It's time to be nice.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, wonder if Jangle's Thrift Tourney ever existed (spooky), listen to Keiji Haino scream, and just let the good times flow.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream (1992)
>post-punk, punk blues, gothic rock

The gothic punk blues aesthetic is wearing /really/ thin. Nothing distinguishes one track from the other, it's just 9 tracks of the same bombastic, gothic punk songs. Luckily, for the first time I actually like Cave's voice. I don't know what it is, but it really does fit the music here. And the music here isn't really that bad, just not my style at all and played out until it's just no longer interesting. I'm still gonna go deeper into Cave's discography, hopefully he changes up his style (he does, right? he gets a lot more singer/songwritery?)

i listened to Canaxis 5 for the first time since like 2 years heres my review lads
The first track, and that got me quite surprised, starts with a sample of Pierre De la Rue's Requiem !!! That sample gets murked in every sense to turn into a buzzing sound clashing with the chants of two female viet farmers. Those two elements will mesh perfectly and turn into a piece full of dissonance, until the Requiem sample comes back in a more energetic sense, getting tormented by Can's bassist. The second track, Canaxis, is heavily influenced by Stockhausen, a pitched gong sound, a little bit of white noise getting interrupted by the whistle of electronic birds, creating a solid and well made composition. Then a really heavy voice, almost guttural, and bizarre metal sounds with primitive tubes start forcing themselves onto the track. the vocals keep on going, for minutes and minutes, slowing time as their broken chant break the calm flow of the song. Then plucked instruments comes in (mby a Koto?), giving the tune a real travel through time back to the Nara period. all of this then proceed to fade away in a static buzz...
Mellow out, the last track, is kinda jazzy, without real purposes or interest, not as good as the rest of the LP. This track still offers a calm and soothing conclusion to this really heavy record.

The Avalanches - Wildflower (2016)
>plunderphonics

A bit of a weird mix between being /far/ too similar to Since I Left You and being just enough different that they've strayed into territory that they don't do all too well. Shockingly enough, I think the features are the best thing here, they're integrated so seamlessly, the only feature that really sticks out and doesn't really mesh is Danny Brown's (with a distinctive voice like that you kinda tend to take over a song). Despite these cool features, the music here is actually pretty lame. They continue the cohesiveness of the tracks that SILY had, and I do love that a lot, but while SILY has some obviously great songwriting and every sample seems to have its own unique purpose in the songs, most of the stuff here just sounds like a shoddily put together sound collage, vocal samples are thrown in with no purpose, the string samples are hokey, I'm just not feeling it. Honestly, the best songs here are the ones that focus the least on the samples, like the Camp Lo-featuring "Because I'm Me" (the best track here by a fucking wide margin), and the insanely pretty "Kaleidoscope Lovers" (proving that The Avalanches would do well as a straight up psych band). But for each one of those songs there are 3 songs that just don't stick with me at all and just feel pointless. Even the big singles that everyone seems to enjoy like "Subways" or "Colours" just meander and meander and seem to build to a climax that just never comes. About as good as I expected a comeback album 16 years in the making to be.

at montie's request i will be posting my review of his album here for the world to see. album can be found here https://nichardixon.bandcamp.com/album/south-to-south-bend-and-5-miles-to-niles

before i post the review lemme just say i recommend you give it a listen, if only because one of our own made it.

6.5+~

love the cover, hate the titles to pretty much everything, including pseudonym. you need to explore your chest voice where you push to the point of it breaking a bit more, you do it on the last track a little and it sounds really good. the last track is way too long, other than that i didn't really feel like this album wasted any of my time, which is very rare. if you've ever read any of my reviews, i usually say everything needs to be shorter and everything drags and i got bored with it quickly, and although this is very simple and airy (yes you did accomplish the summer wind feel you were going for), it's also very warm and emotional at times, just enough so to keep me listening at least. i had to dock points for not using a metronome, and obvious mixing blunders. but that little tilde (if you're fucking seven years old and you've never been on a computer before, ~ is called a tilde) is a note to myself to relisten to the album, because i particularly liked a few of the tracks. i wasn't keeping track of the tracklisting so i can't really tell you which ones i liked, but i think i pointed out at least one for being superior to you in skype. everything else i have to say i've already said to you as i was listening.
>>
>>66429111
I agree with mostly every point here, but I wasn't even that big a fan of the features.

I would pay good money for an EP that sounded like the last track on the album though. The poetry is great and they lock on to a killer groove there. It reminds me of their work from earlier EPs like Electricity.

