep.

You're a bassist right ? The lower you play, the more power you need to get the same volume.
Also try just messing with the EQ, if you're playing both on the same frequencies, you're going to have more trouble hearing the quieter amp.

>>64052552
natural or pinched ? Natural harmonics are just a matter of finding the right place, artificial are hard to get if you play clean but a compressor or gain will do the trick. Changing your picking technique could help, I can't do them as well with larger picks.

>>64052572
weird, 135w is more than enough to play over someone, I've jammed with drummers with only 20w. Either try messing with the EQ or get it checked, that's not normal.

Natural. It's not hard but I can't seem to play full chords through harmonics it's a real pain in the arse

He's playing a 4 Ohm amp through an 8Ohm cab, he's not getting the full power and he never will, period. Also, same speaker configuration on both cabs? 130W through a 412 will be louder than through a 210 even if the speakers are equally efficient and the csb is the same impedance.
>>
>>64052652
A crossdressing slam death band would be 10/10
>>

yeah, again he's running a 100w SS peavey into a 412 as well, and I'm willing to accept that his amp might be more efficient but not THIS drastic of a difference, especially when he's running the mismatched cab. I shouldn't be matching him at 5 with my shit dimed.

Warmoth makes good stuff, ultimately it may cost you the same as an American standard and have half the resale value, but if you opt for light(weight) woods you could make a guitar under 6lbs.

I'm sure there are cheaper brands of neck with similar quality but less options. It's worth checking out if those other brands coincidentally match the parameters you want.

>amp doesn't act right
>"Is this normal?"

I know you're not a tech, but at least show some form of independent thought and troubleshooting.

>Check that it's not something in front of the amp
-you plug into his amp and he plugs into your amp... lol it was just a bad cable, battery, guitar, jack solder joint

>check that it's not the cab
-he runs his rig into your cab, you into his... lol my cab was out of phase, blown, had a bad solder joint, bad speaker cable

>check that the tubes aren't bad
-drop in a new set of tubes. If that fixes it then bias them, done.

If you're still up shit creek, then you'll need a tech.
>>
>>64055554

>>

Classical and bluegrass I guess. I can't really get into blues finger style for some reason, I prefer a pick. I've always found finger style is best for playing a bass line alongside another part. Otherwise I usually just utilize muting and strum. I think the main weakness of that approach is muting open strings. Tends to be less doable on the fly.

>>
>>64057185
Doesn't help. No matter what I'm always bending my wrist at a really awkward angle, it makes playing chords painful.
>>
>>64057134
You don't normally let it sit, but there's no problem with using more pressure. Put your back into it. Just make sure you're using a microfiber cloth A.K.A a t-shirt. Don't use something that could scratch it.
>>
>>64057134
Try applying more pressure but if it doesn't go away it's probably not a smudge. Some satin finishes can end up looking like that if they're scrubbed too hard. In that case, there's not much you can do.
>>
>>64057208
pull your strip up and tuck your elbow. Your elbow should never be more than an inch from touching your stomach unless you're playing the upper frets. Of you're fat it should always touch your stomach.

I don't think it's part of the satin. It looks and feels like a large drop of grease that spread around and hardened

1. Own a guitar that isn't top heavy (the neck and headstock are light enough to stay in position when you angle it up)
2. Make that strap tighter. Your guitar is your new favorite bow-tie
3. Keep that sucker angled up

No one ever said proper technique looks cool

You have to keep it straight. I'm assuming you mean your left hand or whatever is your fretting hand. Using a strap to tilt the guitar closer to your ear will straighten out your wrist and prevent any tendons from pinching each other. Look up images of classical guitarists and see how they do it.

