Still wondering whether I should buy a jazzmaster and a 7 string carvin or just the carvin and a JCM900 with a cab?

I'm a guitar player in a bluesrock/stoner band consinsting of a drummer, a bass player and me. We dont have a singer yet and my Mates dont want a "singer", because they always bitch around, so they try to force me to play and sing, but I'm not sure, if my voice would even be good enough for this shit, so i recorded a sample of me playing and singing. would be nice if you guys would rate and maybe help me to improve my voice

ma nigga. you sound a bit lethargic and I take it that english isn't your first language. I have a feeling that singing in a slightly higher range would force you to sing better. quite honestly you aren't really singing at all, which is much harder to pull off than actually singing, if that makes sense

Yea, you're right. I'm from germany but german language just isnt created for singing. Its only good for "SIEG HEIL, VERGASST DIE JUDEN". Even for me as a german, german language just sounds awkward when sung.

Hi guys, first time poster on this thread. I own an Ibanez Jetking 2. I'm thinking about customizing adding a bigsby to since I don't own a guitar with a whammy. What do you guys think? How would I go about this?
>>
>>66186847
Yes, it sounds like sprechgesang/slightly off-key to my ears. Lou Reed and Stephen Pastel can do it, but it's hard to deliver. My advice is to sing along to music as much as possible and to push yourself out of your comfort zone. There was a lot of stuff that I had a really hard time singing two years ago that I can now. It's all about practice and using your diaphragm.

Honestly, you pretty much just drill the holes and screw the fucker on. Real easy mod. Just know bigsby trems make changing strings pretty hard. There's some sort of mod or something for them that makes stringing them up a lot less annoying, can't remember what it's called.

You can go from clean to distorted with it if you put the volume pedal before the distortion (just like you would with a volume knob, but easier), and you can do violin like swells on leads. You can also play with the delay if you put the volume pedal after.

bigsby is the best looking trem, and really the easiest option for a retrofit. A locking fender-style trem is also practical, but you do need to route a cavity for the spring. Changing strings is a lot easier on those, and they work about as well as a bigsby, maybe a bit better. IMO it's a good idea to install these as close as you can manage to the bridge.

I wonder if the problems these sometimes have are thanks to the reverse spring action. I think it might pay off to look into if some people prefer certain spring strengths and replace theirs. I'd also think that a spring that won't bunch up at the end is important. I would think the short, thick spring makes getting a smooth action more finicky.

I really don't have a ton of hands on experience but I'd look up any potential problems or improvements that exist.

In total looking to spend around $200-$300 on the amp itself. The guitar is already killing me, I'm relying on the free pickup it comes with.

Power...ah I'm not sure. I remember having a 1x12 Spider III that came in a kit when I was like, 16. So at the least a 1x8 in size, 8-12v probably.

Hey /mu/, so I'm a mediocre to shit tier guitar player and I just joined a 80s metal band. I only have an accoustic right now so I'm looking for a decent electric and I have no idea what to look for.

I've been thinking about getting an Epiphon les paul standard because that's what all the top 10 guitar lists tell me to get. What's /mu/'s opinion on them? Is there a better guitar I can get for under $450?

Alright so AERs are out of reach, but you've still got some decent options at a lower price. The Fishman Loudbox is a very clean sounding amp if you can get your hands on one. So is the Roland AC40 and the Acoustic A40.
Don't worry about speaker size, it doesn't really matter on acoustic amps. You just want to have enough juice to be heard during a gig.

Fender twin reverb.
Thank me later
>>
>>66190139
If you want a Les Paul style guitar, there's plenty of other brands out there. I myself bought a Vintage V100 in 2009 and that one's pretty hot right now. Great stuff for the money, far better than what you get from Epiphone for that amount. Another cool brand is Spear. There's a lot of good knock-off brands out there that will last you a lifetime and make for a great first electric guitar. I sure am glad I got my Vintage V100 as a second after getting an Epiphone as first.
>>
Is it really worth shelling out the big bucks an Axe-Fx or Kemper costs? I see some bands using them who only actually use about 3 different settings on it, essentially meaning it's a really expensive 2 channel amplifier with a couple of pedals in front of it.

Are they really any more reliable than a tube amp?
>>
>>66190416
A Twin's cool for clean electric sounds but he's looking for that hi-fi clean you need on acoustics. Wouldn't get a Twin for that. Also, they start at 700 bucks second hand.
>>
>>66190416
I got a '62 twin reverb from my dad when he passed away, it sounds fucking immaculate. I don't have a guitar so I play my keyboard and double bass into it.
>>
Just pulled the trigger on a 2016 Firebird HP.

I'm pretty happy with the modern trimmings, since I can always remove the auto-tuner. What do you guys think of the 2015/2016 new features?
>>
>>66190428
>Are they really any more reliable than a tube amp
Well any SS amp is arguably more reliable than it's tube counterpart.
>>
>>66190428
All solid state amps are more reliable than tubes dude, haven't you ever used a tube amp? Tubes blow up, overheat in gig situations, and sure you get that sweet sweet tone but I've had tubes blow on me mid-gig.