Apparently they have enough extra material for another album, so here's to hoping the B-sides are better.
>>
The Residents- Not Available

an absolute mindfuck
the instrumentals are very bizarre and tribal blends of mostly piano, synth and woodwinds/horns, set to the bizarre chanting and story which makes literally zero sense to me (can someone help me out there?)
i already enjoyed the residents, and this is another great release from them

8.5

Singlehandedly, I have unearthed a never-before-heard track from Suicide which was intended to go on their self titled LP. It's not very long (0:46) but comes with the signature minimal synths and sexual moans.

"This is so fucking goofy, oh my god. It's almost lovable, but the way that this just exceptionally goofy sounding music is balanced with the extreme wank of its instrumentals is just...baffling, to say the least. It's got a few things that I like, the drumming is exceptional and "The Magician" is honestly a great song, but this is just too goofy and wanky for my tastes. Still /slightly/ enjoyable as a whole."

I can kinda get into it, but it's just far too goofy and wanky for me to like it that much, it's just not my kind of jazz fusion. And I do love me some fusion.

Alright, finished this little rec chart. I found a lot of these to be super enjoyable.

>Linda Ronstadt - Fresnei

Beautiful sounds and solid voice. Love the jazz and Latina vibes on this album. From beginning to end, it's a solid piece.

>Dead - Musical Abortions

Well well well, what and """interesting""" EP. Wasn't too bad noise and some parts were very dynamic and had good drones. Im still pissed about that ear shattering ring halfway through the album. That shit damaged my headphones and my hearing S.M.H

>Negativland - Escape from Noise

Such and interesting piece. There's a lot to discuss about it for sure. I really liked the flow of the album, from dialogues to skits to noise to electronic to acoustic to communism. Great plunder phonics and a lot of hilarious parts throughout the tracks. I've never felt so relaxed yet so anxious at the same time. This is a based album

>Unknown Eskimo DJs - She Be She Strike

What an oddly comfortable listen. I didn't expect much from a bunch of Eskimos, but the whole atmosphere of the recording was a very warm and homely feel. I liked the "You are my Sunshine" cover and all the weird translated versions of other old songs. I had no idea what they were saying, but I wanted to listen anyways, gr8 rec.

Thanks for all the music recs, /boys/!

>The Men - Immaculada
>noise rock

Solid noise rock album with a little garage rock in the mix. I liked how fuzzy the noisy bits were and how much spiteful and distant the front-man sounded. They got a good balance between the noise and rock while more towards the noisy side (which I can get behind). The thing that sticks with me is that I get the vibe that these guys are a must see live and that album format doesn't do these guys justice, maybe its the song writing or maybe its just me.

>Void Omnia - Dying Light
>black metal

Cosmic black metal with teeth. It really caught me off guard on fast and aggressive these guys are. While its Hard-as-Fvck, the music doesn't really send home the whole Space theme and I feel as though its ultimately lost in the heavy guitars and the demonic vocals. Regardless these guys have a good thing going and I wouldn't be surprised if their future releases take more of a notice from the scene.

This album is super energetic and fun while also being relaxing and introspective. I liked how the songs flowed into each other and thought the vocal samples were used really well except for in the song Visualization. A pitch shifted voice telling you to close your eyes and imagine a scene is pretty corny, but i guess if i was super baked it might seem "deep". Got my foot tapping the entire time until it slows down at the end with a really pretty synth outro. green diamond/10

Ricky Eat Acid - Three Love Songs (2014)
>ambient, electronic

I haven't had mixed feelings about a record in such a long time. There are moments, brief, fleeting moments where this album is just stunningly gorgeous. Everything just comes together perfectly. If this album would consist of nothing but these moments, this'd be one of my favorite albums in recent memory. These moments, however, are very few and far between. When Sam Ray isn't breaking my heart with some fuzzy drones, he's boring me with the same chord being droned on 2 synths for way too long or making a clusterfuck kinda like trappy pop song at one point (this is actually kinda cool not gonna lie). Wickedly inconsistent, but I really do love the good parts.

2.0+
>>
>>66434444
LET'S GO FAGGOTS

i gotta check that album out. you've heard Stratosphere, right?
>>
>>66434468
wow if you think that's a clusterfuck, you're gonna hate the source.
but for real tho what were the tracks u liked? i could probably get you an ep that's more a straight version of those moments.
i feel that the appeal of the record is how it slowly transitions from ambient into electronic idm poppy stuff, before finally having the two mend together with the last 3 tracks.
>>
>>66434509
nop. this is my first duster related experience.
i'm semi feeling a 9, but keep in mind my rating system is a lot more open to high scores than most people.

Alastair Galbraith - Mirrorwork (1998)
>singer/songwriter, lo-fi indie, psychedelic folk

This is the kind of music I'd like to make, but I don't think I'd ever be entirely satisfied with the music I'd like to make. On this album, Galbraith basically just throws a bunch of musical ideas to the wall and sees what sticks. When this whirlind of ideas and instruments and ultra lo-fi production (I LOVELOVELOVE the one track where you can very distinctly hear rain pittering on a rooftop during the recording) hits its mark it's really wonderful, the lovely melodies and the varied instrumentation work together so well. When the whirlwind misses its mark it's basically a total fucking mess. The good outweighs the bad, but there's still a lot about this I don't like.

