Well mixed albums
>>66458091
sure about that one bud?
>>66458091
LOL!
>>66458101
Not really
I don't know much about mixing and I wanted to be early to the thread
Back In Black
>>66458232
LOL! [2]
>>66458069
pretty teeth
>>66458239
"Back in Black is also praised for its sound quality. In the years after its release, studios in Nashville, Tennessee (nicknamed "Music City") would use it to check the acoustics of a room, while Motörhead would use it to tune their sound system.[41]"
>>66458325
I thought that said back to black my bad
this is god-tier, along with RATM's debut
>>66458091
yeah this album isn't mixed very well at all
90s Metallica albums. Pity they only got good production when they became garbage.
By the Throat by Ben Frost is perfect
most of Radioheads albums
But since you guys are just shitting up this thread, the best mixed albums are by Lightning Bolt and Big Black
Mick Taylor-era Stones. Once he left however, their albums became a fuzzified mess.
The great Sinead O'Connor trilogy (LATC through AIMYG). Fantastic production on those albums with huge walls of sound. You need a good stereo system to appreciate them, not laptop speakers. Also they're great on headphones.
The 80s RHCP albums sounded great, man did the quality of their mixing go downhill when Captain Beardbrain took over.
>>66458069
Ah yes, the mid-90s fake alternachick fad: Fiona, Alanis, Meredith, and Jewel. Brought to you by the marketing department of MTV (TM), a subsidiary of Viacom International. All rights reserved.

>>66458069
what would be an example of a bad mixed album?
The standard?
>>66459841
bruford - feels good to me
can - monster movie
any dream theater album
>>66458792
at least jagged was a good album
>>66459841
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black is a pretty awful mixed album despite being musically good. Compressed out the ass during mastering and just sounds like crap to listen to on headphones.
That's one of the less notorious ones though. The worst ones are albums like Californication or Death Magnetic.
Dark side of the moon may be sort of a meme on here, but it's honestly one of the best produced albums I've heard. It's absolute ear candy.
>>66460140
>hysterical nutcase ranting for 60 minutes how her boyfriend screwed her over
>>66459841
Most 70s-80s metal was mixed rather poorly.
>>66460835
sh-shut up!!!
>>66458792
shut up cuck, fiona is above all of those AND Joanna Newshit, whom I am sure you adore
>>66459841
What is every album ever produced by Rick Rubin.
>>66460835
Boy that album has hooks for days.
>>66458792
This of course being that the record industry realized that there was a potentially sizable market for selling grunge records to girls, but Courtney Love wasn't radio friendly.
>>66460889
He doesn't mix them, idiotic nigger.
>thinking licensed to ill is poorly mixed
>>66460915
So's Red and 1989, but that doesn't compensate for the lyrical content therein.
Both the original and the remaster
Ironic is actually the best song on JLP if only because for once it doesn't have anything to do with Alanis's miserable romantic life. Even if you put aside the fact that there's no actual examples of irony in it.
any album mixed by Greg BRICK-WALL Fidelman is mixed poorly, fact
>>66458091
>blatant cover ripoff from Lodger
Did James Murphy have a single original idea?
>>66460107
>any dream theater album
I- I always thought Awake was really well mixed.

>>66460934
Actually it just makes it worse because shitty albums like Red and Bon Jovi - New Jersey have mammoth hooks that result in the atrocious songs on them being burned into your brain for days. See, Katy Perry sucks too but she doesn't have much sense of melody so at least the crap she pulls from her butt is forgotten by you within 5 minutes of listening.
Because if I ever hear I Knew You Were Trouble...and believe me when I say, I really don't want to because I'll be hearing it in in my head for the next week.
>>66458091
what makes this poorly mixed? i don't really know that well what mixing even is

>and aaahm heeeauh

>i don't really know that well what mixing even is
Maybe take a look here >>66461002 for good mixing.
One thing that instantly stands out is in "Someone's Calling Me", and you have that loud as fuck synth at 1:17 that reappears throughout the chorus.

In this interview, he says shit like that is done on purpose, which I'm okay with. I actually like it, but it's not very good mixing.

