Kinda liking the SCN noiseless pickups, not as bad as I previously assumed. The extra output and lack of hum compared to the previous '69s are a fair trade.

I think I'll give the new N4 noiseless from Fender a try as soon as used sets start to pop, heard they're pretty authentic sounding.

>>
>>66436541
I had trouble doing this and then I scaled back and just decided to play ITOATS (the song) and try to sing and play at the same time, I've practiced for 2 years and still can't, I've never been good at multitasking but i've definitely spent ridiculous amounts of time practicing just being able to sing and play, can't do it.
>>
>>66435828
Seymour Duncan stacks/gfs trucoil/calig noiseless sound better to me. It's a dimple design that pretty much functions the same as a single.

Well, if you're still trying, try playing only on the first beat while singing. Kind of boring but a good place to ramp up from, since you still have to change your hand position while singing. Folk songs are good for this.

Try to slow it down a little, make sure you hit everything clean and on time. You're doing well though, keep it up bro.

>>
>>66437104
Yeah, I might consider those as well. I just heard so many good things about the new N4s and I know a bunch of them is going to pop out for used when folks buy the new Elite strats and swap the pickups right away that I might end up going with them.

Still happy with the SCN but yeah, if I come across some better regarded used noiseless set, I'll give them a try. Not going for the N3, though, since I've heard the difference from the SCNs are very subtle.

Why does everyone here seem to hate the blues so much?
>>
>>66438370
A lot of people have only been exposed to Chicago blues. When they think of blues, they pretty much imagine louder jazz. It's a shame, because barely anyone doesn't like at least a few real blues songs if they hear them.
>>
>>66438370
I don't, I hate blues rock though, worthless genre. Fingerstyle blues is one of the highest achievements of guitar music.
>>
>>66437284
Bass has a really low skill floor, but so does guitar. Guitar makes louder sound so you may feel like you're more skilled, but both can be totally brainless.
>>
>>66438370
Only edgy people hate blues.

And only edgier people despise blues rock, which is what the movie makes fun of. Yeah, the guys in the movie suck but they're essentially making fun of SRV, which was indeed laughed at and booed on his first concerts and today are one of the most iconic blues rock players of history.

There are different kinds of blues. If you want to hear Robert Johnson and Delta Blues for the rest of your life, good for you, but don't hate on people who also enjoy SRV and even John Mayer. Music changes and evolves, just stick to what you like and don't pretend to be superior.

Blues Rock is corny commercial shit.
>>
>>66438576
Because blues is the easiest fucking thing in the world to learn. It's Mary had a little lamb tier in difficulty. The mark of a good musician is being able to move past repetitive tripe, which only a few great blues players manage to do.
>>
>>66438496
get out
>>
>>66438598
I didn't mean to imply blues rock was the only development, it is certainly the most popular.

>Blues Rock is corny commercial shit.
Now that's you objectively being edgy. If you can't realize, the movie also makes fun of the narrowed vision of the old guy (played by Steve Buscemi) who can only appreciate Delta Blues.
>>
Hey guys, what do you think would be a good, moderately (around $500 I guess is by budget) priced bass for getting a nice clicky metal tone? I'm thinking like that kind of Bolt Thrower sound
>>
>>66438606
>Because blues is the easiest fucking thing in the world to learn
Record a vocaroo now starting with a Asus4 for verification with a well played blues, since you know, it's that easy.

Only people who understand absolutely nothing about blues and think that because the main scale is 5 (or 6) notes it must be easy as shit will say that nonsense.

But let's put your concept to proof instead of arguing. Let's hear you playing some great blues right now, you know, since it's that easy.

And since you mentioned Mary Had A Little Lamb, please use this live performance of SRV playing Mary Had A Little Lamb as a ground level for what is good. Throwing you a bone here. You can use the solo starting at 1:58 for reference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6lq0sRon0k

Record some 'easy blues' as good as that right now and I'll forever concede that blues is indeed 'the easiest fucking thing in the world' and that you indeed know what you're talking about instead of being an ignorant moron.

Maybe a little bit edgy, but also factually correct. Blues Rock was never really an artistically sound genre, it was developed to sell black music to white kids.

Which is why you have famous Blooze Rawkers like Eric Clapton making statements like this.

"I used to be into dope, now I'm into racism. It's much heavier, man. Fucking wogs, man. Fucking Saudis taking over London. Bastard wogs. Britain is becoming overcrowded and Enoch will stop it and send them all back. The black wogs and coons and Arabs and fucking Jamaicans and fucking [indecipherable] don't belong here, we don't want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don't want any black wogs and coons living here. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for white people, man. We are a white country. I don't want fucking wogs living next to me with their standards. This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening to us, for fuck's sake? We need to vote for Enoch Powell, he's a great man, speaking truth. Vote for Enoch, he's our man, he's on our side, he'll look after us. I want all of you here to vote for Enoch, support him, he's on our side. Enoch for Prime Minister! Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!"

