Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, conclude that Jangle's Thrift Tourney was a spook, listen to Swedish prog, and just let the good times flow.

Nah I definitely think The Specials are worthwhile. Jamaican bands like Toots and the Maytals are better but I like The Specials a lot, I have a bit of nostalgia for them from listening to my dad's records when I was younger but even so I still think if you're getting into ska you should listen.

hi. I haven't posted in a /daily/ since 2014. haven't actively listened to music in about a year. only record from 2016 I've enjoyed a lot was the new Anohni (which I've heard a whopping twice!). what are some good electronic/idm/ambient/drone/modern classical albums from 2015 and '16? it's never to late to get back on that horse, right?

Fahey uses the excuse of having long songs to have each part of each song not be as interesting as the stuff for example the above two mentioned guys do. And I have looked at Fahey's songs and know how to play guitar; his stuff is pretty simple and if you play classical guitar will have the easiest time with his stuff.
>>66482673
I've never had a trip. I began posting around april of 2014 and posted regularily for about half a year. I'm pretty sure I was the first to have a chart that included both albums and films (if that tells you anything).

Point being that Fahey doesn't do as much within a particular frame of time as other guitarists with truly great solo work do. It rings out even in albums that have shorter tracks like The Voice Of The Turtle.
What are some guilty pleasure albums of yours? You know, albums that the majority of people of /mu/ / /daily/ in general would find to be garbage?
>>66485223
he single handedly created a whole genre of fucking music that still resonates immensely til this day.
He took american folk and blues and made ambitious raga-style solo pieces directly inspired by the Hindustani classical greats.
Just look at the musical evolution that took place from his first album all the way to his peak in the early 70's
I don't know what you're on but he certainly accomplished far more for guitar music in one album than Nick Drake did in his entire career
just be glad nat isn't here

Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs
I kinda don't get the mythologizing that goes on because of Barrett's Pink Floyd career, sure, there was something about the albums that he participated in that marks it as a watershed, but I don't really think that Syd is the only reason for this, I don't know, he doesn't strike me as THAT amazing, especially since listening to the solo album
On this, Barrett is incredibly insecure, almost a nervous wreck, it's almost like the tracks on the album were the only salvageable ones...
I don't really care for his voice, but I can definately see the appeal
Some of the guitar playing, especially when he lets it breath is quite nice
Neil Young
now, this is just cock rock with a few of the sadder tracks shoehorned in for good measure

Definitely will be listening to this album again, feel like it could be a grower, it's more cohesive than Troutmask but something is lost in that
granted, it still has it's fair share of spastic freakouts on here, but everytime it does so it makes sure to eventually get around to grounding it in reality

Sugar Ross - ( )
someone said that this was good, they were wrong
Bored me to tears, for one, it's too fucking slow for it's own good, like snails pace slow, wouldn't even be that bad if they weren't obviously trying to rip the start of The Sound off
for another, hopelandic is really fucking pretentious when you think about it
for third, they try too much to be sad, like the antlers before them it ends up being semi-pathetic

>Beatles aren't more revolutionary than Fahey
This has to be a troll. Yeah a lot of people often give the wrong type of credit to The Beatles being revolutionary, but in the cases where they are actually revolutionary they are by far the most revolutionary group to come out in the last 50 years. Like holy shit you really think some guy with a southern niche is more revolutionary then a band that essentially invented tricks that are still used by the vast majority of popular music artists today?
>everyone down south knows Fahey
>implying everyone down south is actually in tune with their folk scenes
You have never actually been to a small south place, have you?
I'd really love to create a small record label, any tips about where to start?
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Vinter was right about this being :bad:
but it's really not that bad, it'd be a totally different story if there was a competent mixer here... There were some really odd choices in production as well
Aside from that if PJ got voice lessons it'd make a world of difference to her more :passionate: vocals

don't do it. Costs if you want to keep things serious are exorbitant, and if you don't wanna keep things serious you will be the joke on anyone hears about you. If you want to record things with your solo act or your band, stick to a good pair of ambiental mics and a decent mixer. You don't know how much effort it takes to promote an album.

I will cede that in the whole of things The Beatles have been more influential if only because of the mass commercial exposure and appeal they had.
I think musically Fahey managed to accomplish more than they ever did. He revitalized american guitar music and inspired countless artists to follow in his footsteps.
The only true remnants of American folk that are still making waves today are from American primitive guitarists.

Thelonious Monk - Solo Monk (1st impressions)
Really great piano work ranging from upbeat and dance-y to melancholic and serene.
The compositions are nice but struggle to hold my complete attention at times; Monk is a musician that really benefits from having other musicians to riff of of and build upon.
This is nice background music for a cocktail party, and not really something that lends itself to repeated listens and a deepened appreciation.
Still a very nice listen, and one I may listen to again if I find myself doing a menial task where foreground music wouldn't be appropriate.
Recommended for fans of Monk, Paul Bley, Bud Powell, and late 50's bop.

Either they should have more rock in their music or let go of the rock aspect all together and have like some Autechre drums or something. Otherwise it sounds like one of those post-punk albums where there are cool experimental ideas, but they don't really come together and in the bigger picture end up being influenced for latter bands.