>>66461023
Holy god, I thought Canadian accents were just a stereotype until I heard that album.
JLP sounds like some 8th grade girl's horrible poetry.
>>66461086
I was like that until I heard the Tragically Hip. By the way, this song is actually very well mixed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaeEopDW0V4
>>66461086
At least that's how she naturally talks. It was less charming when Meredith Brooks decided to, ah, sound like Alanis?
>>66461166
>I'm A BITCH
i remember listening to it and thinking, this is shit, but it's well-mixed shit
>>66461186
Yes...
>>66461224
She did sound like Alanis on that song.
>>66460858
Judas Priest only had good mixing on HBFL through Defenders. Everything before and after that sounds quite bad.
I don't know what mixing is
>>66461238
I wasn't disagreeing with you, you know.
>>66461288
I realize that

Pieces of You [Atlantic, 1995]
Worth ignoring while she was merely precious, she demands our brief attention now that she's becoming overvalued as well. With the possible exception of Saint Joan, who at least had some stature, this is the bad folkie joke to end all bad folkie jokes. With her self-righteousness, her self-dramatization, her abiding love for her own voice, her breathy little-girl innocence and breathless baby-doll sexuality, her useless ideas about prejudice and injustice and let us not forget abuse, she may well prove as insufferable as any hollow-bodied guitarist ever to get away with craving the world's adoration. End of story--I hope. C-
>>66461276
Basically it's balancing the sounds of the instruments so that they're all heard appropriately together across all channels
>>66461358
its much more than that you cuck
>>66461345
Oh god, that album is bad. It actually redefines bad. Just the title track alone is the equivalent of scraping your brain with rusty barbed wire. And don't get me started on I'm Sensitive. If you met someone like that IRL, you'd want to punch them in the face.
And you thought JLP sounded like an 8th grade girl's horrible poetry?
What's the difference between mixing and mastering?
>>66461463
I was gonna write it out but these guys do it better than em

It's partially balancing, but also adjusting the treble/bass/pitch of instruments and vocals on the recording. Different eras favored different kinds of mixing such as that slow, syrupy 70s sound or the 80s wind tunnel sound.
Electric Warrior - T. Rex
Camembert Electrique - Gong
Blue Album - Weezer
Remain In Light
Mark ronson
>>66461215
it's not complete shit compositionally, just a bit mediocre
The mixing and engineering though is insane. Strangely, the perfect recording quality aspect of this album is what makes it sound a little stale out of the box to me. It's almost too pristine/clean somehow
>>66458315
I love this album but I'm not sure if I agree
>>66461499
>gearslutz
am i doing it right?
>>66461765
yes? what about it? I learned quite a lot from there and got some good gear.
>>66458069
>>66461166
Yeah but Fiona Apple sounds like a 50 year old chain smoker on Tidal even though she was only 19 when she recorded it, so meh.
>>66461081
can it really be considered bad mixing if it's intentional and done for effect? that synth is the same as the vocals being mixed low on Dance Yrself Clean, at that point it's part of the song not simply bad mixing. i think the album is mixed pretty well in general
Spirit They're Gone
>mfw those fucking drums
>>66461985
Actually she sounds like she'd taken a couple shots of Nyquil.
>>66458069
Neon Golden by The Notwist. Near perfect mixing.
>>66461926
lol
>>66460292
this one is a long and explosive diarrhea of shrill sounds

>>66459841
VU&N
>>66461748
This, definitely. Pretty much anything mixed/produced by Nigel. So many subtle details that are just perfect.
>>66461463
>mixing
making changes to individual tracks in order to make them sound good together. Then this gets exported as a 2 channel stereo file
>mastering
making overall changes to that 2 channel stereo file to make it sound better
To put it as simply as possible.
>>66458069
>>66461926
>hip hop
>mixed well
nice try redditor
>>66462017
I'll just pretend this post is sincere so I can laugh at AnCo fags
We can debate about the songs but this is one of the best mixed albums of all time. The mix of the first track alone blows my mind every time.
>>66458618
Thank George Clinton for "Freaky Styley" being a sonic masterpiece.
Devin Townsend does some incredible stuff.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QNlLqvZPfI8
Best sounding metal drums IMO.
You could also actually hear Jason's bass on this one too.
The most obvious album missing
The vocal are slightly drowned out by the drums and guitar, it's a very comfy listen.
Pulp - Different
don't expect good music though
