It has a unique sound that I like, one that no one who hoped to imitate it has remotely caught up to. You can through all other 'post rock' in the trash compared to it. While apparently tranquil and soft there are many surprising moments and occasional perfectly placed harsh noises.
The melodies are unusual and compelling. The playing is tasteful and haunting. The recording itself idiosyncratic and one of the best ever on a 'pop' album. All elements of it's existence work together to achieve a singular vision.
