Imagine if after The Beatles released Revolver and stopped touring, instead of becoming a "studio band", they just broke up. Would the world be a better or worse place?
>inb4 beatles are shit and should never have released anything
Well certainly a butterfly effect would inevitably and inexplicably take place that can unexpectedly change things with seemingly no correlation. Musically, probably worse seeing how post revolver was the beatles golden age.
depends if you like pop music which most /mu/ core is
beatles are shit and should never have released anything

I kinda think revolver was the start, and that Rubber Soul was the primer.
A worse place musically. Sgt Peppers is probably a more influential record than Revolver and really began the idea that an album could be an art form, as well as also pioneering the concept album, although I do personally think Revolver is a better album (probably the best ever, in fact). It's difficult to imagine no White Album or Abbey Road either, especially with tracks like Helter Skelter arguably being the creation of heavy metal.
Also there's the more simple fact that we would be without some sublime music,
Well first of all, SMiLE might have been finished
There would be knock off bands popping up left and right to take their place, most likely.

Hey, we at least have Smile Sessions, which, in my opinion, is pretty spectacular, if just a bit messy.
God bless you, psychedelic barbershop

Most people I know don't like what came before rubber soul, so at least in my circle, they wouldn't have enough material to be popular.

Sgt. pepper pioneering the album as an art form? In 1967? A year after blonde on blonde? And two after highway 61 revisited? And pioneering the concept album? Again, in 1967, a year after blonde in blonde, and after frank Sinatra and woody Guthrie having already made concept albums. And helter skelter creating heavy metal? Your implying helter skelter did anything innovative 1 year after the release of VU and N and about 5 after the kinks first singles? Sabbath pioneered heavy metal and they had not one thing to do with anything found in helter skelter (or VU or the kinks, but much more blues and jazz)

On the topic of Helter Skelter, it did invent heavy metal. You Really Got Me was just some simplistic chords being hit with some force, it was a step in the direction of heavy metal but definitely not the start of it. It featured barely any characteristics of the genre; the percussion, bass and vocals are nothing like those on a heavy metal record. Helter Skelter was bolder, louder, faster, and featured the screamed vocals and dark themes of heavy metal. VU and N also didn't do the above.

You're both wrong. Blue Cheer invented heavy metal.