That's why I permanently switched over to a keyboard amp with a line 6 running through it. Gives me all the tones I want without the hassle.
>>
>>66190428
One of the reasons the AxeFx/Kemper's used so much is because they're extremely light, you can get any sound you want, and hundreds of watts without having to lug around 30 kg. For touring bands this is a big advantage.
>>
>>66190607
Sure, tubeamps ain't the end of the world but solid state stuff can fail in high temperatures as well. Oddly enough I've had more solidstate stuff break on me in rehearsals and gigs than tubeamps. It's all about maintenance, there's no reason a tubeamp can't be more reliable than a solidstate amp.
>>
>>66188478

I dont use the H&K to much anymore, switched to an Orange AD30HTC some yeats ago. those recordings are 2 - 4 years old, and with hindsight, i dont really like the tone and playing style i had back then. The H&K amps sound always sound accaptable, even if your settings are shit. i wish i could travel back in time and fix some of the settings and play some passages better
>>
>>66190974
Cort factory is pretty good, I think they make the Korean Squiers in the same factory.
>>
>>66190685
>solid state stuff can fail in high temperatures as well
Many SS amps never go to high temps. On the other hand, a tube amp is always hot when on and that has an effect over time. If you play loud stuff on a tube amp for several hours, chances are it will sound differently at the end of the playing session. That and tubes do break quite often compared to SS components. So yeah, it's less reliable than a SS amp.
>>
>>66190974

My SG with a bigsby stays perfectly in tune.
I recommend installing it with a vibramate installation plate, incase you come to regret your decision.
Reversing the string peg pole thingy made it stay in tune alot better (also easier to change strings). I play .011 or .012 nyxl or elixir strings, which stay in tune quite well.

most ppl will tell you they are great from my experience but i had one for a few years up until a week ago and i grew to hate it. the pickups suck, uncomfortablr to play, mine had a particulary shitty setup too but i guess that could have been fixed somewhat. if you ant 80s metal get an ibanez with humbuckers. there are two models that ppl always recommend around here but i forgot which ones. also most people around here would say that in your price range (im guessing around 400$ since thats what the epi lp costs new) you should go with used ones instead. i secound the used mim strat with hot rails thing or one of the ibanez models that i forgot the names off, maybe someone can help me...

>>

A Squier Jbass will get you the most bang for your buck
>>
>>66193797
Somewhat. Impedance mismatches can occur in some setups but generally aren't something to worry about. Poorly designed buffers are the main issue. True bypass mostly provides peace of mind - why process a signal when no change to it is needed?

For example, EHX pedals from the 90s are notorious for shitting up your signal. Added noise, rolling off highs, etc. I had to mod the bypass on my bass microsynth after hearing the rumors and A/Bing it myself. It significantly degraded whatever signal it passed, with the effect disengaged.

>>66193966
No boost, usually. A typical buffer consists of two inverting unity gain op amps. The signal will pass through a capacitor to filter out DC and near-DC low frequencies.

qotsa has a very tube-like sound... Convincing tube overdrive pedals tend to be expensive, but there are cheap pedals in the klon/soul food area. A modded blues driver can do it too. I'm not that familiar but I'd say that's your first step. Or just get a multifx with good amp sims and be done.

My entire rack weighs less than one head. I only use one patch in one of my bands, but I have about twenty I use in another. The added flexibility in recording and practice is a huge bonus as well.

Another is that you can backup your patch banks to a USB, fly across the world, borrow an AxeFX (Fractal loans them to artists) and load your patches on.

As for AxeFX and Kemper. They're vastly different and not really aimed at the same market. I'd do a LOT of research before going with either.

>>66190654
My rack with power amp is just under 20kg. I've never had reliability issues with my tube amplifiers, but I'd probably put more faith into MOSFET.

Another advantage people don't talk about a lot is the AxeFX isn't that susceptible to interference. Conditioners are recommended live anyway, but you'll very, very rarely get noise.

True, even a 2C+ without graphic EQ maybe and those are really cool amps but the JP has pretty much everything I could ever want without any compromises (I'm getting one with the FX loop fix). Some of the Mark IIIs are more agressive or perhaps closer to the IIC+ original sound but from what I have heard the JP is amazing.

The 2 graphic EQs are great and the shitclone headphone out would let me practice at 12AM without getting complaints from neighbors. I live in a very quiet neighborhood and people here are bitchy.

It's also lighter and more compact and I'd need to fit it on luggage, the older Marks are heavy as fuck.

I'd never own a Mark without a GEQ. The knobs basically function as a pre-shape EQ and the GEQ is more like the EQ on any other amplifier. It's not really the same as a GEQ in an FX loop.

>Some of the Mark IIIs are more agressive or perhaps closer to the IIC+ original sound
Blue stripe is has an almost identical power amp section to a IIC+, red stripe has an almost identical preamp seciton to a IIC+.

>It's also lighter and more compact and I'd need to fit it on luggage, the older Marks are heavy as fuck.
I can't see it being much lighter. They're 40lbs. A mark III combo is 65lbs. It is smaller, though not by much. About 4 inches shorter from memory. Other dimensions are super close.

