how do you feel about artists who have massive discographies? like buckethead or merzbow, I mean is it anymore about the music? or making a statement, makes me wonder if they really put effort in every song

Pretty much any artist with 30+ albums in their discography is bound to have at least a few that are garbage. I don't care who you are. The more albums an artist/band has, the more likely I am to seek out their "essentials" first instead of just going chronologically. If I like those, I'll go on from there.

I don't know, I'm sure it differs depending on the artist. In Merzbow's case I imagine it's easier to release 11 albums of static a year than something more intricate.

Just a few that come to mind: Celer, bvdub, Natural Snow Buildings, Kevin Drumm

John Zorn
Tangerine Dream
Omar Rodriguez Lopez
Frank Zappa

I was really intimidated by Zappa's discography for a long time. He's an artist that really does need a good flowchart to get into, cause few people are likely to really enjoy every album

Mike Patton has a huge discography too when you include all his thousands of obscure projects/collaborations as well as his more well known bands.

bull of heaven

After about 10 albums it becomes too much and the quality really starts to seem like it's decreasing unless they've been around for years. Very few bands can pull off that many albums before they start releasing shit

Just found out Buckethead released over 260 albums.. that's pretty fucking disgusting..
