Easy-listen New Age-y, Progressive Electronic, with some drones in the mix.
Recommend Tonspuren from Moebius as well.
>>66302467
Is tribal/ritual ambient the latest avant-teen meme genre?
>>66302467
>>66302629
It seems so funny that apparently your tastes are esoteric and left-field enough to enable you to have interest in such a genre, and yet not esoteric and left-field enough that you have figured out how to find music by yourself by now.
>>66302639
>how to find music by yourself by now
maaaaybe that's why he posted in the thread?
>>66302659
So someone else could find music for him?
>>66302679
couldn't care less if he'd open the links or not. Coordenated posting might be a good kickoff for some actual music discussion.
I've considered myself a fan of ambient music for at least a little while now, but somehow never checked out pic related until yesterday, as so far as I can remember anyway.
What have I been doing with my life?
>>66302838
As far as monumetal ambient albums, that one has to be one of the best of the last 20 years imo. Try pic related, it definitely shares the same elegance and weave vibe going on like Tired Sounds, but more tinkling and tribal
>>66303198
Thanks for the suggestion!
>>66303342
Glad to help mane
Stars Of The Lid fan boy here. You guys need to check out Maneuvering The Nocturnal Hum, it's a relatively short EP that is subtly beautiful in the way a William Basinski album is.
>>66303198
Robert Rich and Alio Die both have huge discographies. Some Rich stuff has a hippie store at the mall vibe but it's still oddly calming in its cheesy feel.
For the sake of discussion:
What's a really great yet unknown ambient artist you've come across?
>>66302639
What's so bad about asking for recommendations?
>>66303770
hwyl nofio was my latest amazing find. While more in the vein of industrial than ambient music, it does create the perfect setup for some of the best dark ambient I've listened to
The greatest ambient albums of all time:
1. Aloof Proof - Piano Text
2. Brian Eno - Ambient 4
3. Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline
>>66303574
How can I not know about this one? Thought I had all the SotL stuff by now.
>>66304313
Needs more Michael Stearns - Planetary Unfolding really.
>>66304313
Solid list honestly.
>>66303770
solo andata, two australian guys. Their self-titled is fantastic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njzIwGGgAn0
Somebody had a new ambient flowchart they were working on a few weeks back; what is the status of that? I'd like to see what it's looking like now.
>>66305109
I wish there were more like this one.
So any love for Rest You Sleeping Giant? It's great stuff really, especially Frost.
Any other good (small/independent) recs?
>>66302838
I didn't find Stars of the Lid until I had been listening to ambient for a couple years. There are so many great albums and pieces that I keep finding, which I guess keeps things fresh. I found A Young Person's Guide to KBD last semester and just got KBD and the Infinite Sadness the other day. I think "Powers of None" is absolutely fantastic. Speaking of Students of Decay, Already Gone by En is a great drone album that's not actually all that drone sounding. The opening track is quite an experience.
>>66303574
I'll have to pick this up.
>>66303770
There's actually a fair number of ambient and drone artists in the bandcamp that aren't complete shit. >>66305224 I was actually just about to recc this guy. Ethan makes some great music. He now runs Cellar Door Tapes. Their first release 'laura pointless' is seven minutes of awesomeness. There's a number of electronic labels that have ambient releases on them which are solid labels, but I don't know too many labels that specialize in just ambient. Underscore has a couple LPs that are good. Foresteppe makes Russian folk-y ambient music (volny is my favorite). bad sleep's EP i want to be home is really cool. Telepath makes great BoC-esqe music. Haunter is a drone artist from here in Iowa City that puts on absolutely moving performances.
>>66305157
D2 and D3 are switdched /spergtwinge
>>66305390
yeah, noticed that. But those are two of the most well known albums on the list so doesn't matter anyway.
Celer confirmed for best.
>>66305354
I've been interested in this Cellar Door Tapes label myself, although I'm mainly into very droney, minimal ambient. There's some BC artists that caught my attention though, RYSG for one but also Epiglottis, The Ambiguity and Carbon Based Life Forms.
Maybe try and compile a list of good BC ambient sometime?
2016 has been great for ambient
picture attached are my top albums of the year
Max Würden - Transit
Anenon - Petrol
Les Halles - Transient
wacław zimpel - Lines
Huerco S. - For Those Of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have)
Nonkeen - The Gamble
Sarah Davachi - Dominions
Jason van Wyk - Attachment
France Jobin - Singulum
Christian Naujoks - Wave
highly recommend the Max Wurden album. It's on soulseek, so do it
>>66306725
What's the best for late night listening, lad?
>>66306772
the max wurden piece is good because it's got subtle beats to it
for more straight ahead ambient with a bit of glitchy noise, the france jobim is good
for more tonal/drone the sarah davachi is good
help a pleb out
I like the short-lived weird noises of minimalist crap more than longlasting spacey chords
some of those weird little noises are really comfy
can you rec ambient with them?
>>66306930
You may enjoy the work of Jefre Cantu-Ledesma
especially a year with 13 moons because that one was full of quick discrete noise/ambient tracks
>>66305841
Nice! I'm actually The Ambiguity. I really, really appreciate it. Epiglottis is also awesome. Carbon Based Lifeforms are pretty legendary and have been around for a very long time, I wouldn't consider them small time at all.
>>66307232
thanks!
>>66306930
Maybe I'm pushing it but try Jar Moff