Not sure how it is where you are, but a JP-2C head is about three times the price of a used Mark III head here.

Yeah, those 15 extra lbs and extra inches would be a bitch when you are traveling on an airplane though, easily translated to $150+ per trip.
Also the dimensions no matter how small the difference is, are going to complicate me fitting the amp in regular luggage unless I want to pay taxes in local customs or risk it being trashed in cargo. Worked on an airline IT's dept for several years and heard/saw several horror stories.

To be honest I've been thinking this through for days, it's a large expense for me but it's pretty much what I always wanted in a single amp.

I don't think it's quite that much but I know what you mean. There's a reason I favour AxeFX+MOSFET for gigging.

>Also the dimensions no matter how small the difference is, are going to complicate me fitting the amp in regular luggage unless I want to pay taxes in local customs or risk it being trashed in cargo. Worked on an airline IT's dept for several years and heard/saw several horror stories.
I forget the exact dimensions but do they make a rack mount version of the JP-2C? I know some rack mount Mark IIIs exist and they shave a lot of the excess off. From memory they're 3U. Could use a 3U hardcase and you'd have an invincible travel rig.

Another alternative could be a Mesa Studio Pre (IIC+ preamp) or Quad Pre (IIC+ and III preamp--able to run in parallel) and a 1U power amp like a Matrix GT800FX.

Not sure what the Studio pre weighs but a GT800FX is 3.7kg (~8lbs). That combo would fit into a 3U as well and be really light.

>To be honest I've been thinking this through for days, it's a large expense for me but it's pretty much what I always wanted in a single amp.
Sorry if it looks like I'm trying to talk you out of it, absolutely not. The JP-2C looks like a wicked amp on paper (I haven't had the opportunity to play one yet). Just throwing alternative ideas that come to mind out that might be cheaper.
>>
>>66202020
I'm checking out the av15 and it's exactly what I was looking for, thanks anon
>>
>>66202431
I just put a capo at the first fret, put one finger at where the neck meets the body, find the midway point of the neck between the capo and your finger and then use a feeler gauge (0.10) to see what's going on with the truss rod. Better these steps than just winging it and potentially making a mistake I'd regret
>>
>>66192043
Really no reason. It would be so close to the middle of strings it'll sound like shit. Plus you'd have to do some crazy custom routing in the neck for the wires which most likely interfere with truss channel and would have no height adjustability without a cavity
>>
>>66202448
>Sorry if it looks like I'm trying to talk you out of it, absolutely not. The JP-2C looks like a wicked amp on paper (I haven't had the opportunity to play one yet). Just throwing alternative ideas that come to mind out that might be cheaper.
No worries. I appreciate it and know it's genuine advice. I'll post in a future /gg/ the final outcome of this haha.
>>
>>66202520
Also if no feeler, just press string down half way on e string. It should have just slightest of give like a business card. If no give, loosen till you get the gap. If you get too much buzz and your string height is where you want to keep it, loosen by tiny like 1/8th turns till it's gone
>>
>>66202702
To clarify you do this with capo on 1st fret and pressing down last fret where neck meets the body. You can also do it without capo just gotta stretch hand across
>>
>>66197093
sometimes it just sounds better. ive had the same strings on for almost a year and they still sound great. it's all about how they feel desu
>>
>>66202212
What's the problem?
>>66202431
Press down on the first and last fret, your string is perfectly straight, you can see how much give the neck has on the 7th or 8th fret. On my nice guitars or basses with PLEKd frets I can make that give incredibly thin, making the neck almost perfectly straight. Credit card thick is usually what you want when the frets aren't perfect.

upgrades in what sense? you mean mods you can do to that guitar? i got a zero fret on mine. makes open strings not stand out so much sound wise. also i'd put something behind the nut to stop the strings from vibrating there. other than that if you want to improve the tone i'd probably get better pick ups. i mean i havent played a squier jag but most likely it won't have as nice pick ups as an am std and its the best sound improvement per $ spent by far. oh and more importantly get relatively thick strings for that guitar! they have insanely short scale lengh so you gotta pick thicker strings to hold the tone properly. id go with 11's desu, and i usually play 9's on my strat. if you do like thicker strings anyways you can easiely go with 13's or something.

To be fair, I did write it. It blows most out the water once you dial it in right.

>so i take it you like the ignite amps the best?
If I had to recommend any it'd be a mix of Ignite and LePou, but I don't use either myself anymore.

The only one I've actually liked was the Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1 on Pro-Tools. For the most part I don't even bother using them, and I just other plugins to shape the sound.

So what ever happened to that retard that used to spam gear threads with his shitty sears and danelectro guitars and pedals? Does he just make these threads now or did he get bored?

The way this would actually work is that the fretboard would extend over the body, not that the neck would be routed.

>Mastery bridge
No. Please do not buy into that bullshit. Yes, it is a functioning bridge that won't buzz as easily. But that's all it offers, plus it has poor ability to adjust. Get a different replacement if your bridge gives you problems, the mastery is overpriced garbage.