2.5-

>>66434524
the last 3 tracks were probably my favorite. the more straight ambient bits bored me and the poppy stuff was just kinda baffling, but when both of them are combined it's really pretty.

>>66434544
oh my god please listen to Stratosphere, I can't compare it to Hier Kommt but it's fucking amazing. "Gold Dust" is one of my favorite songs of all time. and yeah, I'll check out Neighborhoods soon, I love ambient field recordings stuff. i also think I'll dig slugabed, cellos are awesome.
>>
>Ghostbusters reboot is a massive financial success despite being awful

the cellos are slightly underplayed, and that's one of the main things holding me back from giving it a 5, but it's still a great record.
sadly, the final 3 tracks are pretty unique to that record.
https://rickyeatacid.bandcamp.com/album/sun-over-hills
this is the closest thing he's done to it, but honestly it's not very similar at all. it's like if he set out to make a straight trap/idm album while retaining the beautiful qualities of three love songs. i love it as well, and i think you'll like it a lot more.

That's terrible.

I think the movie wouldn't have been that bad if it wasn't apart of the actual ghost buster series. Those are huge shoes to fill to do a remake of something so famous.

They make some shitty ghost buster reference every 5 minutes, and it makes it even worst. For example

>There's this one part where the ghostbusters are trying to get a cab because there's ghost everywhere
>"hey we need to get to '...' "
>"Sorry, that's too far away for me"
>"Can't you see all these ghosts around? It's an emergency"

Been on /mu/ for like two years and have never bothered to come into these /daily/ threads before. I'm a bit confused though, are these just chart threads with tripfriends instead of anons?

Just downloaded some Melt-Banana, so I'm going to give them a first-time listen.

Also, was expecting a 10 from Bernstein's Rite of Spring, but got a solid 8 instead. And I remember now why I think this is so fucking familiar: it's because we analyzed the opening few dozen measures for an entire week in my intro music theory class last semester. It's clearly a very intricate and masterfully-crafted composition, so maybe further listening might capture my undying love or whatever.

I think the problem for you from now on is that you've maxed out. You can't possibly attention whore any more than faking/threatening suicide. You get only one or two more of these false alarms, max.

>>66437599
I think he's well tired of the daily life, and he doesn't really listen to music much anymore.

>>66437853
I really need to listen to that album

>>66438128
It's just (shit)posting about music by people who listen to music constantly. Also stop being lazy and read the thread. Just ignore the shamepai drama.

filler fest sadly

Try some different recordings too. Though that one is one of the few decent recordings Bernstein has.
Markevitch's '51 recording is fierce, I think it's on rutracker too.

ok pretend for about 5 minutes I have literally no idea how anything online works

if i were to use Slsk, would I run any risk of getting in legal trouble (keep in mind A) I live in the US, which is pretty hardcore about copyrights, and B) I would only download stuff that's not on spotify or youtube, so it'd be mostly the obscure anyways)
>>

>>66438168

I've been lurking, just never in these threads, and have read through this one, but this just seems like a skype chat on a public forum.
Am I wrong on these accusations?

I'm a big believer in the Stravinsky Conducts Stravinsky version, but I need to hear more performances desu
>>
>tfw people pulled off drama crap again
Can everyone please relax

Thanks
>>
>>66438217
probs not, if it's obscure it's likely that the people who released it don't care about making money
>>
>>66438217

You shouldn't get in any trouble as long if you only upload obscure shit nobody cares enough about to file a DMCA on, and you shouldn't get in trouble if you don't download recent Top 40 releases.

If you're really paranoid, get a VPN or something.

And while you're at it please seek help.

you say that like it's easy
(to be fair it probably is if you're not a cheap asshole like me)

Soulseek is p2p so you're 99.9% fine.
I got a warning recently from my university for downloading GoT on their network LOL.

About to listen to Magnog s/t and saw this review on RYM. What is the goal of people who write reviews like this? What are they hoping to accomplish because all it does is make them seem like an asshole whose opinion should be ignored.

There's plenty of free services out there. You'd only need to get a nice one if you were to decide to join one of those fancy private trackers the avant-rymers use to share recordings of cats reenacting the Epic of Gilgamesh.

You really shouldn't worry about getting in trouble with slsk unless you seek out big releases during the first month of release.

I'm not sure what this is even implying, but it seems somewhat insulting.

>>66438217
Just google "six strikes us isps" or something. Basically you legally have to receive six strikes before any legal action can be taken against you.

Will do
