As a musician just means technical skill. Outside of keys, did Wilson really have technical proficiency with other instruments? I believed he admitted as much that he didn't, which was in part why he used session musicians.

To be perfectly honest, for most of his life Wilson should be below Lennox and Parker. Being a neglectful drug addict mental case makes it difficult to be a normal human being. At his most lucid however he was a genuinely great person, whose expressed more positivity than either Lennox or Parker.

technical ability doesn't mean anything at all. anyone can gain technical ability with enough time. brian could play piano, bass, and guitar proficiently. he hired session musicians because his music was incredibly complex and needed skilled musicians in order to play the unorthodox instrumentation he had on his later albums.
technically proficiency is never a merit to judge a musician on unless they are specifically a performer (classical, jazz, etc). brian created records