I've had a handful, they were ok i guess. Their dirt pedals are just clones of existing circuits but i liked their chorus and delay pedals. Ultimately sold those off too cause there are far better sounding and more interesting options out there. Also had their pitch bay for awhile but it was pretty boring too. Did keep their zap machine.
>>
>>64054003
Try:

Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Compressor (GuitarRig, but any would do)
TSE808
Noisegate (REAPER VST) -60db
Parametric EQ adding +4db to 120Hz
The Anvil preamp (lead channel)
NadIR running ASEM V30 on left and right in dual mono.
Parametric EQ cutting -2db at 240Hz
High Pass at 60Hz

On a side note, anyone tried rhythm games to help with co-ordination? As some of you here would know I have trouble controlling my hands after a motorcycle accident. Been playing this stupid DDR clone thing and it's actually really helping my finger control and dexterity.

Why should I get an mxr carbon copy over something with many delay types for about the same price?
>>
>>64060083
Yes. That's the signal chain.

Set TSE808 drive to 0, tone between 5 and 10, level to 10.

On The Anvil set it to lead and set the gain to maybe 2-4.
>>
>>64060157
because you want an analog delay instead of a digital delay?
>>
>>64060190
But there are numerous delays for the same price that have an analog setting and can do much more
What are the benefits of having multiple instead of one versatile pedal?
>>
>>64060527
Not him but the analog setting will most likely be emulated as opposed to something like a carbon copy which is a true analog delay. It really comes down to preference.
>>
>>64057355
.....for you......
>>
>>64060566
Oh, I did not know that. Thank you anon
>>
>>64060527
speaking from my own experience, at that price point you are dealing with compromise. with that digital delay you are probably compromising on sound quality to give options. so you will basically have multiple poor sounding delay tones.

or you can have an ok sounding analog delay for that price point. im not a huge fan of the carbon copy either but at least it's not trying to sound like five different things.

on the other hand maybe you don't mind and you want to have all those options and you might love them all, or you might only love one and you gotta wonder do you love it more than you might love the carbon copy? or i dunno,

try them both if you can before you buy obviously, and look on reverb.com for better prices on secondhand.

>>
>>64061096
don't really recall but its a % of the declared value...i think. i've bought other gear internationally and sometimes there has not been a fee and sometimes there has been. I think it depends on the customs form. maybe when i've bought pedals from individuals they fudged the paperwork to make it a gift or something, but business' like matamp follow the law or something.

got a minimat.
>>
>>64061123
yeah vintage gear prices are fucked, and there are a lot of business' selling for profit on there too. but when you find another musician they are usually down to haggle on the price or work out trades etc.

no doubt though, reverb is packed with shitty people. better chance of working out a deal than say, ebay. but the best is being a part of a gear community and getting friend prices.

What other effects will I need to achieve this sort of tone?

Is that one of the recent ones built from the leftover chassis? I always wondered if the attenuator is necessary on those, is it that useful? Thought about getting one, but saved up a bit for a GT40. Thinking about getting a vertical 2x12 to match as well in the future.
>>
>>64061299
you might be able to put your own little twist on it with a pitch shifter, also the Swollen pickle probably isn't the fuzz for this type of stuff

It's a squier something or another.

Doesn't matter. Don't browse /gg/ for another 2 years or you'll regret it, aside from following whats in the first post most of the time.

What is the best place to sell your used pedals? I have a Fuzz Factory that i bought for $110 and i want to replace it and try something else that has a little more control. Should i set up a Reverb account? Ebay? Guitar Center?

not 100% sure, i bought it towards the end of last year so maybe. attenuator is a nice touch and does make it more versatile i guess. I'd probably use that more if i still lived in an apartment, but I bough it for recording so i run it wide open almost exclusively. sounds so good, i'm saving up for a t40 to hopefully order sometime this year.

reverb is free to list but they charge a % when you sell, close to the same as ebay.

best bet is to join a gear forum, get to know the community and post in the b/s/t. probably find a lot of people interested in trading for pedals they have, or at the least once you are established you can get payed via ppg and there are no fees involved.

I'm thinking of building this. It's a circuit that provides only hum-cancelling options for two pickup in-phase and out of phase modes. The bucker can be series/parallel/coil1/coil2 and there's a master series/parallel switch. I'm going to remove the neck blend pot.

