Back here after 5 months of not releasing anything, and I'm really excited to talk to you guys again. This is my new Alternative R&B single called "Stockholm Ting". Tried to bring the late night vibes with this one.

Not the type of music I normally listen to, and it sounds a lot like just "typical EDM" to my naive ears. No qualms or anything though, it's well mixed and sounds professional, it feels like it kinda meanders though. My opinion obviously isn't very valuable anyways w/r/t music production lol
>>66300305
Nice and gritty, the rapping was a bit off putting, idk if it was the flow or just the guy's voice. I feel like you could add some nice little embellishments here and there throughout the instrumental track too, like ad libs or random sounds/riffs. Otherwise it's p sweet, again not the sort of music I normally listen to though lol.
>>66300355
I dig this, I really appreciate how atmospheric it feels, and though I'm normally not really into those super syncopated, breakbeat type drums I found the percussion here really intriguing, almost hypnotic in a way.
>>66300364
Nice and chill, like something I could see playing over anime credits with a sunny beach in the background.
>>66300365
I really like the field recordings in this. The piano or whatever that is sounds really nice and the track overall is really warm and relaxing. The delay effect or whatever that is starts to feel somewhat gimmicky or annoying at times though.

Kick is kinda buried in the drop, sounds like your sub is fucking with the kick. The synths sound a bit cheap imo, you could do much better. The mix is the only genuine bad part about it besides the synths. I hate being so bluntly harsh about it too, but I'd give it like 4-5 months before you get to the point where you'd be material for a big label.

Thanks for the feedback man, I mainly just label it as trap because some of the drum programming is more similar to trap than anything else. Ye i understand that the drums could use variation and im not just copping out my saying this but they're supposed to stay steady like its pulling the rest of the track along, appreciate your thoughts though
>>66301627
You have without a doubt some talent with writing. However, I think you should be experementing with your mixes, and do a bit more of panning imo. Also, have something to fill out the "empty space" in your songs. Like in the one you called "Reunion", a pad, or just a sample maybe rain or something would lift the song a bit, and make sound more complete.
I dunno which vst you use for the strings, but they sound a bit dry and midi. Maybe put a bit more reverb on it!

1. Nobody gets discovered or signed straight off /mu/. You really think big names spend their time on this board? Especially since most people in these threads these days have such fragile feelings that they make insincere meme bullshit music so that they can brush off criticism and say "I don't even take it seriously dude" even though deep inside they'd KILL to have their music recognized, embraced, and taken seriously by others.
2. It is a new era, you're right. Every dipshit with a laptop can record music and put it online. The music marketplace is saturated. There's more fish in the sea than ever before, and too many people delude themselves into thinking low effort shit like simply hanging out on /mu/ will somehow get them noticed and elevate them to the next level. There's a million other people trying to do the exact same thing you are so not only do you have to be able to compete with everyone else in terms of the quality of your music, you also have to compete with other people in terms of how you market yourself.
Hanging out on /mu/ might get you more plays and follows on SC, but every day you spend just posting your shit on /mu/, there's thousands of other musicians making the same style of music you are, many of whom are more cunning, ambitious, and driven than you are. For every person posting on /mu/ there are hundreds of others who are branching out, finding and exploring many different ways to market their music and set themselves apart from the competition that's flooding the marketplace in the Internet Age where most people are simply lazy laptop musicians who post songs on Soundcloud and Bandcamp.
>>66307066

>There's more fish in the sea than ever before, and too many people delude themselves into thinking low effort shit like simply hanging out on /mu/ will somehow get them noticed and elevate them to the next level.
if you're just starting to put music up and have 0 followers then /mu/ is a great catalyst to get a few hundred followers and gain a shred of respectability so youtube and soundcloud promotion pages will actually take you seriously
i don't get many plays from /mu/ i just post here because i like the community and i'm on 4chan anyway, so why not?
i do agree that meme music is annoying though, but we probably have different ideas of what that is.
>there's thousands of other musicians making the same style of music you are, many of whom are more cunning, ambitious, and driven than you are
right but what about posting on /mu/ automatically excludes you from being one of those people?
>For every person posting on /mu/ there are hundreds of others who are branching out, finding and exploring many different ways to market their music and set themselves apart from the competition that's flooding the marketplace in the Internet Age
again you say this as if you posting on /mu/ automatically means that you are not trying to market your music on other platforms, you're not playing shows, you're not sending demos to labels and promo pages etc
you're acting as if posting on /mu/ and trying to promote your music literally anywhere else are mutually exclusive activities