All while making a career out of playing black music. It's cheap, plastic music. All of it.
>>
>>66438833
Unless you're into some really indie obscure shit, all music is made to sell and by your definition, "not really artistic".

Quit the edgy act, kid. Music is music. All music is art. Drop the 'I listen to artistically superior music' act, it's only barely tolerable out of 14-year olds.

>Unless you're into some really indie obscure shit, all music is made to sell

Very wrong and terrible attitude. The vast majority of music isn't profitable and is done for the love of art. By your logic a painting by Van Gogh has the same artistic Merit as a Mcdonalds advertisement.

Not to say that musicians shouldn't be paid for their art, but there is a big difference in a genuine Artistic expression and one that's only designed to be consumed as a product.

I can do it but I can only do one well. I'll either moan like a retard and play guitar well, or sing well and arrhythmically bang out chords. Forget about it if it's fingerpicked or complicated.

I'm with the other anon. I've played for years and have actively practiced singing/playing for a great deal of time, and am barely even mediocre at it. I made some progress but have not advanced at all past incredibly basic ability. I'm convinced it's something you either have or you don't; I know people who play much less than me who can play and sing intermediate stuff effortlessly.
>>
>>66439765
I dunno, I'm always hesitant to believe many things are like that, "you have it or you don't." Anyways if you watch live performances you will find people really don't play very difficult stuff while singing, and if they do chances are they don't keep up the rhythm perfectly.

Got a 7 string meme-machine with EMGs. I didn't mind the EMGs at first, but now I'm hating them. The best description I could give it is metallic? The cleans are okay, but fairly sterile, not much depth in terms of bass. The leads are the only redeeming quality, but probably the least important. i'm not sure what you're asking. the only shapes i can think of where you can use only one finger and just slam it down to play a chord are Amaj shaped chords and Dmaj7 shaped chords

there are a bunch of chords where you need to use one finger to play multiple strings though, but you're also using other fingers too

Never understood the hate on people having good gear. Guitar gear is cheap compared to tons of hobbies. Engines are massive money sinks compared to guitars.

The engine I'm hunting for locally is about $10,000 alone before I buy anything else, and that's fairly cheap compared to a lot of builds.

I don't mind driving a pos car, and using any $ i have for some gear. Side work is a good way to get cash for gear. But i usually end up spending it on the kids. My hopes are to get them into playing, so they ask santa for gear. I'm sure they'll let me play with it, esp since i took them all those neat places while they're little
>>
>>66444669
yea they're both worth learning

don't just learn it with your index finger though, learn it with your ring finger, because that's the finger you use to hold down multiple strings when you're playing Amaj shaped chords, and E shaped power type of chords

It's an 81-7 on the neck and a 707 on the bridge. The biggest let down is rhythm tones, somehow I failed to mention that in my post. I think I might look at some passives, they've never let me down. Any good sets around for a decent price? I heard plenty about Bare Knuckle pups but the prices on them seem overkill.

Yuck. 707 is like the worst bridge pickup ever- it's substantially "flatter" than the 81, but still does that weird rounded thing and IMO has an absolutely godawful sound because the resonant peak is centered closer to 300Hz. They sound like mud and compete with your drum kit for a frequency band they shouldn't ever be in.

Those fuckers only end up in guitars because OEMs can get them on the cheap. I'd agree with the anon who said to flip the positions, the 81 will do better for rhythm and the neck is where the 707 will do the least damage.

As far as passives, I think it's hard to go wrong with just emailing a few companies and asking what they'd recommend. Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio have a lot of 7 string options, a decent amount of gear demos (if you want heavy rhythm check out Keith Merrow's SD high gain comparison) and they both follow up with prospective buyers pretty well.

I own some Bare Knuckles and they're... okay? Definitely not worth the market rate. Like, you're paying for something hand wound by a dude from Iced Earth with tone recommendations from the bassist from Periphery. They're not some sort of A-Team for metal, they're some goons who sometimes make things people might like more than production models.

Reminder that Sheptone Pickups are being sued by Dimarzio over trademark infringement for selling pickups with double cream bobbins.

Dimarzio's trademark is weak, violates several principles of trademark law and should never have been granted in the first place.

Sheptone has a GoFundMe for legal costs. For the good of the guitar industry, find it and pitch in a little. Dimarzio has used scummy business tactics for years, give them a little payback.

Larry Dimarzio is a cunt who sued a pickup manufacturer for patent infringement, despite the patent existing for two years prior to Dimarzio's, and because the defendant couldn't afford to fly to the US and defend themselves in court Dimarzio was able to file for default judgment and win the patent.

Dimarzio Virtual Vintage pickups are literally stolen technology.

>>66448838

News of the case is only just starting to break in the community. It should pick up as word spreads. It's in the best interests of all pickup manufacturers to contribute, especially Seymour Duncan and Gibson who would make a killing if they could sell double cream pickups.