I'm planning on throwing this into a tele, with the HB in the middle. What do you guys think a nice looking layout for the switches would be? I'm thinking of putting a jaguar control plate in for the 3 on/off switches, and putting the rotary switch and the series/parallel next to each other where the pickup selector switch normally is. If there's not enough room, where should I put the series/parallel? I can't put it on a push/pull since it's 6p2t, an unusual switch.

I'm considering getting a Marcus Miller M3 as a first bass, does anyone have experience with them>? Are they a good starter bass?

I'm torn between the black or brown finish, but the black is on back order. My tinfoil hat is shining awfully bright. Is it in the realm of possibility for a company to release an initial batch and then downgrade parts after the initial good word has spread?

plz no bully for stupid question. Seriously though are the good basses?
>>
>>64062673
I'd just throw the jag plate(the lower one) vaguely around where it goes on a jag. So just somewhere on the pickguard. I wouldn't put the top control plate on.

As far as the standard tele goes, I might now a bit about circuits but not so much about what fender does. I would assume the middle position of a tele is meant to be hum cancelling. Just don't expect any miracles, you'll probably still have some hum.

There's something good in there if you're a beginner. You have a sense of melody and you're giving composing/improvising a go, which shows confidence and willingness, something that gets in the way of a lot of people starting out.

But yeah, technically, your lead guitar is objectively out tune. Buy a $10 clip-on tuner and tune every time you start playing and again after every 30 minutes. Your bends are also out of tune, I don't think you got any bend right in there, most being considerably flat. Bending is hard because you don't have frets making the guitar sound in tune for you, you have to do it by ear/feel.

Lastly, your rhythm is suffering. You're in and out tempo constantly. Put that willingness and confidence now into work and start practicing with a metronome. Playing in tempo is something that will royally screw you over if you don't start it now. Take it from someone that still struggles with it after years of playing because I didn't start paying attention to playing in time until too late.

Take this as constructive criticism. You have potential.

Toughs about this? I am looking for a practice amp which would be easy to transport. Also It will be used mainly with headphones while at my apartment, but I will use it for playing with friends.
I have watched some videos, and I think it could be good first non-shitty amp.
The build in effects are mandatory and one of the main things I am looking for. I play mostly entry tier metal, buttrock and beatles/radiohead -core, but I am also interested in other genres such as jazz. I think if I buy a amp with build in effects, it will be cheaper than buying effects individually, right?

personally I think a good preamp is where the value is when it comes to solid bass tone. Something with great EQ, and if you're particular about your tone multiple gain structures, will perform better dollar for dollar than an amp. Get a great preamp and a clean amp, and a loud cab, and you're set for life.
>>
>>64071789

>>
>>64073552
I was going to use Tung oil. If you can recommend anything more suitable that'd be great.

For anyone who believes in tone memes these are curupay and have a slightly brighter sound than the bubinga one I bought off eBay.
>>
>>64073646
I'm afraid I don't know a particular oil but tung seems like a pretty good choice. Anything used on gunstocks is pretty hard, i guess. I'm just pulling this out of my ass though. As far as the tonememes I imagine the texture of the pick makes more difference than anything. Probably with fine sanding the picks will sound more similar, though how much grain texture remains is pretty up in the air.
>>
>>64073929
Yeah it's definitely a texture thing. I'm kinda reluctant to use anything that will give a glossy finish as that will probably end up sounding closer to a regular plastic pick.
>>
>>64074390
well, considering the vast variety of different plastics resulting in different tones, some of them quite good, I'd say it's worth it even if it smooths it out a bit. But yeah, I'd just oil one of them. Who knows, you might really like it. The way it wears is pretty relevant if you're a heavy picker, too.

btw, does anyone know which of the jazz iii varieties it the most durable? Mine seem to wear a lot quicker than my nylon picks, though that's probably just because my nylon picks are thinner. I wouldn't be surprised if the standard jazz iii is nylon.

pic not really related, the nylons I actually use are the white super thin ones.
>>
>>64074682
the carbon fiber ones last the longest
normal jazz III's are nylon i believe
