Not really when you consider it was suppose to launch a series of films for Twin Peaks, and it also revealed a few new things. You can't just make a film relating to a television series without introducing new people to people to it. If it's just a direct sequel to the television series, you alienate your audience.
Also, that film is my favorite David Lynch film. It's incredibly dark and disturbing, and I prefer the vibe of the film over the television series. I'm not really a bit fan o Mark Frost honestly.

No because it's good

I think he just went overboard with the experimentalism. Just scene after scene of hazy/disturbing events and of Laura Palmer being a coke-snorting whore who's completely mentally unstable. I mean we already knew this from the TV show.

That Dale Cooper going on and on
he says
"shut up Dale , bloody Tibetans, keep going on about it
he's not impressed

I think it's unnecessary if you have read the book "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer" which was written by Lynch's daughter inbetween the 1st and second season. It's even more disturbing and heartbreaking then the movie.
The movie itself is okay. I think it was underrated at first when it came out and citics were calling it the worst movie ever, because it's really not that bad. Ray Wise is great in it and it's still has great direction and music.
Now people act like it's the best Lynch movie which I just don't agree with. Most Lynch movies are weird but never feel like they are being weird for the sake of being weird but I really fely like this movie had some "trippy" scenes just because it needed them. I mean I don't even think it's as good as Wild at Heart.
This is comming from a huge TP and Lynch fan.

>but I really fely like this movie had some "trippy" scenes just because it needed them.
I disagree with this. I think you get this feeling mainly because we never got the explanations that were planned in the next film.

I think it's a essential companion to the show, it gives you more of a insight into what happened to Laura and what happened to Cooper after the show. And I liked how dark it was compared to the show which had a lot of light hearted moments and characters.
