i'd rate it a 9 (on unreasonable 'modern' scale)
which is to say, bretty good.

>>66388797
I definitely thought a lot of SILY was boring when I first heard it. I think that even though SILY was more dancy and beat-y than wildflower I think they have comparable amounts of stuff going on.

in general I think people are exaggerating the drop off between SILY and wildflower in terms of richness and interesting-ness. The albums just have different points of emphasis and one of them has a legendary aura around it while the other one has a legend to live up to

Very good album. It's not SILY but after warming up to it, I'm glad it isn't. The first half was a nice throwback to their debut album but the second half pushed boundaries for them. I'm going to have a lot of great memories to the second half of this record.

I like SILY to some extent, I don't love it, but it's warm, and very creative. However, Wildflower is fantastic. The only thing that I'm not a huge fan of: The fucking "Favorite Things" part on Frankie Sinatra is really annoying and not a great way to close the song IMO.

> Noisy Eater has a breakfast and lunch verse

no dinner?

and I think that this track alone is a pretty good example of what the entire album is like. It doesnt have a climax, a conclusion. Is that the point?
>>
>>66393148
Really? I feel like Stepkids makes a fittingly heartwarming climax and SNIO was the best choice to end the album. And what a better way to kick off the album than Because I'm Me? IMO the sequencing is the best part of Wildflower
>>
this album goes to show that all the time in the world isn't enough to make a great album. they over thought it and it just feels lifeless and stilted like anything else i can find on bandcamp.
subways is fucking tycho-tier shite, the guest vocals are forced and dominate the tracks. i get the impression after SILY they just brought in all these people just because they could, because they weren't nobodies anymore.

overall, very disappointed as I would say SILY is the album i've listened to the most and had great hopes for the follow-up but i can't force myself to like it by relistening over and over until it clicks. avalanches have lost the magic, sad to say.

Croaky dying woman vocals with meh lyrics. The synth's the best part of that track.
>>
>>66397713
Interesting. I understand why some might not like the vocals but I think the lyrics are really well written. It fits the 'childhood innocence' and nostalgic themes that are the foundation of this record.

If I Were A Folkstar is so good I was grinning so hard hearing it for the first time, it reminds me of the housepop tunes that were big when I was little and its feels as though it actually was one of them and I need to check.

But they're such a tease productionwise on that track, they build up the beat as though it's gonna kick in and then they pull it back and this happens like 3 or 4 times
>>
>>66402593
Shut the fuck up.
>>
>tfw you realize the narrative of the album is about a teenage girl's psychedelic summer vacation
>tfw you notice something new every listen through

Wildflower is definitely starting to rank up there with SILY for me
>>
After too many listens:

I appreciate how they breached out from their mythological sound and experimented with modern trends like psychedelia (revival...) and hip hop. Opening themselves to hip hop resulted in incredible, unexpected songs - with the exception of Frankie Sinatra. Still, with some obvious exceptions, most songs feel like beautiful composition which fell asleep... They don't go anywhere, don't develop into anything more exciting than the first 30 seconds. Many of them are too short, feel like snippets and not full tracks. There is way too much "noise" in the form of skits, interludes, and however you call the junk that was pushed between the songs - it blunts the album, makes it lose focus. Overall, I feel like it's nowhere near SILY, but still a worthwhile album - for the good amount of pleasant surprises in it, and for those couple specific moments when The Avalanches manage to recreate the beautiful, touching, groovy sound they became famous for.
>>
>>66407262
Yeah I feel like their albums really require multiple listens to enjoy in full because of how heavily layered the tracks are. You notice new interlocking melodies with every subsequent listen, it's incredible.

>>66407091
IIWAF is massively underrated
>>
>>66402471
agreed. Some are good such as on frankie sinatra "off his rocker, off his rocker," but then it instantly turns into boring "i'm always fucked up" trife. still 8.5/10 album for me right now, but I'm liking it more every day
