Paul McCartney's pretty much the defining answer. Seems like he was the uncool "sell out" and enemy of the great rebel and icon John Lennon. Then you find who wrote what songs, and you realize Paul McCartney wrote almost all of their best songs. Then you look into how he guided the band's activities, and realize Lennon was a self-absorbed, irresponsible cunt and McCartney was just trying to maintain the quality of his band's work. Then you find out that Lennon was a terrible father and fairly nasty person who was only interested in political posturing and self-aggrandizement, while McCartney has a longterm genuine interest in humanitarian aid. Then you hear the solo material of the fab four and realize that those Lennon records everyone praises are actually weak stabs at hard rock but have dismal songwriting, and that in fact Paul McCartney's Wings were far superior to anything Lennon did solo or with Yoko Ono... and that Lennon's solo stuff is also significantly weaker than that of George Harrison or (for the most part) Ringo Starr. Then you realize McCartney probably shaped psychedelic pop more than anyone else, while Lennon was just a weak wannabe singer/songwriter.

Do you realize who wrote Rain, Tomorrow Never Knows, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I Am the Walrus and Strawberry Fields Forever?

Actual answer is Mike Love, who recognized the true villain was Landy.

When Frankie Sinatra came out most of us probably thought Robbie was going on his own without Darren and fucking the whole thing up. When the album dropped we all realised that he is the genius.

Brian probably would've sat at home muddling over song ideas for his entire life, never releasing anything if it hadn't been for Mike desu

I agree Lennon would be the villain but
>then you find who wrote what songs, and you realize
I realize McCartney was the ''sell out'' anyway, although I wouldn't call him that word or anything. John was better at writing unique songs that were pushing boundaries and Paul was better at writing straight up pop songs with great melodies is the way I see it.
>>66351343
agreed, also Because, Come Together, Across The Universe...

I prefer George Harrison and Brian Wilson over them anyway.

Paul's bass and Ringo's drums are what make Rain so good. George Martin deserves much of the credit for Tomorrow Never Knows, plus Paul was the one who created those weird seagull noises in the first place and played the backwards guitar solo. Strawberry Fields Forever is a bit more difficult- I'd say that's 60% strong songwriting and 40% genius George Martin production. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, I'll give John that.

>>66355163

And I Am the Walrus is another case of good songwriting but even more memorable arrangement/production

john wrote happiness is a warm gun tho
>>
>started a rock band in the early 80s as a teenager
>managed all their recordings and business dealings with the music industry
>continued to drive his band after the death of his friend and bandmate
>almost got kicked out of his own band by an egocentric alcoholic
>made his band grow from a cult following to worldwide fame
>>
>>66351305
While I do love some songs John wrote, I will never forgive him for Revolution 9. It kills the flow of the whole album, only thing keeping it being the best beatles album
>>
>>66355524
he's still a dick and has progressed negatively as a drummer
>>
>>66350502
Explain?

Sleep Cycle is pretty good but I wouldn't say he's a hero yet since he's only come forward with a good album once.

there are a lot of great albums from this year but this is seriously my AOTY so far

Deakin actually pulled it off

>Is widely considered to be the least important member of the band
>leaves, MPP is produced
>comes back, their weakest album is made
>seemingly steals fans' money for a trip to Africa
>eventually gets it together, releases an album that tops Painting With and might even be AOTY

Nah he wasn't involved with Person Pitch and that's the best AnCo.

>>66350520
Nah he didn't fuck with the formula.

>>66350598
Nah he doesn't even know how to drum. The Shaggs had a better drummer.

>>66351305
Nah, Lennon did the cool parts of A Day In Life the best Beatles song. Harrison had the better solo career.

>>66351410
Nah, that boy needs therapy.

>>66351413
Nah, this nigga fat as shit.

>>66352911
Nah, makes pseudo-intellectual "deep" garbage that's even more pretentious than the Waters era stuff.

>>66355524
Nah, he might even be worse than Ringo as a drummer and is the primary point that ruins any real attempt at anyone saying Metallica was the best of the Big 4.