bruh go and fuck yourself
i post in these threads to find new music, and to find new people to collaborate with. if you think linking up with other people in your same circle who may be bigger than you has no positive gain you're dumb and idk what else to say.
>>66309680
I never said it didn't have any positive gain. When someone talks about getting "discovered" on the internet they're not talking about another /mu/tant, they're talking about a big name or label discovering them. I explicitly said in my original statement that posting on /mu/ can totally yield positive gains like more plays and more follows.
>>66306895
>Avant
Whenever somebody puts this shit in their genre descriptions I almost never listen because it makes them sound pretentious as fuck.
I used to listen, but I've spent enough time in these threads that I've basically learned that whenever you see "Avant" in the description it means "This music will most likely be insufferable low effort hipster bullshit from a person who thinks they're some sort of musical Wes Anderson".
I'm just saying dude, I would avoid using that descriptor if I were you. If others label you that way, great, but too many people in these threads try to force the "avant" thing without really even understanding what it means.

It could just be my own expectations. That one piano note you hit and then elongate, I see it going somewhere really emotional and leading the song in different directions. It didn't happen but yes that's my own creative side want I g to do things I would do. It's well put together
>>66311172
It really is difficult to find a genre description that fits the music we play, so we came up with one. There's obviously that pedantry of calling yourself "avant" implied, but other terms like "experimental" wouldn't be that correct. Appreciate the opinion though, maybe we'll call it "really fucked up surf-based music" in these threads from now on
>>66311715

>>66318095
>being this retarded
>>66318122
don't take it so personally. i hate all rap music. but jesus fuck, at least some modern rap has compelling attributes, unlike yours. you clearly don't take your music seriously based on your responses and based on the music itself.
>>66318176
or maybe i like what i make and dont give a fuck what some /mu/tant says because i dont make music for anyone but myself
why would i take an opinion on my rap music from someone who doesnt like rap music? you just disqualified yourself lol

>>66318122
He sounds aight, not good enough to be signed by "the biggest independent label in the word", but i'd fucks wit it
>>66318275
you don't give a fuck yet you're replying insufferably to all my responses. i don't like rap music BECAUSE this is the type of shit that now infests the genre. i like some rap music, not the asinine bullshit you call music. there are no redeeming qualities, im sorry. but keep memeing it up with your responses and attempt to shrug off my criticisms. its really, really bad.
>>66318347
that's fine, music is subjective. the flip side of the coin is that you'll find people like me who think it is utter garbage. that's the beauty of music, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
>>66318359
this actually isnt at all what "infects the genre" (you sound like a basement /mu/tant most definitely) if you knew anything about the genre or followed it even slightly you would know that trap music such as yachty yung thug lil uzi kodak black etc is whats really super popular and blowing up right now
such as
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIHR7rUeGTc
also you havent given any real critsisms, you just said "it has so redeeming qualities" and that doesnt even mean anything bruh. youre just retarded. so thats why im talking to you like youre a retard. because you have supplied all the evidence
why dont you put my weiner where your mouth is and post your own music faggot
>>66318176
Are you really surprised that a "rap musician" has an obnoxious ego and can't handle any criticism? Why do you think it's a genre that most smart people ignore or grow out of?
There are plenty of people who discover a genre late in life and fall in love with it, but Rap is rarely one of them. Because most rap is just really immature and lacks substance , not to say there aren't good entries in the genre, but most contemporary rap is just awful. "Sex, money, and whining about racism". There's only so many ways to explore those themes in the context of any one genre before it gets stale.

you dense motherfucker. i dont care what's "popular". this is exactly what im talking about, you're trying to make music for the masses and it just comes off as vapid and bland. there's no soul behind it, no driving force other than trying to make music that you think will become popular. your responses are almost as embarrassing as your music.
seriously, the music world is so oversaturated by artists that do what you do but better. just stop it.
