Both BSSM and Californication are the best teenager summer albums. They are objectively good.
Rest of their discog is pretty 'meh' tho.
The 17 Best tracks from Stadium Arcadium are better than the 17 tracks on Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
I love the band. But they did lose their main songwriter. I love both albums, but BSSM is just so fucking good.

Are RHCP the ultimate guilty pleasure band? I feel like Mother's Milk - By the Way are all perfectly listenable albums, with Californication being the high point. I have no delusions about their actual quality, but I think they're fun for what they are.

Stadium Arcadium was pretty shit apart from like 3 or 4 songs. I think BSSM gets overrated by people trying to like RHCP but not seem mainstream. They're a mainstream rock band, it's ok. You can admit that Californication is their best album

I personally rate Californication as their best, but I think every Frusciante album apart from Stadium is in some order 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th before you can count the others. I just appreciate him a lot more than anyone else ever involved with them

Punks who loved Hendrix and P-Funk way back when, they've decided to cash in on their excellent taste. Problem is, they didn't have the chops to pull it off before and now that they've pushed the guitar up front, they sound even cruder. I'm sure they're nice guys though--even mention "compassion" in the first verse. C+
