Oh man I fucking love the live version of life during wartime. Definitely wish i could've been alive to see them back in the early 80s

Yeah it is, the main reason for Divers over HOOM/Ys has to do with cohesiveness. I really value how something feels from start to finish, even though you could argue HOOM has more ideas its two fucking hours, far too long for her style IMO. Ys while great doesn't feel as personal as her other two releases. I think of Ys as more of an abstract painting, not necessarily a true representation of Joanna's personality (which i think is worthy of musical expression). Divers is the middle ground; its got fresh ideas, personality, poetic story type songs similar to Ys. It feels like a perfect blend of what she's done previously as well as new ideas. Also whats really really great is the runtime. I feel the album is not too long or too short, really the perfect length for what she was trying to do. Overall I think its her most focused and clear headed work, Im pretty shit at articulating myself on why I love my favorite albums but fuck it I guess you just gotta try. Whats your take on Joanna?

>>66180767

>>66182169
I mean to be fair each of their first four are 10/10s for me, but I just find myself being able to listen to Loaded more consistently song for song than the others. They're all 10s for different reasons. Loaded is just very soft/pop rock, almost easy listening. Very feel good and melodic. It's why those other 3 are in my top 4 as well, they just always are nice to take walks around campus to.

Plus I don't really use my charts as top 50s in exact order. For instance, do i specifically like Chet Baker's album more than Smile Sessions? Debatable. It's all kind of amorphously thrown together.

Good to see lots of great albums getting love here.

Interesting to see Have You In My Wilderness on so many charts. I wasn't that fussed by it, but maybe I should give it another go.

Thanks, I've some "out there" new age stuff is exactly what I've been digging for the last few months, after rediscovering my love for Jon Hassell who's pretty much my favorite artist at the moment. Would love to find more stuff in line with the Vangelis Katsoulis album there (Example, not the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfJ74-mTzdY)

Thanks for the recs, more or less familiar with most of them but couple unknowns there too. The ECM catalog I have pretty thoroughly scoured through though :), collecting those on vinyl too (somewhere close to 60 now I think?)

david borden's complete storyo f counterpoint is similar but more classical and harder to listen to

in general i would suggest following the west coast classical label cold blue as well really the best for new age minimal stuff

i rec gamelan because at least structurally theres a lot of similarity with these

v nice chart, do you have the titles up somewhere?

Seeing a lot of releases there that could very well be on mine too, like the Frank Wright, Harold Budd, Perotin, David Hykes, Phew... many others in my library already as well :). Thanks for the recs. Masin is obviously excellent, but I find his albums be a bit dull and homogenous to sit through, best listened in two or three distinct sessions.

Very tired at the moment, hard to think of anything to recommend. How about these recordings of Guillaume De Machaut's work? Wouldn't be surprised if you're already very well familiar with that.

>Also, do you have RYM?
Sorry no, could never be bothered with the site and I've tried to "start" using it several times. It's just too arduous and has way too advert much focus "image" rather than the music, I feel. Obviously doesn't apply to every user there, but it does seem to push me more towards that, and I don't like it. Also stopped using last.fm for similar reasons couple years ago.
>>
>>66191954
But I'll keep that in mind, and let you know if I ever end up being active there :)
>>
>>66191976
it's just a way to catalog the music you've listened to

and it's not even as tied to the community as last.fm is

you can use the site only for rating the music you've listened to and ignore the community entirely

I'm well aware how the site works, I've been a member of it for like 6 years, just not an active one at all. The rating of albums is something I exactly have a problem with from a philosophical standpoint because I have too many conflicting standards (not to mention other people's standards) by which to rate an album. The fact that RYM uses cumulative averages for albums I think is also unappealing and I prefer not to contribute to that.