thanks
>>66308202
you know how it is, glad to help mane! Check out his short body of work, it's just as neurotic
>>66305841
I'll actually try to get a chart made in the next day or two and post it in the /bc/ and /amb/ threads
bumperino
Nice, the ambient thread is still here, don't see these lasting long too often these days. I'll contribute with my own project, which might be considered shameless self-promotion, and you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that. However, I just hope people like it.

>drone ambient, rhythmless minimal
>>66305224
>>66305354
Frost is amazing, the Peppermint Tea and Coldharvest are amazing too.
>>66309636
Looking forward to it, sounds pretty promising.
Back on topic: been listening to quite a lot of Sleep Research Facility lately, but it seems nothing's recently been released by him. Anyone know if he's still busy?

I still love this album from last year
I consider it one of the rare occurrences of ambient jazz

>>66310391
Hey man, no sweat! I know exactly how these things go, been there myself. We'll get to it whenever you're ready. Besides, we have great stuff so far, so I can wait on it.
I did check out your Sleep release the other day, and it's thoroughly good stuff. Keep it up man.
Why nobody posted when Mr. Harold Budd made it to the 80 years milestone?

Otherwise, I've been digging this: https://2047-entity.bandcamp.com/album/infinite
>>66311242
I didn't know, really. The Pearl is still one of my favourite piano-based ambient albums, really.
>>66311242
love ambient 2. sometimes i can't decide if i like ambient 4 or 2 better desu. 2 has such a warm feeling to it that's just so relaxing.
>>66311348
I find beauty and melancholy in 2, while in 4 i find it more eerie in some manner.
nobody talks about 3 tho'
>>66311246
>Bohren & der Club of Gore.
yes I very much enjoyed that album, will revisit it soon
>Otherwise, I've been digging this: https://2047-entity.bandcamp.com/album/infinite
thanks for this rec, very interesting so far
Anyone have a download for Forndom?
Also, might as well shill my own project
somnen.bandcamp.com
Industrial/dark/noise ambient mostly.
>>66311446
i've really only listened to 3 a few times, but it reall is so different from the other albums. it's more droney in a way but i do enjoy it every time i revisit it.

Literally Silent Hill 1,2,3 osts are better than any other ambient album
nice try stupid cucks
>>66312315
>>66312402
Despite mostly agreeing with what the other anons said, especially Rimworld I noticed has a great soundtrack. Your ridiculous attempt at rebuttal really just invalidated your entry, however.
>people don't like silent hills osts on /mu/ anymore
wtf is happening to this board

>thinks he can be taken seriously
go back to /v/ and /pol/

Been listening to this guy. Found him on Ustream.
https://soundcloud.com/manic-mechanesis/patterns-manic-mechanesis
Don't really know anything about /ambient/, although looking over the thread I've heard and like >>66302838
Basically want recs for someone new to this.
I mainly like jazz, postrock and dreampop/shoegazy stuffs if that helps
>>66317343
try Drawing of Sound by Windy and Carl, it's pretty shoegazey
also check out Brian Eno's stuff (music for airports, etc.) for more standard ambient
Kilimanjaro dark jazz ensemble
