My best friend just passed away from cancer, at 22 years old.

I'm devastated but music is helping a little.

I know this is taboo but could I please get a few recs for music dealing with this subject matter..please and thanks.

So far these have been helping me cope..

City and color - little hell
Sun kil moon - benji
Nick Drake - pink moon
Eels - electro shock blues

Check out Matt Elliott for some sad songs my man. Not exactly about people dying but it's about the feeling it conveys.

Sorry to hear that anon. Carrie and Lowell by Sufjan Stevens is a pretty tender record about dealing with loss. It's helped me out in some rough times and I hope it can do the same for you.

Why bother when there's people like you too myopic to ascertain the difference between grief and despondency.

By your logic I should either be totally dismissive towards the issue because death is natural, either that or I should be upset everyday because people I don't know are dying and grieving too.

I'm heartbroken but my world isn't ending so what's your point in saying that?

Seek wisdom, that attitutde detracts from anything positive and I know it's summer but fuck you really had to type that out.

One behind her spine, one in her heart on her aorta, and one near her ovaries.

She's in a better place yo. I... saw my mom's ghost, and she's fine... so I don't think the dead are unhappy. I know it means nothing. Seems like all the good ones die young. Have you poured out liquor for her? She must have been an amazing person.

fuck these stupid niggers shitposting in this thread
i feel your pain, OP, i really do hope you get through this, i doubt your friend would want to see you suffer for too long, just take your time to mourn and readjust and you'll be ok.

king creosote & jon hopkins - diamond mine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i34ZOaWotrY

the best way to listen to this album is exhausted, crying on your bed with headphones in and you fall asleep during the middle of it

sufjan stevens
romulus - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOuepo6DP4k
flint for the unemployed and underpaid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7IMmsRGRpA
Casimir Pulaski Day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxMYqsvgX8c

romulus and flint are just tender songs but casimir pulaski day is a song from the perspective of someone losing their lover to bone cancer, it's very touching.

the mountain goats - ezekiel 7 and the permanent efficacy of grace https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWMaarpJbig
this is about a man getting tortured to death in a shed in mexico, and the killer driving off into the distance, trying to wipe it from his memory; still makes me stop and listen to it every time, though, it commands attention

First off, I'm so fucking sorry to hear it dude, being no stranger to death I know it's awful. I hope you can get through it.

I'm generally recommending everything I've listened to while dealing with loss, you may not like them but I found them sorta helpful.

Current 93-Sleep has his house
Grandaddy-The Sophtware slump
Mount Eerie-Dawn
Bohren and der club of gore-Geisterfaust
Sibylle Baier-Colour green
Scott Tuma-Hard again
Of the wand and the moon-The lone descent
Red sled choir-Trades EP

I found these kinda helpful in similar situations, I can promise you the same but I wish you all the best, take care of yourself.
>>
>>66379026
Grouper is very dreamy shoegaze, mostly centered around the concept of loss and disassociation.

Listen to dream loss and her most recent release, also Dragging a dead deer up a hill.
>>
>>66383327
I second Scott Tuma's "Hard Again." Life-changing album.
>>
depression has become a buzzword. it started spreading on tumblr and has even managed to influence the normie boards on 4chan. depression is not synonymous with sadness ok champ? If you were actually depressed your serotonin levels would be so low that you would feel the same type of emptiness from silence as you would listening to your favorite song.

sorry for your loss, but it's just death. Death (onto others) is very often out of your control and it happens naturally to anyone at any given time. I would be sad as fuck if my best friend died too but just remember attachment causes suffering. Just realize he's gone and that he'd want you to be happy after his passing. Be indifferent, not emotional
>>
>>66383509
I can't put into words the level of bright emotion and euphoria it contains, it's so bright and simplistic. I always feel like I'm remembering childhood holidays in the outback while listening.
>>
>>66378461

now THIS is melancholic music, just like death. I always chill the fuck out and listen to Piano Nights when I'm feeling sad or lonely
>>
>>66383601
yeah op you're not really depressed just sad
>>
>>66383601
>>66383686
God, guys, you don't know how he feels. Attachment is another way of saying love. Would you have him not love someone unconditionally, even if they're gone? You can't just turn off your feelings, and if it's not "clinical" depression it still hurts. Have some fucking tact guys, OP needs some support.
>>
>>66383686
>Why bother when there's people like you too myopic to ascertain the difference between grief and despondency.

>>66383601

Suppose I shouldn't have made the title depressed, but fuck I'm despondent and downtrodden right now.

Sad doesn't convey how I feel right now, but thanks for your jaded insight.
>>
>>66383755
You can still love without becoming attached to someone/something.
>>
>>66383755
I'm sorry it's just that when you've experienced clinical depression you feel insulted when others use 'depression' so lightly when 'sad' could be used. I have been through family member deaths before but real depression feels 100 times worse than grief

OP's case is special though because it's his best friend and he died so early, so of course he has my condolences and support. Good luck OP. I can recommend Dean Blunt - The Redeemer just because for some reason I've turned to his music when I've felt down, and it's a pretty great album

Thank you, I know I'll be fine in a few days but right now I just want to take a lot of drugs..
